Chapter 24: Tomorrow

"The day you left this earth, was the day mine did too.

My heart no longer beats the same.
My eyes no longer see the same.
My mind no longer things the same.

While I am physically here,
My soul is with yours.

Bound together in the stars"

"You're going to give yourself a headache". Simon said from beside Anita

Anita was sitting in the row behind Isaac and Boyd in the bus. Her head was leaned against the window and every time the bus hit an uneven piece of concrete, her head ticked against it. She wore dark sunglasses to hide the look of her blood shot eyes and teared up cheeks from the other students and Coach.

"I already have one". Anita's voice croaked.

Simon sighed, looking from Anita and than to Clarice who was sitting on the other side of the bus, same aisle as them . Clarice and Simon shared a worried look.

"Hey, kid". Clarice tried to smile and get her sister to look at her but it was no use. "Why don't you eat a granola bar. I packed it in your bag. I'm starting to get the hang of touching and moving objects". Clarice took a pause. "You know, like Sam in Ghost. Simon has been helping me".

"Simon has a hard time moving objects". Anita muttered.

"Ok." Simon held his finger up. "I'll let that one pass since I know you're hurting".

"You're not helping". Clarice leaned out of her seat, closer to Simon.

"I appreciate what you two are trying to do, but I want to be alone".  Anita whispered.

"Anita".  Clarice sighed.  She didn't want to leave her sister when she knew she was in so much pain.  She wasn't there for her sister majority of her childhood.  Luckily, Simon was there to comfort her after she died.

"Please, just away".  Anita pleaded.  She never wanted to use the 'go away' like Simon taught her on him and her sister.

"You got it, birdie.  Just call if you need to talk".  Simon gave her one last look before looking to Clarice and than the two vanished.

Coach blew his whistle and pointed to two students.  "Two of you, back in your seats".

Anita groaned, moving from her spot on the window, curling herself up on the seat.

"Jared, again, car sick?  Every ti-how do you even get on the bus?  Look at me.  No, don't look at me.  Look at the horizon.  Keep your eyes-keep your eyes on the horizon.".  Coach than looked to the very back of the bus.

"McCall.  Not you too".

"No, Coach.  I'm good".

Coach than looked around the bus before walking further to the back.  "Where-Where's Lockett?"

Isaac put his finger up to tell Coach where and not to bother her but Coach was faster than him.  "Are you kidding me?"  Coach groaned.

"Lockett, are you dying?"  Coach asked, looking at her curled up form.

"Mentally or physically?"  Anita asked, not looking at him.

"I'm not the guidance counselor".  Coach than pointed to her.  "If we crash, I'm not responsible for your death".  And with that he went back to the front.

Meanwhile Scott and Stiles were talking in the very back in a whisper.

"He's listening". Scott looked to Ethan.

"Is he going to do something?" Stiles asked.

"Not in front of this many people".

"Okay, well, what about the two ticking time bombs sitting right near him? And one depressed Anita who could get killed in the process". Stiles gestured real quick.

"No, they won't. Not here". Scott reassured him.

"Okay, well, what if they do? Are you gonna stop 'em?"

"If I have to".

"You never get tired of being so blandly moral. Do you?" Peter asked Scott.

Anita snorted lightly. Peter still had his snarky remarks and she lived for them.

"Not that I disagree with him". Peter than looked to Derek.

"I do". Cora spoke up. "Why do we need this kid?"

"Cora, you're literally a year older than him". Anita raised an eyebrow at her. Cora only waved her friend off.

"This kid helped save your life". Derek gave his sister a look. "And you know we can't just sit back and wait for them to make the first move".

"You can't bear a pack of alphas". Scott looked to Derek.

"That's why we're going over Deucalion. Just him". Cora said to Scott.

"Cut off the head of the snake and the body dies". Boyd chimed in.

"And like Scott says, they're all alphas" Peter spoke up.

"Deucalion's still the leader". Derek looked down with his hands crossed over his chest before looking to Peter.

"Let's hope so". Peter looked to him. "Because you know what happened when Hercules cut off one of the heads of the Hydra?" Peter asked Derek seriously.

"Two more grew back in its place". Anita was quick to answer.

"Makes me proud you listened to my Greek mythology banter". Peter smiled to Anita. Remembering when she was a kid he would teach her about Greek mythology. Mostly because she kept asking him questions.

