Chapter 23
Levi didn't want to suddenly pull away, feeling as if the wrong message would come across and the longer he kept it there, all the more wrong signals would be sent. Erwin, even if he wanted, couldn't pull his hands away due to the ones blocking his. The smaller hands felt nice against his rougher ones and he didn't want them gone, liking the contrast between the two.
Levi made the first move. Without breaking eye contact, he slid his hands over Erwin’s ones in order to grab the clothes, his cool finger tips sending a chill over the back of Erwin’s warm hand.
“Thank you,” Levi whispered, finally looking away and heading to the door he had found out was the bathroom.
It had served as a great place to hide when he was suffering during the history lesson.
“Oh my god!” Levi whispered to himself as he walked into the bathroom and locked himself in. “What the ever loving fuck was that?”
Was that something normal? Why didn't Erwin instantly pull away first? Were his hands even safe? That really didn't matter at the moment but still, how was he supposed to react now? Should he stay in the bathroom for a longer time than necessary?
What the fuck were these weird emotions? For fucks sake they knew each other for a little over a week and hung out two damn times, there was no need for weird emotions.
Levi was bursting with questions and it didn't help that he didn't really know how to explain or sort them out. He was in a crisis and there was no one to help. And even if there was a chance he could ask someone, who would he ask? He doubted his Uncle would be of any use in such conditions. That man was a hopeless buffoon.
“Well I guess I might as well face the music,” Levi sighed to himself as he slid out of his dress and stepped into the shower. He played with the handles until he figured out how the modern showers worked, not being able to understand how there were different temperatures of water in one pipe.
He lathered his body in soap he found on the shelf, hoping he was allowed to use it.
It smelled like Erwin and he couldn't tell if that was good or bad. He didnt necessarily mind smelling like the older but he wasnt completely stupid to not know that very close friends or couples normally used each others products and with his current crisis, it was especially scary.
At last, Levi finished his shower, stepping out of the wet space to get dressed in conflicting clothes. He slipped on the undergarments, a bit disappointed that they were on his lower hips instead of just a tad bit tighter, resting on or right above his hips. It wasn't the end of the world but he didn't like the feeling that they might slip down even though they wouldn't.
The shirt was another problem. It was long but it wasn't as long as he wished. It stopped a few inches above his knee near his mid thigh, fitting loosely yet not long enough in order to have some more decency.
"Looks like I'm in for a long night," Levi sighed to himself, pushing his hair to the back and examining his reflection in a mirror above the bathroom sink. "I look dead and hungry."
Levi sighed once more. Never had he thought about his appearance. About what others thought of him. About his own health. Always he thought that as long as he was surviving, it didn't matter even if it was unhealthy.
"Mayhaps Uncle Kenny will know how to deal with this."
Examining his body once more, Levi stepped out of the bathroom in a desperate attempt to keep ‘his’ shirt from rising and a sour expression due to the realization of his appearance.
“What's with the long face?” Erwin asked the moment Levi emerged from the bathroom, trying hard to keep his eyes on the male's face and not let them wander down towards the thighs that so boldly called for unwanted attention.
“Nothing really. Just me thinking,” Levi responded, heading over to take a seat beside the older.
Erwin looked at him as he sat with a sulk, unsure of what he should do in that situation. If he was at the school, he would have sent the student to a counselor to take a break but now was a different situation. He couldn't just send Levi away. He had to make him happy even if it would be an awkward process.
“You hungry?” Erwin finally decided to ask, expecting a negative answer.
“Not at all but feed me anyway.”
Erwin was shocked by the response but without wasting time, he got up and headed to the kitchen to get Levi a sandwich. He prepared the food expecting the younger male to not eat a great quantity and he was right.
By the time Levi had managed to eat half, Erwin had already chowed down on two, four times the amount of Levi’s hardly touched food.
“I've eaten plenty today,” Levi stated, setting down his half-eaten sandwich. “Don't you do teacher shit like grade?”
Erwin chuckled, nodding his head.
“I do but why would I do that while you're here?”
“Maybe because you're supposed to be responsible, Blondie. I could bet Hanji hands their papers back at the very last minute.”
Erwin smiled. Levi seemed to have gotten back into his usual mood. Mayhaps he was just like any other person when it came to being grumpy whilst hungry.
“Well yeah but I always get my work done in time. I don't procrastinate.”
Levi glared at him with disbelief. He just couldn't bring himself to believe Erwin no matter what.
“Whatever. I’d rather have you do it even while I'm here instead of letting it pile up like an irresponsible person.”
With a final demanding glare, Levi managed to make Erwin sigh and do as instructed, feeling intimidated by the small male. There'd never be a falter when it came to obeying him, someone half the size of most men who could inspire fear with a single look or sentence. It was truly a mystery.
“It never fails to amaze me just how easily I listen to you,” Erwin whispered as he got up to find the pile of work.
It was just past six, meaning that that was how they spent the rest of the evening until Erwin struggled in keeping his eyes open for much longer. During the times he gave himself a small break, he had gotten up to shower, leaving Levi to look through the graded papers and figure out what Erwin was trying to teach them. He didn’t have the capacity to learn but he sure as hell had the ability to scrutinize.
