Chapter 24

Third person pov

The villains weren't attacking, and it dawned on Lillian why.

"Th-They don't know our quirks." She realized aloud. "They sent Tsu to the shipwreck zone."

Izuku's eyes widened. "That's right. I think... I think they're afraid to attack us! With such careful planning, it really sticks out that... well, they sent you here, Asui--" He froze, his cheeks going red, and his eyes going wide with panic. "Oh, uh- whoops, I meant Tsu! Yeah, they warped you to the shipwreck zone."

"That kind of fell apart on you, didn't it?" Tsu blinked at the shaking boy, and Lillian deadpanned. She really wished she didn't relate as much as she did right now.

"I-It's easier to pick us off one by one, right?" Lillian bit her lip nervously.

"That must be why they separated us. They have absolutely no idea what we're capable of. That must be why none of them are trying to climb in the boat. But... that also means they won't underestimate us, either." Izuku agreed thoughtfully. He turned to the two girls, one of which was nervously shifting her weight from foot from foot, while the other seemed completely collected. "They're playing it safe. For now."

"Right, so let's talk quirks." Tsuyu said, and that's just what they did. The girl's quirk was pretty self explanatory. She was essentially a human frog, with a long, flexible tongue, the ability to jump several feet in the air, and she could cling to the sides of things. Not to mention her saliva contained a mild toxin. She was a good swimmer and could move fast in the water, and stay under pretty long without needing air.

Izuku went next. He explained his strength-enhancement quirk. The price was a steep one to pay, but Lillian knew his power would be coming in useful, even if he would be pretty much out of commission if he tried to do a full punch.

Lillian went last, explaining her quirk with as much detail as she could manage. She explained that it could freeze people, but that you could still move anything that was still. She'd learned this when she froze her pillow mid-air. She could still pull it down, but she could also place it various places in the air and it would just... sit. She included the drawbacks, including the most recent ones she'd learned of.

And with that, a giant water claw rose up and sliced the ship in half.

Fun.

"I'm starting to get bored! Let's get this show on the road!" The villain boomed impatiently as the ship began to go down. Lillian felt herself begin to panic as the villains all swarmed to the side they were on, preparing for attack. Wow, just, fuck. Really, that word was all to fitting for this situation. They-

She paused.

They were all swarming. To one side of the boat. She had a height advantage...

Lillian threw herself against the railing, ignoring the calls of Izuku and Tsu behind her. She processed the image before her before activating her quirk, and with a simple blink, they were all frozen. Lillian immediately felt the action wind her and begin to chip away at her energy reserves, and at the adrenaline she had flowing in her veins. Honestly, she was pretty sure the stuff had taken the place of her blood at this point.

"You froze them all?!" Izuku all but shrieked.

"No time! Let's just go!" Tsu exclaimed, and Izuku immediately went and... jumped off the side of the boat. While screaming 'Die' of all things, which made Lillian and Tsu both pause as he leapt into the air. Lillian thought vaguely back to Izuku's fight with Bakugo. Was the green-haired boy mimicking his friend?

Lillian felt her control nearly falter as Izuku screamed 'Delaware Smash' and created a giant whirlpool. The water had been frozen, but Lillian supposed this meant it could still be disturbed afterwards, but only by an outside force? Or had she lost control over the liquid and retained the ability to hold the bodies? It was completely possible Izuku's blow had been why she felt a falter in her concentration... had he disrupted a part of her quirk?

"Tsu, Lillian, now!" Izuku called. Lillian grabbed onto Tsu, and the girl did the same back, and soon they were flying through the air. Tsuyu's tongue shot out to grab Midoriya before he could join the villains in the cyclone he'd created.

"If a strong force is applied to water's surface, the water will be pushed away, and then coming rushing right back to the middle!" Izuku exclaimed, a certain sort of look twisted onto his face. He was sweating, and maybe a little mad. Lillian focused on holding the villains long enough for them to go under. Hopefully, she could keep them down there long enough that...