When their discussion finally came to a conclusion, everyone in their room departed ways. Except for Anita and Derek. They stood in silence for a moment.

"How's Isaac?" Derek asked.

"He's fine. I told him what you did was unacceptable but the reason behind kicking you out".

"You didn't have to apologize for me". Derek looked to her.

"I knew you wouldn't. Plus, women tend to apologize for men's behavior often". Anita smiled slightly, causing Derek to smile as well.

Anita's smile soon faded as she looked to the ground, her arms slowly coming up to hug herself. Derek instantly noticed her change and watched her carefully.

"What's wrong?"

Anita looked to Derek, biting her tongue before finally speaking. "I have a bad feeling about this Derek". Anita told him honestly. Her one arm going to the side while she pointed to her chest with the other.

"I just feel that something is going to go wrong and that it is going to be really bad".

"You have nothing to worry about". Derek tried to reassure her but she was quick to shake her head. Her breathing started to pick up and she felt like she was about to cry.

"No, no. You have to listen to me. Please don't go. Ju-Just call it off". Anita pleaded.

Derek took a few steps closer to her to break the gap.  Anita let out gasp as her lips trembled.  "Just call it off Derek".

Derek pulled her into his chest tightly.  His chin on top of her head, swaying her gently to try and comfort her.  Anita clung onto him like a life preserver.  But in all honesty, Derek was her life preserver.

"I'll be fine.  Everyone else will be just fine". Derek whispered and then kissed the top of her head.

"Let go".  Anita heard Boyd growl. Anita peaked up from her spot, seeing Scott right in front of her seat holding Boyd's wrist. Anita saw the claws out and just put her head back between her arms. If Boyd decided to wolf out, she would just roll off the seat and into the crack between the two seats.

"You got a plan. Tell me your brilliant plan and I'll let go. What are you gonna do? Kill him right here?  And then what are you gonna do after that?"  Scott asked Boyd seriously.

"I don't care".  Boyd growled and went to attack Ethan but Scott pulled him back.  Isaac moved in his seat and then looked to Scott's side.

"I do".  Scott said.

"Whoa, whoa, you're still hurt".  Isaac said, this causing Boyd to look at Scott's bloody patch as well.

"I'm fine.  Give me a chance to figure something out.  Something that doesn't have to end with someone else dying".

Anita heard that, having to bite her lip to make her not start sobbing again.  Boyd looked to Ethan and then to Anita for a moment, nodding.  "Okay".

Ten more minutes went by and Coach was back at yelling and blowing his whistle.

"Jared, I'm warning you. I'm an empathetic vomiter. You throw up, I'm gonna throw up back on you and it will be profoundly disgusting".

"Please don't talk about throwing up. It's not good". Jared groaned.

"I might throw up on you just to make a point, Jared".

"It's not good. It's not good". Jared shook his head.

"Now the rest of you, don't think we're gonna miss this meet because of a slight traffic jam". Coach pointed behind him. A minor tornado warning, Jared. We're gonna make this thing. Nothing is gonna stop us! Stilinski, put your hand down".

Stiles put his hand down. "You know, there's, like, a food exit about a half a mile up. I don't know if we stop and then maybe-"

"We're not gonna stop". Coach clarified.

"Okay, but if we stop-"

"STILINSKI!" Coach shouted and then blew his whistle. "SHUT IT, seriously! It's a little bus. Stop asking me questions!" Coach flipped out.

Soon enough Stiles got out of his seat and walked up to Coach already annoyed. "Coach, it's five minutes for a bathroom break. Okay? We've been on this thing for like three hours-"

Coach blew his whistle quickly.

"It's 60 miles to the next rest stop-". Stiles continued a bit louder.

Coach blew his whistle again.

"Being cooped up for hours is not good-"

And again.

Anita groaned at the noise as her head was already hurting. She moved her hands over her ears trying to cancel out the noise.

"You know our bladders aren't exactly-"

Whistle.

"Coach-"

Whistle.

"Can you-"

The whistle kept going whenever Stiles tried to talk now.

"Please-Let me talk! I'm-"

Coach blew it again and then laughed.

"Every time-"

Coach blew it longer, making Stiles even more irritated. He even looked like he was about to murder Coach.

"GET BACK TO YOUR SEAT, STILINSKI!"

"OKAY!"

"And Jared, keep your eyes on the horizon".

