Chapter 8 Natalie Speaks One Last Time

Time skip brought to you by Adrienette's love!

This part takes place two days later.

Natalie's POV:

She wakes up to see bright lights shining on her face. Where am I?

She feels around me and realizes she is in a hospital bed. The sheets are rather dull, and she has on a robe.

She sees a man beside the bed holding onto her hand.  It is Mr. Agreste. She can see that he looks sad.

How long have I been here?

She sees a jug of ice water beside the bed and feels a needle in her hand.

Ouch the pain, it hurts to move.  Will someone, anyone please make it stop?

She sighs.  She never meant for him to find out like this.

She was supposed to tell him herself.

She supposes this means the cancer has gotten worse.

She looks under the robe. There is a scar where she had her left breast used to be.  She sees that the right one is there but it looks all swollen and has turned an awful shade of black, blue, and purple. It hurts. Oh, it hurts.

"Gabriel, I need to tell you something," She says.

I see him look at me. I can tell he is surprised.

"Natalie you are awake," Gabriel says.

"yes, I am awake, but I am in so much pain,"  She tells him.

"I know you are and I am sorry. Sorry, I did not tell you sooner, but I love you. Oh, I love you so much it hurts," Gabriel confesses.

"Now what did you want to tell me?" He asks.

"I have loved you since we first met, but you were always interested in Emilie. You married her, and I tried to be happy for you. She was my best friend, but so were you." She tells him.

"Go on," Gabriel encourages her to say more.

"Gabriel, I would have told you sooner.  I  thought you did not love me. I am sorry. Also, when I left town I did see my sister, but I also saw a doctor about the cancer.  I  had treatments for it, but they did not help.  I returned because I heard from Adrien, and Marinette that you were not taking care of yourself." She explains.

"Shame on you for making them worry," She remarks.

"Gabriel make sure to see to it that my sister gets her fair share as explained in the will, the rest I leave to you, and a small portion goes to Adrien. His part I left in a trust fund for him. I have told him. He can get the money out should he need it for anything."  She tells him.

"Natalie do not speak as if you are dying. I won't allow it you hear me?" Gabriel says.

"Gabriel, you have to be reasonable about this, I was told I had six months to live, but it seems God had other plans. I am going to him, and you need not fret. Now, you take care of yourself, because your grandchildren will need their grandfather,"  She remarks.

Gabriel thinks, grandchildren, what grandchildren? Surely, Adrien and Marinette would have said something, wouldn't they?  He nods his head.

"Natalie I will tell them," Gabriel says.

"Good now promise not to let your health deteriorate after I am gone," She pleads with him as she gasps for air.

"I promise you, Natalie. I promise," Gabriel says.

Gabriel kisses her lips. Natalie returns the kiss as a tear falls.

Natalie collapses back on the bed. This time the machine beeps as it shows that her heart gave out. It is over. The cancer has taken her from him.

Gabriel sobs as the worst of it settles in. She is gone, his beloved Natalie is gone for good.  He calls the nurse to let her know.

The nurse arrives and covers Miss Sanceour with the sheet. "I am sorry, Mr. Gabriel Agreste," The nurse says as she exits the room.

The doctor comes in, examines the body, and jots something in the chart.

He tells Gabriel it is time to leave. Mr. Agreste does as the doctor says. He joins Adrienette in the waiting room. One look at his face and the two know. They do not even have to ask, Natalie is dead.

   Gabriel's  POV:

Natalie said, "Promise me to take care of yourself for your grandchildren." Right before she died.

"What did she mean?  Have anything to share with me you two?" Gabriel asks.

"Well, Grandpa, since the news is out of the bag, yes," Adrien says.

"I am having a boy," Marinette adds.

    "Is there a name?"

"Yes, he will be Hugo, Hugo J. Agreste," Marinette says.

      "A fine name, "Gabriel remarks.

He hugs Adrien, then Marinette. In spite of his grief, he smiles, he is going to be a grandpa, wow.
