Chapter 1

Brindley Humphery sits on her couch cross-legged. She closes her Dell laptop, removes the laptop from her lap and sets it on the coffee table. Brindley wears a short-sleeved tee shirt and a pair of dark gray yoga pants. Her phone buzzes beside her. Brindley picks up the phone and answers a facetime call from her best friend Sadie.

"Hey B". Sadie pauses. "What are you up to?".

"Not much. Just wrapped up a job and sent off some pictures to a client". Brindley places her phone on a sparkly tuxedo car diamond dot phone stand to continue conversing with Sadie. Brindley picks up a small stack of various colored envelopes from the coffee table, all each containing a wedding invitation.

"Was that the wedding at the fancy golf club?" Sadie asks.

"Yeah. The country club. The pictures came out well. The family was...hopefully people that will be happy people". Brindley leans back against the couch and flips over a lavender invitation to familiarize herself with impending wedding details.

"Yeah, the fancy scene has never really been you" Sadie recalls.

"Simple. No drama. That's me" Brindley replies.

"With how well I know you, you'd probably have a very inexpensive wedding budget" Sadie presumes.

"Maybe. Have to find a guy first... to marry first" Brindley reminds her.

"With all the weddings you attend, I'm surprised haven't come across your prefect suitor" Sadie states.

Brindley rolls her eyes. "Hard to find a guy, when there is usually a date attached". Brindley opens another envelope. "Besides, I'll find my guy eventually. There isn't a time limit to finding your other half".

"But it doesn't get to you, not even sometimes. I feel if I were single and going to all these romantic couple clique events, it'd bother me a little. But you're strong. You don't need a guy" Sadie explains.

"Yeah," Brindley replies.

After a while of chatting, Brindley ends the conversation. Her phone happens to be relocated to the charger. Brindley crosses the hardwood floor to enter the kitchen. She collects some leftovers from Olive Garden, that happened to be left in the fridge. After dinner and watching a couple episodes of Gilmore Girls on Netflix, Brindley retires to bed. The next morning, Brindley wakes up. She remains lying in bed for a short a moment.

The mention of her remaining currently single had somehow stuck with her. It's not that she didn't want a guy or having a guy needed to complete her. But she had been afraid to put herself out there? Most of the time, she had mainly focused on getting the best pictures for her clients. Which was her job to some overall degree. But had she been using the job tasks as a distraction tool? She shakes her head, intending to redirect her thoughts. She exits the bed. Now a tea kettle whistles and a subtle knock is heard; Brindley handles the tea kettle. Sadie opens the door, alerting Brindley to her visit.

"I brought Starbucks,". Sadie closes the door, heads to the kitchen and places a paper bag on the counter, which contains a warm blueberry muffin. She hands her a grande Iced green tea.

"You should really start reconsidering your breakfast choices," Brindley advises her friend, while Sadie bites into a chocolate sprinkled cake pop.

"I could...or I could steer straight into my family genetics and eventually die happy". Sadie hops and takes a seat on the counter.

"And die young possibly,". Brindley grabs a plate from the overhead cabinet.

Sadie shrugs. "At least I'd be happy,".

"Yeah, being happy is key". Brindley spreads some butter on a half the muffin.

"B, is there something on your mind?" Sadie asks, curious.

"I got to thinking about what you mentioned last night. About the whole single thing" Brindley answers.

"Oh B. I didn't mean for you to question your life choices. There's no timeline to find someone" Sadie explains.

"I know. But am I afraid? Do I act scared to put myself out there?" Brindley inquires, gaining a shrug in response. "Maybe, I focus too much on the job. I mean it is my job anyways to try to get the most amazing pictures for the clients to remind them of happy memories later on. But maybe I'm not enjoying the opportunity of getting to go to all these weddings".

"Well, I think you have a good work ethic. If that helps". Sadie hops off the counter and begins to head into the living room. "Where are all these invitations?". Sadie sits down on the couch and picks up a couple of invitations.

"Dare I ask what you're scheming?". Brindley sits down on the couch.

Sadie shuffles a couple of the envelopes. "You're forever plus one is in one of these invitations. Let me rephase that, maybe...just maybe in one of these invitations".

"My forever plus one. This determining factor being on a paper invitation" Brindley comments, unsure of proceeding with the plan. "Boy, will this be a story to tell my future husband".

Sadie turns to face her, showcasing the invitations between her hands.  Call it, giving fate a chance to step in".

"This is stupid. Completely and utterly dumb" Brindley decides.

"Stop being so safe. Take a risk" Sadie advises.

"No. This isn't going to work. With my luck, I'll fall in love with the groom" Brindley replies. "Or a super entitled insecure dude".

"Oh, fine". Now Sadie lies the envelopes on the coffee table and chooses one. Sadie picks up a blue sparkly envelope, opens it and begins to read it. "You're cordially invited to the wedding of Emmalyn Grayson and Tyler Hudson at Hancock Shaker Village in Berkshire Mass. June 6th at 1 pm. A summer wedding sounds fun. Even an option of a plus one. Are you in need of a wing woman? A best friend date, perhaps".

"We'll see" Brindley replies.