They all waded to shore. A lot of the villains sunk due to their gear and the fact that their bodies were frozen. Lillian wanted to see if the water was causing their limbs to move about or not, but she didn't risk looking back. Instead she forced herself to stay bug-eyed and bushy-tailed despite the exhaustion creeping up her spine and soaking into her bones.

Instead of second guessing what we already did, shouldn't we think about our next move?" Tsuyu asked, stopping Midoriya in the middle of his panicked, mumbling rant. He froze, taking a deep breath. Lillian did the same in suit. Honestly, she needed to. After what just happened... if you'd told her a few weeks ago she'd be doing this without crying, she would have laughed. A lot.

"Yeah, you're totally right. Ah--" He winced.

"Are you alright?" Lillian asked, frowning. Izuku was quick to hide his hand from their view.

"Yeah, totally. Don't worry about me. We should make finding help our top priority. If we follow the short to the exit, then we can avoid the central plaza entirely." Izuku said. Lillian jolted. That's right... Mr. Aizawa and Thirteen had been left with the villains. Where were the rest of their classmates? Lillian had to assume they were still in the building, and simply scattered about.

"Good call." Tsuyu noted. "That way we don't run into the villains Mr. Aizawa's facing off with there."

They looked off to the distance. They could hear shouts and fighting, along with people being literally whipped into the air by his capture weapon. Lillian blanched. Had he been fighting nonstop this entire time? That wasn't a good thing. Lillian knew he was a pro, but he was also human. He could get overwhelmed and... he could get killed.

"I-If he doesn't get some backup soon, he's going to get too exhausted. They'll... They'll overwhelm him." Lillian frowned. "H-He'll end up defeated by those villains because he was trying to keep us safe!"

"You're right... and I'm not saying we should just jump into the middle of a battle, but... maybe we can find a way to take a few of those guys out and lighten his load." Izuku suggested, eyes veering off and back towards where their teacher was tirelessly chipping away at the villainous hoard.

"I-I could try to freeze a few on the edges and we could drag them back. I-Incapacitate them." Lillian suggested meekly. By the time they got there, she'd be tired from still holding the people in the water, but she was sure water had completely filled their lungs by now. Even so, they'd been jostled around. Those injuries would be hitting them full force when they struck consciousness.

They waded around, as close to the plaza as they could get. "We get out the second it seems too dangerous; I promise." Izuku assured quietly, tentatively peeking his head over the edge. Lillian hesitated, but followed in suit, followed by Tsu. The man covered in hands was still here, as was that odd beaked creature with the exposed brain. They seemed... incredibly dangerous in comparison to everyone else. She didn't know why, but they did.

They watched the man covered in hands rush at him, and Aizawa rushed back, kicking him in the gut. Lillian paled when the blue-haired man latched onto Aizawa's elbow. At first it seemed alright, but her relief quickly shifted to something more urgent when she realized what was about to happen. She felt her panic swell when he tightened his grip, and she almost cried out when Aizawa's hair dropped.

His quirk was deactivated. That meant the villain's, whatever it was, wasn't.

"It was hard to see when you were jumping around, but I've found your tell. It's your hair." The villain's voice was raspy and dry, and completely fear-striking. She saw her teacher freeze. "When it drops, it means you've stopped using your Quirk. You're having to blink more often. Don't push yourself too hard, now. You might just fall apart."

Lillian watched in horror as her sensei's elbow began to crack like glass, chipping away to expose the muscle that sat underneath. Their sensei didn't cry out, but you could tell it was painful just from looking at it. His elbow was destroyed, and the skin around it was still cracked. Lillian felt bile rise in her throat, and Izuku gasped as Aizawa jumped back, trying to create as much distance between himself and the villain as possible.

"That annoying quirk of yours isn't suited for draw-out fights against big groups, is it?" The man who'd ruined their teacher's elbow mused as Aizawa struggled to dodge the remaining enemies. "Don't you think you're a little out of the element here, Eraserhead? You're much better at working stealthily. You're known for surprise attacks, not fighting head-to-head."

