Chapter 19
Walking out, Levi looked around the now deserted school void of any slimy creatures, wondering what all they’d be able to get done and if he’d be able to get anything in the first place.
“We’ll take a carriage and then walk around the main shopping area,” Erwin explained once they reached outside, going over to a carriage that waited on the side of the road for anyone that would possibly need a ride. Such as them
Levi followed Erwin wordlessly into the carriage, taking a seat nearest the window in order to stare out as they rode. The ride wasn’t long but it was definitely a mixture between excited, tense, and awkward but in a way that didn’t suffocate them and instead simply made its presence known.
It took a while but when it suddenly got too much, Levi told Erwin about Joan, who laughed at him in a non condescending way. Levi wasn’t going to accept the chortle, planning to stand his ground and announce that he was completely innocent and it was entirely Joan’s fault but plans changed when the carriage stopped.
“Looks like we’re here,” Erwin smiled, getting out before Levi could manage to say something and taking out money.
Levi followed suit, also taking out money before a hand was held up and he was stopped by the driver.
“Why not?” Levi asked, having suspicions on what it was.
“Yer Kenny’s nephew. ‘m not s’posed ter charge ya.”
“How’d you know that?” Levi asked, a bit surprised at the fact that all of the drivers so far knew who he was. Scary.
“Oh please. Kenny’s been describing ya fur the past week and makes sure we won’t furget ya.”
“Oh,” Levi said dumbly, nodding his head as he told himself that it made sense and it was something his Uncle would do. “Thank you.”
Thanking the driver once more, Levi stuck close to Erwin as they began walking into the stores around them.
First stop was a snack place and just by that Levi knew right away Erwin would try to get him to eat something he would normally never, but he didn’t complain.
“I’ll buy you a treat so pick out anything you like,” Erwin instructed, gesturing to the baked goods and other edible food items.
“I’m fine, I ate earlier. Remember?” Levi asked, having had told the blond during their ride.
“You hardly ate. Just eat a little more before you pass out.”
Levi would have refused, closed down on the offer certainly and he was going to but then again, he really didn’t want to pass out. Tough choice but Erwin staring down at him made him feel so much smaller and as if he didn’t have a say so he sighed and began scanning the items for something he would probably like.
Settling on a muffin, Erwin paid as well as got a drink for himself.
The raven haired nibbled on his muffin as they walked out, the blueberry in it tasting quite nice and a bit sweet. Something he never realized he liked. Did he have a sweet tooth?
Even if he did have a special liking to sweets that he never knew about, he really wasn’t hungry which meant he got less than half way through before he looked at Erwin with pain in his eyes.
The blond didn’t notice at first which resulted in the need for physical touch whereby Levi found himself gently tugging the blond's arm like a child but at least that’s when he glanced down to see Levi holding his barely eaten muffin up at him.
“Do you want?" Levi asked. "I’m full and it tastes good but I'm done.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah. I mean, I understand if you wouldn't want because I ate from it but I just thought I'd share.”
“It doesn’t matter that you ate from it," Erwin quickly said, not wanting the wrong point to get across. "I’ll take it only if you’re sure.”
With a nod of approval from the shorter, Erwin took it from his grasp. Levi looked around as they walked, not trying to seem like an overly excited child while Erwin carried about without a second glance at anything, used to the surroundings already as he bit into the muffin. It was until they walked far enough where voices could be heard without yelling that they heard familiar voices from somewhere among the crowd.
“If you didn't see that, then your eye sight is shitty as fuck. I told you at school they’re something and if you still think otherwise then you’re dumb.”
“They only shared food, that’s all. Nothing special. We share food all the time," a voice shot back.
“Are you an idiot? We’re dating.”
“Shut up Ymir.”
Erwin let out a tiny sigh while Levi carried out the simple task of pretending he heard nothing but it was obvious he did with the way his face twitched.
“Those two will be talking about this until they find something else exciting,” Erwin said.
“Is that so? Don’t those brats have anything else to be doing?”
“I'd like to know the same. I'm sure they have homework," Erwin muttered. "Well, where shall we go first?”
“Clothing stores? I wanna get a few pairs. I only have some I’ve been wearing for the past four or so years.”
Erwin thought carefully, trying to figure if he remembered any stores that sold clothing to match Levi's assumed preference.
“What kind of clothes do you want?”
“Preferably dresses. I don’t like wearing my suits very much, " Levi explained. "I also realized I always wear formal clothes so maybe something that makes me feel comfortable but casual.”
And a lightbulb went off in the blonde's head, signifying that he knew just the right place.
“There’s a place not too far from here. We can go there. It’s mostly feminine clothing but they have a few masculine pieces.”
With a nod from Levi, they walked to the store, weaving through all the people and Levi occasionally holding onto Erwin’s shirt so they wouldn’t get separated in the evening rush.
It was the longest minute of Levi’s life to walk through sweaty bodies and musty smells and he was starting to feel disgusted by the amount of people he had brushed against. He desperately wanted out now.
Luckily, the store was just a footstep away, looking a decent size and appearing to have a variety of clothes from what he could tell through the large windows. Sure enough, the inside had rows of clothing which made Levi happy. Especially to see nice dresses.
The inside was completely opposite from the outside in the sense that there weren’t that many people, which was relieving and allowed Levi to go straight to searching for any garments he liked.
Erwin, on the other hand, didn't know what to do or what to look for so with the only purpose but to help his friend, he walked around the store trying to find clothes that Levi might like. Unfortunately, Erwin didn’t really know what Levi’s taste was like which meant guessing.
He was doing fine until he heard a male strike up a conversation with the raven haired and in any other situation, he would have been perfectly fine. Happy even, that the shorter was making friends but it was the disgusted voice that followed that made him turn instantly.
“Disgusting. What are you? A fuckin’ f*g that’s what!"
