Chapter 3

Aaron didn't mean to kill Abigail Adams.  He looked down at her lifeless body in horror as the canon fired.  He had killed her.  She had jumped out of the bushes and attempted to stab him.  He had reached for a sharp rock and hit her with it.  In the chest.  With the sharp side.  Once her brother figured out it was Aaron who killed her, he would be dead in a heartbeat.

The sound of John Adams calling his sister's name startled Aaron.  He dropped the rock and ran.  He heard John's scream a few meters behind him.  He must've found his sister's body.  Aaron didn't stop running.  If he stopped, John could catch up and kill him.

After a few minutes of running, he walked and looked around.  There wasn't anyone nearby, so he climbed a tree and watched as the faces of the fallen tributes lit up the sky.  Abigail from Four.  Christi from Five.  Rowan from Eleven.  Several others who Aaron didn't recognize appeared.  And then they were gone.  Their bodies would be sent back to their Districts and then they would be completely forgotten.  However, Aaron kept thinking of Rowan.  Humorous yet feisty.  Aaron had talked to Rowan often during training.  He recalled the time they discussed everyone's odds of winning.

*Flashback*

"I don't know, Aaron.  Nikki seems like she could take down a few people," Rowan said, looking out at the room of tributes.

"Yeah.  But look at Cass from Seven.  She could actually win," Aaron pointed out.

"There's John Laurens from Ten.  What do you think about him?" the Eleven tribute asked.

"Well, we both know what happened last time a Ten tribute won," Aaron said, and his friend- no, fellow tribute- nodded.

"And how about Alexander, the Twelve boy?" Rowan glanced over at the boy with his dark hair tied back in a short ponytail. (A/N: He's referring to Alex, not Aaron.  I hope nobody got confused by that.)

"I honestly don't think he stands much of a chance.  I won't be surprised if he's dead in the Bloodbath," Aaron shrugged.

"Okay," Rowan said, then sighed.

"What is it?"

"Would you try to kill me in the Hunger Games?"

"I don't think I'd live past the first day.  And no, I wouldn't kill you.  I'd actually like to be allies if that's okay."

"I'd really like that," Rowan smiled.

*End of Flashback*

Aaron sighed.  Rowan, his only ally, was gone for good.  So all he could do now was sit back and watch as everyone else killed each other.  Then, he had to hope that he'd be able to outlive his opponent.  But until then, he just had to wait for it.

A/N: Hey everyone!  How are you guys liking the story so far?  I'd like to address two things.

1. Rowan and Aaron discuss the fact that the last time there was a victor from District Ten, something happened to them.  I promise you all will learn about the Ten victor in upcoming chapters.

2. I promised that once Rowan died, it wouldn't be the last of him.  What I meant was he would appear in flashbacks such as the one in this chapter and maybe some other things.  Rowan may also appear in some of my other stories/ stories I will write in the future.  So if you guys are reading my story Friends Forever?, then don't be surprised if his name pops up at one point.

Thank you so much for reading!!