Lillian felt her own heart rate slow, and her control on the villain's back by the sunken boat dropped completely. Exhaustion hit her hard, but she didn't waver, gazing with wide eyes as their teacher as the blue-haired villain pointed out his disadvantages. "But you didn't hesitate to jump in the middle of this fight to put your student's at ease, did you?" He grinned beneath the hand situated on his face.

Fuck.

"And look at you, you're still standing! You really are so cool!" The villain exclaimed. He then paused. "Oh, by the way, hero. I am not the final boss."

Lillian's face paled as the beaked creature with the exposed brain and razor sharp teeth suddenly seemed to appear behind their teacher with speed nobody could quite comprehend. "No, Mr. Aizawa..." Izuku whispered, horrified as the beast reached out and grabbed their teacher around his middle, slamming him into the ground with a bang and a splatter of blood. He grabbed his uninjured arm and yanked back, twisting with a sickening crack. Lillian didn't doubt The arm was not only dislocated, but most definitely broken too.

Blood began to pool on the cement, and Lillian's heart stopped. No.

"What do you think of him, Eraserhead? Hm... he's the bioengineered, anti-Symbol of Peace. But you can call him 'Nomu.'" The man covered in hands grinned widely, and the Nomu let out an inhuman shriek.

No... No!

The villain squeezed the arm again, cracking it. Aizawa couldn't help but cry out, and Lillian felt tears fill her eyes. The guys they'd taken down were... nothing compared to whatever this thing was. This... This Nomu. It had taken down their teacher like it was nothing, even if the man was injured. The strength it displayed was startling. Had this thing really been engineered to take out All Might?

Just what else could it do?

"You can erase people's powers. That's irritating, but nothing impressive. When faced with true, devastating power, you might as well be a Quirkless child." He spoke with airy amusement as Aizawa took in painfully ragged breaths, his body trembling from the pain and exertion of it all. Lillian watched her teacher turn defiantly towards the man, quirk activating again only for Nomu to slam one of it's massive hands down on his other arm, causing it to bend unnaturally as it was crushed. Lillian felt her tears fall, her entire body beginning to shake. Tsuyu and Izuku were frozen.

No, no, no, no. Please, no.

Lillian felt her chest constrict as the beast lifted Aizawa's head off the ground with one hand easily, slamming his face back down hard. A grunt was heard as a small indent was formed by the sheer force of the impact. Lillian felt her mind begin to cloud with panic. Their teacher was being... he was being killed right in front of them! He'd jumped into a fight with zero hesitation for their sakes, and he was paying the price.

The mist man reappeared, but Lillian didn't process. She gazed at her unmoving teacher with tears in her eyes. Her hands trembled so violently she could barely bend her fingers. She couldn't take the eyes off the dying man who'd risked it all just to save them. Izuku was staring in horror, and Tsuyu had sunken partway into the water, her chest heaving beneath its surface.

There was a flash, and soon a hand was reaching for Tsuyu's face. Lillian let out a small shriek, and Izuku stared frozen as five fingers made contact with Tsu's face. Lillian waited for something to happen, her heart racing, and tears falling down her cheeks, but nothing came. The man clicked his tongue.

"You really are so cool... Eraserhead"He glanced back to see none other the Aizawa, his eyes pupils glowing red as he focused his quirk in on the devious man. Blood red down his face, and his eyes were irritated to the extreme. Lillian felt her heart begin to pound so fast she could barely feel it anymore.

Aizawa was slammed into the pavement again, and Izuku reacted immediately. Lillian fell back with Tsu as his fist flew. Time seemed to slow as his fist came into contact with the Nomu rather than the villain himself. Lillian could hear blood rushing in her ears as the monstrous creature grabbed Izuku by the arm. Blood pulled beneath their teacher's body, and Tsu's tongue shot out to reach Midoriya in a flash. The blue-haired man covered in hands reached out for both Lillian and the frog-like girl as she did so. Lillian's heart seized, her eyes going wide, and a sob choking itself out of her throat. She opened her mouth before she could comprehend just what was happening, something inside her rearing up with a dangerous and defiant buzz.

"NO!"

And just like that, it all stopped.
