Part 2

Gaster sighed, staring at the contents of the crib, silently cursing the humans that had attacked the homes of his kind. Their actions resulted in so much knowledge, and lore, being lost...

Including what to do, when one had twins.

Identical twins...

The knowledge of fraternal twins had been saved, but identical twins? That had been lost.

"I barely know what to do with one baby, how am I going to take care of two of you?" He asked, as one of the tiny Babybones shifted, opening their eyesockets, and staring at him.

Gaster sighed, it was the more energetic one.

The little one giggled, and he wiggled around, bumping into his sleeping twin, and the bars of their crib, making Gaster sigh, and pick up the wiggling Babybones. "Don't wake your brother up, I just got him to sleep."

The Babybones giggled, and he cooed, as Gaster stood up, rocking the active Babybones, in an effort to make him go back to sleep.

He huffed, when the Babybones managed to jam one of his tiny fists, into one of his eyesockets. "You're going to be so much trouble when you're older, aren't you?"

The Babybones giggled, he seemed to find joy in his father's misery.

Gaster sighed, a few hours old, and this one was already showing signs that he would be trouble, when he was older...

He walked over to where he had a few bottles of magical formula.

Doctor Slate, that weird alternative version of himself, had been a literal angel for having the recipe for this. He warmed a bottle of it up, and he sat down, feeding it to the Babybones.

Normally, he should be using his female Ecto for this, but an injury that he had been given, when he was younger, during his escape from human slavers that had kept him as a pet, for a few years, had damaged the Magical pathways that one used to summon Ecto, before he knew how to summon it. His lack of knowledge on that subject, had resulted in that wound healing incorrectly, permanently locking him out of his female Ecto, for the rest of his life.

Without anyone to teach him how to be a Skeleton, he just had to learn how to be a Skeleton, through trial and error, developing his own traditions, and language, and learning how to survive on his own.

It was a miracle that he had the few social skills that he currently had, and that he had been able to keep his job, for so long, without being fired due to his constant social blunders.

And that he had friends that actually put up with him, and his tendency to bite, when he was nervous.

He was so thankful that he had met Slate, and got that formula recipe, before he had that lab accident that resulted in him having a solid mass attached to his spine, that eventually hatched, giving him the twins.

Originally, everyone, including him, had thought that he had gotten a mutated version of any illness, or disease, that was fatal for a Skeleton to have, especially with how his intake of food, mainly magic rich food, had gone through the roof.

Grillby, and his diner, had been a blessing...

But the twins? Nobody would have known that they were in that solid mass... Was that how Skeletons reproduced, if they wouldn't use Ecto? Or did his body, and Magic, mutate to skip using Ecto as a way to reproduce?

"I am never going to be left alone, if certain Monsters find out that I gave birth to you." Gaster muttered, putting the empty bottle down, so that he could burp the energetic one.

And that was the truth... Gaster sighed. He meant no offense to the Queen, but her constant talks about how a baby boom was all that they needed to bring Hope up, irritated him.

He did respect her for overhauling the adoption, and child advocate laws, making it easier for children to be adopted, and making it easier for them, to speak up, when something was wrong, but her long term plan of boosting Hope with a baby boom, just wasn't working...

Gaster walked over to the crib, watching as the energetic one slowly went to sleep, and he breathed a sigh of relief.

He leaned over the crib, with the intent to put the energetic one down, only to see that the other one was awake.

"Oh no..." Gaster started to internally pray, seeing the twinkle in the faint eyelights of the one that he was calling, the quiet one. "Please, don't wake your brother up. I just got him to sleep, and I need to sleep..."

The Babybones didn't move, as if they were thinking about how to react to their Father's plea for peace, but eventually, they shuffled around, and didn't complain as they were switched with their dozing twin, and removed from the crib.

They didn't make a sound, but they happily cooed, and Gaster smiled.

He sat down, and he let the little one grab one of his fingers, feeling himself melt, as he watched those tiny hands wrap around his finger.

So, here we go, this is where it all began for Dusk and Dawn, in a small crib, being tended to by their Father, as he adjusts to being a parent, to a pair of twins that seem to be complete opposites, to each other.

We also get a bit of background lore, for Gaster, the AU itself, and some of the other characters of the AU.
