Sleeping Beauty

What I would give to see the gleam in her eyes once more
To see a wonderous ocean of emotions as I stand at the shore
Staring into it, she would have stared back into mine, I'm sure.

What I would give to hold her hand, feel her gentle heat
To lay my head upon her chest and hear her heartbeat
To hear her say, "I love you," everyday on repeat

What I would give to hear her laugh so sweet
To once again love her beneath those satin sheets
But now, it seems the 'forever' we promised is marred by deceit

Now as I loom over her prostrate body, I weep
For the promise of life I reassured, I also failed to keep
And now I am tortured, for my beauty has entered a permanent sleep

No, this you surely cannot expect me to just take!
For I will stay with my love until she once again awakes
And if she never awakes, then I put my life on stake

With a heart filled with utter grief and sorrow
I decide that without her, then I, too, must go
For never was there a story of more woe
Than this of Juliet and her Romeo
