Chapter 8
Between you and Loki, you finally got all of your things finally sorted and put away. Your apartment finally looked and felt like a home when you were finished. You were just sitting down together on your couch in your living room when a voice came from the ceiling. "Dinner is ready."
You jolted and stared at the ceiling, wondering where the strange male voice had come from. It was clearly robotic of some variety.
Loki chuckled as he got to his feet again. "That would be Jarvis," he explained as you also got to your feet, sore and tired from your day of shopping and then putting everything away in a whole apartment. "It is the computer that controls most of the tower along with Stark's suits,"
You nodded along and relaxed. It wasn't so strange with how much technology Stark had around that he had a robotic AI assistant. "Guess we should head to dinner, then," you replied, a bit sheepish at your reaction.
Loki started to lead the way. "It surprised me as well when I first arrived," he reassured you as you both left your room. He was still being kinder to you than you expected. You didn't know if you were just being paranoid from your time with Hydra. People there had been particularly cruel.
You took the elevator down to the common floor where the team had gathered. The whole team was there, gathering on the couches among a mountain of pizza boxes and various beverages. They waved when you and Loki got off of the elevators.
"Come, join us!" Stark called to you, taking a swig of his drink, making Loki roll his eyes. The pair of you did approach the couches, though. That was where the food was.
"We're having an informal night," Nat explained as she gestured to the pizza boxes. "Help yourselves and we'll do proper introductions,"
You nodded and grabbed some pizza and a drink and found an empty couch to settle on with your dinner. Loki had an entire pizza box and took a spot on the other end of the couch you had chosen. No one questioned how much he had taken. Thor had three pizza boxes in front of him. You were grateful the team wasn't staring at you. They were at least pretending to continue their conversations while you got settled and while you started your dinner.
At some unspoken cue, though, the introductions began. Cap started, then the rest of the team, giving a brief overview of their names, their codenames, their powers. Stark didn't want to bother, assuming himself too famous to need to, but Cap gave him a look until he relented.
Finally, it was your turn. All eyes turned to you and you had to take a sip of your drink before you could speak. Public speaking was not your strong suit. "My name is Sigyn-" you started.
Thor gasped audibly, drawing everyone's attention to him, but most especially Loki's. "Sigyn?" Thor asked.
"Shut up," Loki warned.
"But-" Thor protested.
"Not. A. Word." Loki growled, his eyes turning dangerous as he set his pizza aside, preparing, it seemed, for more fratricide.
"Sigyn is your dead wife's name!" Thor blurted, unable to help himself.
Loki moved in a blur, faster than your eyes could track and stabbed Thor in the chest with a dagger you hadn't even seen him draw or summon. "A fact I wasn't advertising to her until the time was right, you useless, witless, oaf," he snarled at his brother as he withdrew his dagger.
The room was in an uproar as you sat in shock. "You had a wife?" "Since when?" "Why didn't you tell us?"
Loki had had a wife.
Her name had been Sigyn.
No wonder he couldn't stand your name.
How in the nine realms could he even stand the sight of you after finding out that you shared her name? How didn't he hate you on sight for daring to share her name? He couldn't be that magnanimous. No one was. He had yet to call you by your name. Clearly the memories still hurt him.
So why did he seem as drawn to you as you were to him?
