Chapter Twenty-Three
Breakfast.
He had made her breakfast.
Gita had showered but the thought lingered in her head. She hadn't expected much from this entire deal, especially in regards to the relationship and she was struggling with how to explain to him she chose him because she wanted more members for the Anders clan but he made her breakfast. No reason either. She was used to females doing that for their mates, hell a majority of her female relatives had done the same. They took care of their males, made them food, took care of the house. Gita had been expecting a little bit of a fight with that, a push for her to keep her position as an agent rather than a homemaker but now all of that was out the window because he had made her breakfast.
She had gotten dressed, some clothes were set out for her on the made bed and she had been confused but they had turned out to be sweats and a tshirt, smaller than Flint but clearly big on her. She wondered if Flint had grown out of them. Which derailed her thought process because all she could imagine was the breadth of his shoulders, how perfectly muscled he was, how it felt to dig her nails into his skin and hold him tight to her.
It took her a few seconds to reorientate herself before she slowly made her way down the stairs. He was pulling on some runners and he flashed her an easy grin when she came into view. Her heart did a weird little flutter thump but she couldn't help the soft feeling rising up inside of her as she gave him a small smile in return.
"You look good in those." He stood up straight and gave her a slow but clearly appraising look and she flushed just the slightest.
"They're a bit big on me." She tugged at the hem of the tshirt and he chuckled.
"Yah, but they're mine and I like you in what's mine." His words had her flushing a bit more and before she could truly react he had walked over and bent down, pressing a kiss underneath her ear that had fire sparking along her veins. She wanted to grab her male and pull him in for a kiss, maybe even pull him to the closest surface so they could continue what they had been doing for the past few days.
Sex.
A pile more sex.
She wanted that and he just chuckled again, the sound skipping down her neck as he pulled back. "You're going to be trouble, aren't you?" He just smirked as he pressed a hand to her back and guided her to the front door. "Shoes on. We can go deal with the paperwork and then we can come home and get into as much trouble as you want." The way he spoke, so calm and unbothered, seemed to rile her up even more to the point a faint whimper caught in her throat.
Gita wasn't used to that. She was a tough female in her own right, someone who can handle things on her own, but a mere glance from him made her weak in the knees and a brush of his lips against her skin made her needy. She wondered if it was the new bond more than anything. She knew most werewolf couples took almost a full month off after a mating so they could bond more. So she wondered if that was the issue, they just hadn't given the bond enough time to settle under their skins.
Which the thought left her a little panicky as she slipped on her shoes. What if the bond was too new and could be broken? She was already well on her way to being attached to Flint. Like attached attached. She had been without a clan in so long that she was feeling the effects of it and her beast was needy for social ties. She didn't want to lose them right when they were forming. She didn't want to be alone again.
The thought that perhaps it was too soon to leave their den and enter the world was enough to have her balking. Gita wanted more members for the Anders clan, she wanted to keep her male. The thought of not having either because they left too soon made her want to start babbling with reasons for why they shouldn't leave the house until later.
Flint's hand stroked up her back, grasping the back of her neck. She stilled, shivering at the action as his fingers gently pressed against her neck, holding her. "It's okay, Gita. We're just doing paperwork and then we're coming back home." He murmured the words low and Gita glanced up at him, seeking comfort for something she hadn't named. His rich brown gaze was reassuring and he dipped his head, brushing a chaste kiss across her lips. "Just for a few hours and then we come home and we'll have a few weeks to ourselves."
She found herself nodding in agreement and that did settle the restless beast and instincts inside of her. She could share him with the world for a few hours before they came back home. He was so reassuring, every bit of him held a commanding presence and just being next to him made her feel like things were going to be okay, that he had her, that things would work out. Gita didn't know how much of that was attached to the tugging sensation that pulled her towards him, or perhaps him being a guardian to a clan. Which, she realized, that conversation needed to be had again, last time they had been a bit... distracted.
"So were you a guardian of your clan?" She walked beside him out of the house and he nodded.
"I was the eldest son of the eldest daughter of my clan. I took over after my father passed." He led her towards the Volvo, opening the door for her. Gita slipped in the passenger seat with a small smile up at him that had him bending down further and kissing her again. Gita's hands twitched on her lap as she resisted digging her fingers into his hair and tugging him down for a much more heated kiss. He simply chuckled and gave her a second kiss. "Later, love."
He pulled back and closed the door and Gita's chest felt warm at the pet name. She hadn't had a pet name since her great grandmother passed, the elderly woman always called her baby or honey. She had forgotten how much she had enjoyed them. She watched as he walked around the front of the car. He hadn't changed out of his sweats, only put on a tshirt but he looked down right fucking edible.
