"Fitz!" Sophie raced down the sandy hill, leaping over piles of selkie goo. She almost tackled him with a hug.

"I doubt you and Keefe were worried."

"That's not fair."

"No, what's not fair is my cognate lying to me!"

Dex slid down the hill and made his way over. "Fitz, she wasn't lying. You're just super oblivious."

Fitz glared.

"Hey. Stop it. I- We need to talk to everyone at Candleshade."

"Why? So you can tell everyone that you and Keefe are dating?" Fitz spat.

"You are impossible to deal with."

"I-" Sophie cut him off by transmitting her memories of her time with Keefe.

The only reason I had second thoughts was because you left. I went up there to comfort a friend. And ended up thinking about two of my best friends that I might have a crush on. I wish... none of us had feelings for each other, but that's not happening. I just want to know: No matter what, cognates?

... Cognates. Fitz and Sophie hugged for a second. "Did anyone think to grab Keefe's home crystal?"

"No..." Dex said slowly.

"Can we go to your house and use the Leapmaster, Dex?"

"You want to go to my house? With my family?" he asked with a raised eyebrow.

"You're right. We'll just go to my house." Sophie dug out her home crystal and held it to the light. After everyone linked arms, they stepped in to the path of light her crystal created.

When they got to Sophie's house, they quickly took the Leapmaster to Candleshade, where they gathered everyone for a group meeting.