“My god is Eren stupid as fuck,” Levi had snickered as he judged the students paper. “I wonder what my cousin's grades are like.”
Reaching over to grab the pile, Levi shifted through the pile until he found Mikasa’s paper, simply hoping she wasn't a total idiot like her brother. He was almost willing to sacrifice something if it meant she got the intelligence he wasn’t able to have.
“Oh my god,” Levi whispered in disbelief, stars nearly shining in his grey eyes. “I'm suddenly glad I'm related to her. This score is beautiful.”
Erwin walked in to see Levi completely starstruck over the paper. It was an adorable sight and Erwin wished he could frame the expression forever.
Levi sat with his legs hanging off the edge of the sofa, the shirt barely doing its job and pulling up to expose further up his pale legs. The papers on his lap the only thing helping to cover him somewhat. Levi’s hair was in its usual state, appearing as if it had a rebound position and didn't move no matter what which was an envy for the majority of humanity with hair problems. One of the sleeves fell partially off the smaller’s shoulder, the garment being a tad bit too big which was expected.
Erwin loved it. Never had he felt such constricting emotions. Emotions that made him want to wrap Levi in a hug and smother him but also protect him and keep him away from all danger. Honestly, the best choice between the two was to smother him considering he had been away from the population for so long and there was a high chance he craved attention more than not.
It was scary though. He hardly knew Levi. Hell he didn't even know the simplest things like his favourite colour or his birthday. He knew nothing but he felt emotions within him that should be kept in a corner and ignored until the timing was perfect. They had hung out a total of two times, less than what the majority did before they could even consider a crush.
“Are you really so amazed by grades?” Erwin asked with a laugh, taking a seat beside Levi and causing several of the papers to slide off the smaller male’s thighs due to the movement.
“Yeah. Ackerman’s were known to be smart and it makes me feel happy that she's the same. Although, you wouldn't be able to say that about me with history,” Levi said, amusement in his voice directed at himself.
“I can't believe such things make you so happy.”
Levi shrugged, crossing his ankles while getting comfortable in his seat. After all, they would be there until Erwin was done. He’d make sure of it.
._._.
“You take the bed.”
“No. Are you an idiot? I don't even really sleep.”
Erwin sighed. It was fruitless. He really wanted to sleep but Levi was being stubborn. Why couldn’t he just be a normal guest, argue a bit with where he would sleep and then, reluctantly agree after a bit of back and forth.
But no. Levi was different. An absolute handful.
He didn’t budge, didn’t care, argued for ages, and didn’t show the least bit of agreeing anytime soon. Fucking fruitless.
“Just take the bed. At least be comfortable all night.”
Levi stared at him. His eyes looking deep into Erwin without breaking away or laughing for staring too hard.
“I can argue all night. You can't. The difference here is that you need sleep and I just can't sleep. So in the end, you suffer most.”
Erwin let out an audible groan, standing up with a frown. Levi smirked at his victory, feeling a sense of accomplishment. Unfortunately, the feeling was short-lived due to Erwin having different ideas.
“OI!” Levi yelled, smacking Erwin’s hands as they snaked under his knees and behind his back. “What the fuck are you doing?”
“Well you didn't want to go willingly so now I have to do the hard work and carry your concerningly light body,” Erwin replied, making his way across the house and dropping Levi on his bed.
He smirked in satisfaction, leaving the room but didn't even manage to take two steps before he was pulled back only to fall right across Levi.
“You're staying here,” Levi whispered in assertion, making a move to push off Erwin and run out the room.
“Well if I have to, then so do you.”
Erwin wrapped his arms around Levi’s tiny waist, holding him securely so he wouldn't escape. They were now both trapped in the bed where they both didn't want to be but now had no choice but to stay.
“What the hell is this human relation?” Levi muttered under his breath in defeat, squirming around to get as comfortable as possible in the now fruitless ‘war’.
He might as well make the best of his situation if Erwin planned on holding him a prisoner in his strong arms.
“Good night,” Erwin whispered, closing his eyes and falling asleep nearly instantly.
Levi remained emotionless, more irritated at the fact that the door was open and the light in the living room was on, more so than the fact that he was now stuck in place.
“So unhealthy of him,” Levi said in disgust, not moving from his captured position.
He had no intentions to remain the entire night in the spot Erwin had held him in but as the time moved on, Levi began getting relaxed against Erwin’sside, listening to the steady breathing and gradually, he didn't feel like moving anymore.
“What the hell am I still doing here?” Levi asked himself out loud. “I should’ve made the light off three hours ago.”
Carefully, he began moving out of Erwin’s grip, not wanting to wake the male. His attempt was unsuccessful though.
Erwin’s grip on him didn't loosen and nor did it tighten. It seemed to be locked together in a way so that Levi couldn't escape no matter what.
“Now imagine if I needed to take a piss?” Levi groaned in frustration.
Why did he have to be stuck in such a situation? Reluctantly accepting the cruel fate, Levi decided that the best he could do for the sleepless night was to listen to Erwin's calm breathing and to figure out how he'd explain the situation with his Father if he ever came to find out. Hopefully it would never.