She nibbled on her lip lip as he opened his door and got in. "You're going to be trouble." He didn't look at her as he chuckled again and started the car. Once he had pulled out of the driveway he reached over and grasped her hand, linking their fingers together as her hand rested on her lap. "We will go to the Justice of the Peace first." He spoke so calmly and Gita wondered how he did it because she felt like she was needy, very needy, as she shifted in her seat, flushing with arousal as she tightened her grip on his hand. "The bank second, and my lawyer last. It shouldn't take too long."
His words pulled her from the slight haze she was recognizing as the mating fever lingering around her and her expression twitched. How the hell was she going to tell a former guardian of a clan that she wanted him to transfer over to the Anders clan? She had zero clue on how that would work. Even she knew guardians tended to stick to their clans, even if they were no longer protecting. Added to that, the female always went to their male's clan, she had zero idea how to approach it.
Gita cursed, for a moment, her impulsive nature. She always got herself into shit when she was trying to make things better. Case in point the way she got kidnapped. Agent Roike had been correct, she never should have taken that mission on alone. She should have had a second agent with her but all she had been thinking was taking down old way cultists, nothing else.
"How are you feeling?" Flint seemed to relax into his seat as they drove and Gita glanced at him, slightly confused. "The wolfsbane, any side effects? We can stop by an apothecary and get you some moon pollen tea and potions." He glanced at her and she flushed just a touch, less about what he said and more about the look itself. She forgot what it was like to be cared for.
"Just a little stiff and tired." Her joints did ache a fraction and she was tired, both were common symptoms after being doused with the poisonous herb.
"Okay. I'll get you some tea and potions for that." He squeezed her hand gently. "And we can work out some less strenuous positions for you for sex when we get home. Something low impact on your joints to help prevent aching." His wording was so clinical but Gita was stuck between laughter and wanting to crawl onto his lap and kiss him senseless.
"Don't say shit like that!" She almost squawked it out between stuttered laughter. He flashed her a toothy grin and she knew he was doing it on purpose.
"You're getting anxious. I'm just doing my best to distract you." He shrugged, as if completely unbothered by it and Gita almost melted at his words. She appreciated it but at the same time that didn't help dispel her anxiety about the whole clan thing. She worked it over and over in her head and every time she thought of a way to try and say it, she balked and ended up commenting on something stupid.
When they parked at the court building her heart rate jumped and she swallowed hard. She realized she was clinging tightly to Flint's hand when he shook off her grip so he could put the car into park. "You tend to be a little reckless, don't you? Impulsive." He was looking at her and Gita grimaced but nodded. "I could tell." He just chuckled in response as he got out of the car, Gita didn't wait for him to come around as she got out.
"Listen, Flint, about the clan-"
"Inside." He cut her off as he grasped her hand and walked towards the main doors confidently and Gita could feel her insides squirming at his quick cut off. He led her to the main reception area and kept a hold of her hand as he looked at the clerk. "Can I get a mating form?"
The woman nodded, smiling at them both. "Absolutely and congratulations to you both!"
Gita gave a small smile as the paperwork was handed over and she let out a shaky breath. "Flint, I really should explain." She stopped as he let her hand go and started filling in the form, her heart thundering. "So I chose you- wait, that isn't how I want to say that. When I heard about what was happening with you-" She cut herself off, telling him she took advantage of his situation wasn't what she wanted to say as well. "What I'm trying to say it-"
"What's your clan's name? Anders?" He glanced over at her, looking completely unbothered as she stammered.
She gave a small nod and her mouth went cry. "Listen, my clan has a lot of history and I just want to say-"
"Here. Fill it out." He slid the paper over to her and she wanted to push it, feeling sick to her stomach. She couldn't leave her clan, she couldn't turn her back on the memories of her family, of her ancestry.
She looked down at the papers and froze. He had filled out the area she had been expecting to fill out. The portion of the forms that stated he was renouncing the Maddock clan to be part of the Anders clan, their main family clan. She blinked and stared at the paper, trying to see if it would disappear if she stared hard enough.
He had filled out the section that usually females were expected to fill out, where they were expected to renounce their clans to be brought into their mate's clans. She touched the section he filled out naming the Anders clan as their family clan, the clan he was being brought into and she swallowed hard. "Why?" It came out shaky and she couldn't even look at him because she knew she would burst into tears if she did. He wanted to be in her clan. She hadn't had to ask or argue. He wanted to be an Anders and he made her breakfast.
"The Maddock clan has enough members and I own them nothing. I haven't for years." He slid a hand up her back and held the back of her neck gently, his thumb brushing her pulse. "I'm a clanless werewolf, my only family is you, Gita. You're the only one that matters." Gita sniffled as she signed her name and then turned, pressing herself into his chest so he wouldn't see her tears. She wrapped her arms around him tightly as she let out a shuddering breath as she buried her face into his chest.
How the fuck had she gotten so goddamn lucky?
