~Chapter 2~

~Falyn Eyana~

*in the midst of editing, wattpad wasn't saving so i had to post*

I did not know how long I ran, my senses were all enhanced as if the Gods' had kissed me. My eyes could focus on the veins of the leaves as I ran; I could see every little detail of the ridges in the trees as if it were up close. I could taste the moisture in the air, I could hear the yelling of other soldiers in faraway villages, I could feel every particle in the dirt as my bare feet hit the ground. It was like magic except I had none. I was Falyn Eyana- Daughter of Lillian, head healer of the Lavender Witch's Village; an adopted child, a human orphan.

I kept running, the further away I progressed, the less chance I would be found.

It felt like I was soaring.

I was as light as air; as fast as lightning; as slick as water.

I thanked the Seven Gods.

It seemed I still had a part to play in this miserable world.

I stopped running when I reached a stream, my wounds needed to be washed for I could succumb to infection.

It was already a curse that I was born as a human in a Witch's village; disowned by my real parents who i had no memory of. I had no magic, no mana powerful enough to protect me against the common sickness. If I did become sick, the infection festered as fast as a snake. If I was hurt, I lay in bedridden for days.

I was weak.

I was irrevocably human.

I looked down at my leg and was surprised to find nothing. Shock hit me fast, and I fell to the ground in confusion. The skin there was immaculate, but just a few minutes before... I reached around to feel for my shoulder. No wound either. "Gods!" I exclaimed, my head suddenly heavy. The world began to spin once again and I stumbled over to a nearby tree, using it to balance my shaking form.

Everything became quiet as I closed my eyes, and opened them again, the feeling of light-weightiness gone, replaced with a headache so powerful my vision blackened  if i moved too quickly. My breath was laboured once again. "Gods...oh Gods" I cried.

Falyn...

the voice tinkled.

~

I woke up sweating, my hands still shaking. I felt disorientated and dazed, my head was pounding like a thousand drums of horse hooves.

As I raised my eyes slightly I locked eyes with a shadow in the trees. Long hair hung like vines, concealing the person's face. A female mayhap? There were not such men I knew with long hair.

As the wind trickled across the stream, the person's hair swayed, revealing glowing irises. My eyes met hers with a fierce connection. Icy blue and forest green. My eyes burned and it hurt to keep them open, but I would not let my guard down. She silently inspected me with those eyes of hers, it was definitely the gaze of an assassin for it sent shivers down my spine -suiting, for the freezing colour her eyes sported. Mother always told me stories about the assassins that were hired from the Royale Generals to run deadly, but inconspicuous errands for them. She told me that the assassin's were shells of whoever they used to be and that their gaze was as piercing and as terrifying as Vaggral itself.

"Who are you?"

I stuttered, standing up in a defensive position. The shadow cocked it's head to the side.

A predator and its prey.

"Come out from there!"

I rasped as bravely as I could. A whispering noise sounded in my head before a beautiful voice replaced it.

"The question is...who are you?"

The shadow floated down like a ghost but remained in the dark of the trees.

"Come out I say! What, what are you?"

"I will repeat it once, who are you?"

"Falyn Primrose! Daughter of Lillian Primrose of the Lavender Village that was destroyed by the Red Soldiers. Who are you?"

The shadow made no effort to move, it simply stood there.

"A-are you a ghost?"

A tinkling laughter was heard in my head.

"Mayhap I am"

"Show yourself!"

I said, glaring. A cold wind ruffled my tattered cloak as the sharp blue eyes narrowed abruptly.

"Are you an innocent or should I kill you?"

Icy fear wrapped around my whole body like a snake as I was pinned to the spot with that stare, the voice that changed from it's womanly tone to the venom. I shook my head vigorously.

Falyn, it is not safe...

"N-no! You don't understand, I was running from a Red Soldier! I swear on the 7 Gods above! I am a victim, spare me"

The shadow moved into the light slowly, cautiously.

Falyn... it is not safe.

I sucked in a breath as the most beautiful woman I have ever seen stepped into view. Her blue eyes were fitting with her alabaster skin, hair as dark as night flew gently in the wind. She would have passed for someone from Eshiko if it wasn't for her eyes. She was ethereally beautiful, like a Goddess. Falyn! She is dangerous. I told the voice to quiet down, I had no chance of escaping. I knew this woman could kill me with ease. It was her posture, the way she carried herself with a countenance of unbreakable ice. Killing would have been easy for such an inexpressive face.

"I am Crow, an Assassin of the Renegades"

"An assassin, for the Renegades? It is but a myth!"

"The Renegades, a myth? Miss Primrose, we are anything but myth"

I stared at the assassin in bewilderment. There were rumours of an underground force of Rebels that were plotting against the king - unbelievable since the King and his army were too powerful for a mere rumour. Crow simply shrugged, as if she could read my mind.

"Miss Primrose, no young girl- a human, has ever escaped the wrath of the blood-thirsty Soldiers, they are human but they have strength from brutal training"

"Well, now one has" I snorted contemptuously.

There was a hint of a smile on Crow's face before it was masked with an unreadable expression. I still couldn't comprehend that she was actually talking, without moving her mouth, but with her mind?

"Telepathy"

She whispered, a grin forming on her face. Now that I studied her more, she looked young, mayhap my age or a few seasons older. Her face was flawless and youthful, her frame slim but muscled- lean. She definitely was an assassin.

"Why do you speak this way?"

Silence settled between us as the air became suddenly tenser.

"Join the Renegades"

I blinked, an incredulous look crossed my face. The girl's words sounded more like an order, but why would she want me in the Renegades? It was by pure luck that I escaped...no something happened, like, a burst of energy that allowed me to run fast... Mayhap, Mother had charmed me with a spell; not that I knew anything about protection spells.

"If you don't, I will kill you, it is simple, you have seen me and I cannot trust you with our secret, join or die"

Ah, that was why she wanted me, not because I survived, or because I had a special skill. Crow looked somewhat bored as she locked eyes with me again, but I could feel the urge under her gaze. I thought to myself quietly, I had no home and my only family was gone... The rage burned under my skin, the Renegades were against the King, and now, so was I. But was it worth it? Training to kill? Is that my fate? Is that what the Gods lead me to? Killing, just like what the Red Soldiers were doing...no, I would be fighting the Red Soldiers- oppressing the King. The thought of revenge was a sickening desire, I lusted for it, the King and his army murdered enough innocents.

Falyn...

The voice trailed off, almost in confusion. She was debating, I had no time to let her ponder. Crow interrupted my thoughts again, her invasion irritated me, her voice seeping into my mind.

"I humbly accept your proposition... only because I want to live to see the King's end, he has ruled long enough...far too long"

"That's the spirit"

Crow whispered, cracking her knuckles.

"The camp is a day away, are you up for the challenge Lie Fiora ?"

"What tongue is that you are speaking? It sounds somewhat Elven"

Crow only gave the slightest shrug before she began to run.

Falyn, run.

And so I did, I followed after the flowing black locks in the distance.
