Chapter 17

Loki wasn't surprised when the knock came on his door later that evening. He was surprised it had taken Sigyn that long to come demanding her answers. He had promised her answers, after all. He had expected her to pounce on him the moment they'd gotten back to the tower, but she had given him time to return to his room and settle in before she'd come calling.

Loki had changed from his armor into green plaid pajama pants that were low slung on his hips and a black t-shirt to go with them. It wasn't an outfit up to his usual standard of dress, but he was injured and settling for comfort over appearance at the moment.

He padded over to the door on bare feet and opened it to find Sigyn on the other side as expected. He wouldn't have opened it for anyone else but Thor. He could feel who was on the other side of his shields.

She had changed as well and was back in casual clothes, though not quite as casual as his. Loki didn't apologize for his appearance. He was in his own suite and he was injured. He was allowed to dress how he wished. "I take it you are ready for explanations?"

Sigyn nodded, looking Loki over. "I am," she agreed with a frown. "Though you're still injured," she noted, too perceptive for her own damn good.

Loki sighed and inclined his head. "I am," he admitted.

Somehow Sigyn pushed her way into the suite and had shoved Loki onto his couch. "Let me see," she demanded with a healer's no-nonsense tone. Loki sighed in loving exasperation at the familiarity, especially when he didn't move fast enough for her and she lifted his shirt to see for herself.

"Patience, Lady," he bid her at her brusqueness.

"Sigyn," she corrected automatically as she looked over the wound.

Loki gripped his shirt by the back of the collar and pulled it over his head, pulling the whole thing off. That clearly hadn't been what Sigyn had been expecting him to do. She'd only been expecting him to raise it so she could see the wound, not to completely remove it. Loki smirked. He could comply with his healer's orders however he chose, especially when she didn't specify. His smirk only grew when he noted that she couldn't take her eyes off his abs for a moment, even when faced with a burn wound.

Eventually, still blushing, she got to work putting a burn ointment on the wound and wrapped Loki's chest in gauze. She did a good job, clearly knowing what she was doing.

"You still owe me an explanation," Sigyn said when she was done, handing him his shirt back so they could talk without Loki being half naked.

Loki obediently put his shirt back on, understanding that this was important and not a time to be a little shit. He could understand such things. And he could also understand that he was out of procrastination time. He sighed again and picked anxiously at his hands. "I was not born on Asgard. I was adopted into the royal family," he started, his words slow as he fought for the right ones and fought to get the words out. He hadn't actually ever spoken the story out loud. Everyone who needed to know already knew the story, so he'd never needed to. His Sigyn had never found out. "I was born on Jotunheim, the land of the frost giants,"

"So you're not Asgardian?" Sigyn asked, trying to understand what he was saying. Her voice was gentle, not disgusted. She didn't understand. Not yet. She needed to understand.

"Not by birth, only by citizenship," Loki replied, unable to keep the hurt from the centuries of lies from his voice. "I'm actually Jotun; prince of Jotunheim to be precise. And this is not what I really look like," he paused again, unable to speak an explanation of what he really looked like.

Sigyn pushed the issue anyway. Of course she did. He didn't blame her. He would have asked in her position. "If this isn't what you really look like, then what do you really look like?" She asked, curiosity getting the better of her. Her voice was still gentle, seeming to know how difficult this was for him. She didn't pressure him, didn't push, but left the question out there.

She deserves to know Sig's voice said in Loki's mind. His conscious as ever spoke in his Sigyn's voice.

Loki closed his eyes and stripped away his illusions. It took effort to strip away the magic that hid his Jotun form. That hid his sapphire skin, his crimson eyes, the markings on his skin. "This is what I truly look like," he said as he cautiously opened his eyes. He expected to see her revulsion, to see her disgust, and horror.

Instead, her expression was filled with awe. She reached forward and touched his cheek, seeming unable to stop herself from tracing the markings on his skin. "You're beautiful," she breathed.

This time, it was Loki's turn to blush purple.
