The Third Hour

Matt's breath was caught in his throat.

Chris' face felt numb.

The gun that was raised toward the middle triplet was mocking their inabilities to speak, run, feel.

"Stop!"

The sudden outburst from the larger man made their crying for their brother stop.

"Open your mouth's one more fuckin' time and I promise neither of ya are making it to sunlight," Three spat as he moved the firearm towards Chris' face. "One may be scared ta' shoot ya, but I ain't."

The influencers sat still, their lives at stake.

Three smiled slightly before grunting as he sat back on their coffee table that was still a few feet away from the center of their living room. The small wood creaking underneath the intruder's weight. Like it was groaning in protest of him being there. A feeling that was becoming well-known.

A clatter upstairs made Chris flinch. He squeezed his bruised face up slightly as his aching body complained.

Matt spared a glance at Three and then to Chris. The man never said he couldn't look at his brother.

His slightly younger brother caught on and met Matt's eyes.

The brunette felt his breath hitch as it was overwhelming to see his brother. So much being said between each other without a word entering the atmosphere.

Matt watched as Chris' lips began to tremble at the sight of him. The older triplet in the room frowned and nodded to him, trying to assure him that it was alright. Even though they were far from it.

In a twisted way, Matt wouldn't be entirely horrified if this is how he left this planet. Although there was much he wanted to still do and achieve, he wouldn't be so torn up.

There was a time when he had less yet still thought about leaving this all behind. It was a choice he had denied himself. Fought so hard to steer away from. It was like the universe was mocking him. He had considered taking his own life once upon a time. Right now, he'd allow himself to take the bullet in a heartbeat if it meant his brother's got away unscathed.

A sudden noise brought the middle brother back to the present.

He jumped slightly as he noticed Nick coming down the stairs. Chris followed Matt's eyes and let them wonder to his oldest triplet brother.

One had Nick by the back of his white t-shirt, leading him down the stairs. Two came down with three duffel bags that looked like they were going to bust at the seems any minute. Maybe they did have too much shit-

"Grab him," One ordered, the action cutting off Chris' thoughts.

A strong, meaty hand grabbing his left arm up and yanking him up, made him stumble with his bound feet.

Nick grunted as he was pushed to his knees, still watching Three drag his baby brother.

Matt was crying now.

He had tried to stay strong. But now it didn't matter. His only younger brother was being dragged in their home by murderers. He was afraid.

He leaned forward and allowed sobs to rack his body.

His older brother hushing him, trying to reassure him.

Matthew knew that act all too well. He had just done the same for his own little brother.

Two grumbled something under his breath as he realized he was going to be the lookout once again.

Chris stumbled down to his room, his body screaming at him to quit moving.

One opened his door, flicking the light on without grasping around in the dark for the light switch.

It was unnerving the way the intruders knew their way around a home that wasn't theirs.

The largest of the criminals shoved Chris inwards, not caring the way Chris let out a muffled gasp of pain as he caught himself against the edge of his bed with just his hip bones and balance. His naked feet padded his hardwood floor, the cold sinking into his prone skin.

"What have you got for us, Chrissy?"

His stomach recoiled at the nickname, it sounded so wrong coming from a man like him. A man that had attacked him and his brothers.

Chris had to think for a moment. His mind reeling, "um, under my bed. My-My laptop should be right there."

His voice betrayed him as it wavered. Three took notice and smiled, "what's the problem, kid?"

Christopher frowned and shook his head, ignoring the way it sent a jolt of pain splitting through his skull.

Three grabbed him by the back of his hair, the sudden motion sending his vision swimming. Chris felt himself lose balance, allowing his frigid feet to peel away from their short sanctuary.

Suddenly, he was pressed against the front of the largest man that had entered their home.

"If you think for one second that-"

"Get off of him, Three!" One rounded the corner from the side of Chris' bed, laptop in tow.

Chris was pushed to the side, he stumbled into his dresser, pepper spray tumbling from off of the thick, dark wood and smacking his pinky toe. The pain in his ribs made him yelp in surprise. He slid down the dresser, handles scraping his naked back.

He hit the ground with a thump, his chest rising and falling drastically in return of his forced movements.

Through his heart pounding within his ears, he faintly heard the conversation, no, argument happening in front of him.

"What did I say about trying shit-"

"You said that we could-"

"That was before we realized they were all home! We would have to kill them all. We do not have time for that kind of mess. Three is too many. And could you imagine the ruckus? It's even odds, David-Three."

The air seemed to stand still as the two assailants stared at each other. Since the burglary had taken place, One has had his facade locked in place. But, in that moment, Chris watched as it crumbled.

David, er Three, made eye contact with Chris.

The youngest held the contact for the first time.

"He just signed your death sentence, Chris," David muttered, cruely.

The youngest felt his body go as cold as his bedroom floor.

As soon as the largest man took the first step, Chris was quick to push himself up, assuring his zip ties snapped as they quickly came in contact with a dresser handle. Immediately, Chris pulled the pepper spray from behind him and sprayed it, quickly.

If he made it out of this, he'd be sure to thank Tara for giving him the bright pink 'weapon'.

The two men called out in panic, their senses betraying them as the defensive spray made contact with their eyes.

Chris wildly shuffled and pushed himself against furniture as he made his way for the door.

Once he reached it, he quickly slammed it shut, after making sure he had locked it from the inside. Anything to slow his attackers down and allow him more time to get to safety.

Wild, fierce panic took over every cell in his body.

Pure adrenaline raced within his bloodstream.

A life or death situation was something he never knew he'd have the ability to feel. It wasn't like the movies. It wasn't sudden sweating. It was cold. Ice cold.

As he made it to the top of the stairs, he reached down and tried prying his ankles out of their tight restraints.

A thud against his bedroom door made his eyes snap away from his desperate task.

He decided to not waste the time or effort. He braced himself for his quick escape down the steps.

It ended as he had expected. His battered body thumped down the final three steps, his shaggy hair covering his bruised face as he slammed into the ground.

"Hey, what the hell!"

That was Two. Chris scrambled to move out of view and pushed himself against the wall. In the corner he had pushed himself into, his shoulder knocked into something. Chris clenched his teeth together at the searing pain that exploded in his ribs.

However, when he cracked them back open, he noticed he was leaning against a smaller pile of shoes his brother had left. Thankfully they weren't the cleanest. He noticed that one of the pairs were skates. Hockey skates.

Hope flooded through Chris' chest when his eyes made eye contact with the sharp tool.

The sound of snapping zip ties filled the air before a taller figure entered his line of view.

"What the fu-"

Chris blindly pushed the bottom of the sharp sports shoe upwards, the feeling of metal slicing skinning and cracking into bone vibrated through the influencers arm.

If it were any other circumstance, he would have been sick to his stomach at the sound.

A pained scream bellowed out of Two.

Matt and Nick were scrambling to stand, their hands still bound.

The youngest brother began taking in gulps of air as he crawled into a stance, b-lining for his siblings.

"Run! Fucking go!" Chris frantically waved his hands, practically pushing his older brothers to their lowest level steps.

Matt and Nick did their best to hop down the stairs, Chris doing his best to take hold of them as he was the only one completely free. Before they could make it, a gun went off.

The three brothers tumbled down the steps for what felt like the millionth time.

All three bodies came to an abrupt stop on the hardwood floor at the bottom.

A scream echoed through the home once more.
