Chapter14
I was shocked when she told me her horrorstory. . . .
Jannat and her friends had mercilessly teased Tunisha .
So, she started hiding out in thebathroom to avoid them. . . .
Jannat went out of her way to make Tunisha's life absolutelymiserable, and Tunisha became a social outcast without a singlefriend. . . .
Tunisha said she felt invisible because it seemed like all thestudents at ISD ignored her. So every day at lunch she sat all alone.. . .
But suddenly Tunisha and I were RUDELY interrupted!
By JANNAT !!
"Sorry, girls! But I need to take some selfies for my weekly fashionblog of the new makeup brand I'm wearing. The spot you're sitting inhas the most flattering light in the entire school. SO GET LOST!" sheexclaimed as she shoved us out of the way.
Tunisha and I stood in front of the fountain, glaring at that girl.Jannat stepped on top of our bench like it was a stage, took severalphotos of herself, and then frowned."Darn it! The sunlight is right over the fountain!" she complained asshe climbed up on its ledge.
"Now get out of my photo!""I have a better idea!" Tunisha scoffed. "Why don't you go CHOKEon your cell phone!""Don't hate me because I'm beautiful!" Jannat sneered as sheteetered on the edge of the fountain in her heels, striking variousposes.
Tunisha and I exchanged glances. I think we both had the samewicked wish.Suddenly Jannat's foot slipped and she lost her balance.
"WHOA!!"she gasped loudly. Tunisha and I just stared in disbelief as she wobbled back andforth and back and forth in slow motion, wildly flapping her arms likeshe was a baby bird trying to fly for the first time.
Just as Jannat was about to topple into the fountain, she grabbed Tunisha's right arm in an attempt to regain her balance. Whichworked for only about two seconds.
Because Jannat then knocked Tunisha off balance, and the two of them teetered over the edge ofthe fountain together.
That's when I vaulted onto the ledge and grabbed Tunisha's leftarm and pulled her in the opposite direction like she was the rope in agame of tug-of-war.
Now all THREE of us were teetering back and forth over the edge ofthe fountain like some kind of weird circus act, trying not to fall in....