"Hey, Jared. How you doing?"

~~~
"Jared, you suck! Hey, someone grab some towels or a mop. Or a new bus" Coach yelled out one of the windows, spraying Febreze and students begun to race out of the bus.
"Anita, let's go". Isaac gagged as he stood in front of Anita's curled up figure.
"No". She moaned but when she got a wave of the sent, she perked up.
"I'm coming". She instantly changed her mind, trudging after Isaac off the bus. Once they were off she stood between Isaac and Boyd with the other students. She thought she was fine, but she was wrong.
"I need to use the bathroom". She told them quickly as she felt tears start to blur her vision.
Anita immediately headed to the bathroom, entering the Woman's door. Isaac watched her go, hearing a sob erupt from her when she was halfway there. Isaac turned to look at Ethan who was standing in the distance, instantly glaring at him.
Anita walked to one of the sinks and turned on the water.  Taking the sunglasses off and putting them on her head she splashed some cold water on her face. She felt her body start to shake and then a few more cries escaped her lips.
She was tired. So, so tired.
"Why does everyone die on me?" Anita asked out loud through sobs. She let out a few more cries, slowly gaining her composure.
"Anita?"
Anita turned around at the new voice, seeing it was Charlie.
"Hey". She was quick to wipe her face. "This is the girls room, you know".
"I saw you rush in here.  Wanted to make sure you were alright".
"Been better".  She told him truthfully.
"You want to talk?" Charlie asked, taking a couple steps closer to her.
"If I do, I'll probably start crying again". She let out a force laugh. "I just can't stop crying". She whispered the last part.
"That's ok...I know you better than anyone, I won't mind".
Anita didn't say anything at that.  He didn't know her better than anyone.  Derek did.  But now he's gone.  Hell, Simon knew her but Derek understood her more.
"Ummm".  Anita started.  "Someone that I loved really much just died.  Like, last night".  Anita finally said.
"Oh, Anita.  I'm really sorry".
Anita just shook her head.  "Don't be...you didn't kill him".  She muttered the last part.
"Do you mind going? I just want to be alone". She asked.
"Of course. I'll uh-"
"I'll call you or see you at school when I feel better". She interrupted him. This made Charlie smile.
"Alright. Bye darl-bye". And with that he left the bathroom.
Anita's alone time didn't last very long as she heard yelling from outside and hurried out.  A crowd formed and when she got closer she heard punches being thrown and Coach yelling.
"-ISAAC, ISAAC!  BACK OFF!  STOP!"
"ISAAC!"  Scott pushed through the crowd.  This making Isaac immediately stop.  Students whispered amongst themselves as Danny went over and helped Ethan.
Anita paced around the loft in a careful footstep pace. She quietly repeated the numbers to herself out loud with each footstep she did.
"1...2...3...4...5...6"
And then she would turn around and repeat.
The sound of the loft door opened, making her stop and look up. Isaac was the first to enter and followed behind were Boyd, Cora, and then Peter.
Anita saw the look on Isaac's face as he made his way towards her but she only nodded her head. "You're okay?" She asked him and he nodded.
"I'm okay".
Anita than looked to the rest and nodded with a smile. "Everyone's okay". She claimed.
"Anita". Isaac started softly but she only nodded her head. It was like it was stuck.
"Everyone's okay, Isaac". She was a bit more firm.
"Derek is gone". Isaac finally got it out and Anita's nodding turned to shakes.
"No". Anita shook her head, backing up from Isaac as he was the closet.
"I'm sorry". Isaac's voice broke as he lost his alpha but seeing his friend in this state scared him.
"I told him-I said". Anita's breathing became rigged and she just took slow steps back to the window. "I-". She felt like her legs turned into jelly but before she could drop to her knees, the least expected person grabbed her and pulled her into his arms.
Peter.
"He's gone". Anita sobbed, grabbing onto Peter's shirt tightly.
"He's gone, kiddo". Peter frowned.
Out of everyone in this room, Peter knew the pain Anita was going through. No one was there to hold him, to comfort him. Let him know everything would be alright in the end after Clarice died.
But, Peter did not want that same fate for Anita.
Anita gripped onto Peter even tighter and he too almost started to cry.  Not only due to his nephew being dead, not only due to how he felt, but also because he knew how much Derek meant to Anita.  But Peter did not cry.  He wasted all of his tears the day Clarice died.
**Anita is not over reacting.  I'd be crying this much too**
