Lockdown
Kristen, Lindsey's wife didn't want Lindsey to go since they really shouldn't go out. Plus, she was just as angry of Stevie's actions of getting her husband fired. She couldn't understand why he wanted to see Stevie.
But Lindsey assured her that he wouldn't be gone long. So, reluctantly, Kristen told him to hurry home soon. She didn't want to be alone too long especially with the situation at hand.
Lindsey grabbed his car keys, kissed Kristen on her lips then walked out the door.
He got into his car and was soon driving towards Stevie's condo. As he drove, he wasn't sure how he was feeling. He was still very much angry, but also, he couldn't help but still have love for Stevie. The feeling became prominent when he heard her voice over the phone.
Stevie stirred when she heard a knock on the door and Sulamith's barking. She rubs her eyes and sits up slowly. She curses herself for falling asleep on the sofa because now her body aches from the positive she fell asleep in.
Stevie stands up, stretches and wonders who's at the door. She wasn't expecting anyone. She sighs then walks over to the door. She peeks through the peephole and she gasps when she sees that Lindsey is standing on the other side of the door.
She takes a step back and gulps. She didn't know what to do. Just seeing him through the peephole made her heart ache.
She didn't realize how much she missed Lindsey until this moment. Tears appeared in her eyes but she quickly willed them away.
Lindsey knocked again, this time louder.
Stevie takes a deep breath then let's it out.
Should open the door? Or should I make it seem I just didn't hear the door. She thinks to herself.
"I know you're in there Stevie." Lindsey said through the door.
Stevie closed her eyes and says under her breath. "Here goes nothing."
Stevie opened her eyes and opens the door. She and Lindsey lock eyes. Lindsey's stare intense making Stevie look down.
"Aren't you going to let me in?" He said in a harsh voice.
"Uh, yes, come in." Stevie said.
Lindsey walks into the condo and turns to Stevie who had just closed the door.
Stevie walks close to him but still keeping a good distance between them.
"What are you doing here?" Stevie asked, her voice sounding guarded.
"To be honest...I have no idea." Lindsey replied while crossing his arms. "I shouldn't be out right now but, I decided to come see you and give you a chance to tell the truth about why I was fired!"
Stevie looked down again and she chewed the bottom of her lip.
"Lindsey...I wish I could take it back." She said sadly.
Lindsey laughed humorlessly. "Take it back. Ha! Well, you can't." He sighed. "Stevie, what the hell happened? I thought things were going great between us? What changed?"
Stevie looked up at Lindsey and said. "I...I just got tired of, of being in the same room as you. There are things you did that really hurt me. Then, there is the fact that when we try and tell you something about, well, anything, you don't want to hear it. It always has to be your way."
Lindsey stared at her with wide eyes. "Wow...so you're not even going try to tell me the truth? You're just going to spew these lies you and Mick told to the media!" He said as he ended with his voice raised.
Stevie had every intention of telling him the truth. But now that he was in front of her, she quickly grew scared and decided against it.
"Look, I just wanted to make sure you were okay. I heard about your heart attack and I....I just couldn't imagine a world that didn't have you in it. I'm glad you're okay." Stevie said. "Then this situation we're currently in is so scary and I just...I needed to, to hear your voice."
"You're right, things are very scary right now." Lindsey said as he let his arms down. "Look, I have to get back to my family."
Stevie's heart gave a squeeze. She had wished for so long that she and Lindsey could have had that family together.
"Of course." She said sadly.
"Stevie, I...never mind." Lindsey said shaking his head.
Lindsey wanted to say more but seeing Stevie in person just made his heart break and his anger seemed to double.
"I'll see myself out." He said as he walked towards the door.
"Lindsey, wait!" Stevie said urgently.
"No, Stevie. I have to go. It's apparent you're not going to tell me what I want to hear. So, I have no business here anymore. Goodbye, Stevie."
Stevie tears began again and when Lindsey opened the door, she looked down. Sulamith whining to be picked up. Sensing that Stevie needed comfort. Stevie picked up her dog and held her close.
"I'm sorry sir, but you cannot leave your condo." Stevie heard a male voice say.
"This isn't my condo." Lindsey replied simply.
She looked up and went over to see what was going on. When she saw who was at the door, she grew concerned and worried. Also, a bit scared.
There was a man dressed from head to toe in a white medical suit, a mask and face shield over his face. He also had on gloves and held some papers in his hands.
"What's going on?" Stevie asked as she stepped forward.
"This building is going into lockdown." The man said. "That means no going in or out of the building."
"Why?" Lindsey asked.
"One of the other tenants in the building has tested positive for the virus." He said.
Stevie gasped and Lindsey was freaking out.
"Look, I don't live here and need to get back home to my wife and kids." Lindsey told the man.
"I'm sorry sir, but you can't leave." The man said calmly. "This building will be on lockdown for the next fourteen days. This paper..." he handed out a paper that held phone numbers for various businesses. "...holds a list of numbers so you can keep in touch with management and also, delivery services that can bring you whatever you may need. Also, if any of you show symptoms of the virus, call this number at the bottom and you will be able to get tested. Now, please, go back into your condo and lock up. Have a good day."
