CHAPTER SIX
"Where are we going?" Nyx asks again, almost whining, from the passenger seat of the Impala, and Dean chuckles as he glances over at her.
"You'll see when we get there." He says, and she narrows her eyes at him. "Have patience."
"Can't. Your children used it all."
"Why are they automatically mine the second that they start fighting?" He questions, and she smiles.
"'Cause they get it from you." She says, and he shakes his head.
"No, they started fighting because Ever hit him. That's why he screamed like that. And she definitely gets the hitting from you." He argues, and her eyebrows furrow.
"Um, excuse me, Mr. Hunter, but you've been violent a lot longer than I have." She says. "I learned it from you too."
"I may have taught it to you, but you're the one who passed it on to our daughter." He smirks as he glances at her again.
"Whatever helps you sleep at night, buddy."
"You wanna know what helps me sleep at night?"
"Mind out of the gutter, Winchester."
"Hey, I was just gonna say having you next to me. You're the one who made it dirty." He argues.
"Mhm." She shakes her head, and he laughs as he parks the car. "What the..."
"So, it's not my most original date idea, but I knew that it'd make you happy, so..." He says, and she smiles as she looks from the club to him.
"Just me?" She questions. "I remember what you told me. You can't lie to me." She says, and he smirks.
"Well, what are you waiting for? Get out of the car." He says as he opens his door.
They both get out of the Impala, and Nyx quickly walks over to him. Dean holds his arm out and he wraps it around her as they walk toward the entrance of the club. They make it in and walk over to the bar. He orders two sodas, and she looks up at him.
"You don't have to do that." She calls over the music, and he shakes his head.
"You can't, so I'm not. Not tonight." He tells her, and she smiles.
They only stay at the bar talking for a few minutes with their sodas before moving over to the dancefloor. It reminds them both a lot of the beginning of their relationship.
Nyx's back is to him, and his hands are on her hips as they move to the music. He then pulls her body against his, and she smiles as she continues dancing. Her hips are moving to the beat of the music that the DJ's playing, and Dean's staying in sync with her.
She turns to face him and her hands end up on his chest as his move to the small of her back, keeping her close to him. She looks up at him, finding that he's already been watching her. She smiles as her hands move up so that she can lace her fingers together behind his head. He then lowers his head so that it's closer to hers, and she stretches up to place a quick kiss on his lips.
—
"Thank you." Nyx says with a smile on her face, and Dean looks at her.
"For what?"
"For being so damn amazing." She says, and he smiles.
"Anything for you." He says, and she chuckles as she looks at him.
They're sitting in a diner now. Nyx is sitting with her back against the wall, and her legs are across Dean's lap. She intertwines her fingers with his and their hands rest on her lap. She smiles as she watches him.
"Didn't anyone ever tell you that it's rude to stare at people while they eat?" He asks, and she nods.
"Mhm." She smirks. "But I was also taught not to trust strangers, and definitely to never get in their car. Turns out, I've never followed the rules when it comes to you."
"Well, I like the sound of that." He says, and she laughs.
"You know, you're the only boyfriend of mine that I could ever convince to dance with me." She tells him. "Tyler always refused at parties, and Stefan hates dancing so I never even asked. Plus, by the time I dated him..." She shakes her head. "Dancing with anyone else — it just didn't seem right."
"Well, I'm glad that I'm the only one that you could sucker into it." He says, and she pushes him lightly.
"Don't be an ass."
"I'm not. I mean it." He tells her, and she smiles. "I'll take you dancing anytime. Hell, I'll turn on some music at the motel. I'll dance with you right there."
Nyx laughs. "Who would've thought?"
"Hm?"
"That that hard-headed jackass I met almost four years ago could turn into this?" She's still smiling as she looks at him.
"And what's this exactly?" He asks.
"The sweetest guy that I have ever dated. A jungle gym for our babies." She chuckles, and he smiles. "The love of my life."
"Mm." His smile widens. "Still the best damn job I ever worked." He says and then leans toward her. She moves toward him and presses a kiss to his lips. "I love you."
"I love you too." She smiles.
"Can I ask you something?" He asks as he sits up straight, and she nods. "You and Elena have been working on your powers for a few weeks now."
"Yes, we have."
"Do you really think that you two can stop Lilith?"
"I do." She nods. "That's not to say it won't be hard, but... We'll do it." She tells him.
He nods as he looks down at the pie on his plate. He starts pushing it around with his fork, and she watches him for a second. Nyx takes a deep breath and then scoots closer to him. Her legs are no longer across his lap, but she's still facing him. He lets go of her hand and wraps his arm around her, resting his hand on the small of her back, but he doesn't look back at her.
"I will stop her." She says, her voice low. She rests her hand on the back of his head, and her fingers move slowly through his hair. "Lilith is not gonna set Lucifer free. So, you can stop blaming yourself for all of this. Me and Elena are gonna stop her. Dean, I promise."
"This is my fault." He says, and she shakes her head.
"It's not." She argues. "It is not your fault that you couldn't take it anymore. Nobody in your position would've turned down getting out of it for as long as you did."
"My dad did. He did it for longer."
"Look, no offense to your dad, 'cause I did like him, but he's not the role model that you want." She says, and he sighs as he leans back, dropping his fork and resting his hand in his lap. "Baby, your dad... He was already broken long before he died. And I know that's probably the last thing that you wanna hear, but it's true. There was nothing that Alistair could do to hurt him more than he was when your mom died.
"He made his peace when he saved you, and after that... No demon could undo it." She says, and he looks at her. "You're not your father, and that's nothing to be ashamed of. He'd be proud of you for the man that you are."
"You really believe that?" He asks, and she nods.
"I really do." She tells him. "He told Sam once that this wasn't the life he wanted for either of you. That the day you both were born, he started a savings for each of you. It was supposed to be a college fund. He didn't want you to be hunters, and he sure as hell didn't want you to be tortured for thirty years by some demonic son of a bitch that used you for their own gain. So, don't think for one second that he'd be disappointed in you, 'cause you're wrong about that."
"I don't know what I'd do without you." He says as he leans over and rests his forehead against hers.
"I'm just trying to live up to what your dad thought of me." She says, and he pulls back to look at her.
"What are you talking about?"
"I told you that the last thing your dad ever said to me was that you deserved the best." She reminds him, and he nods. "He said that I was the best thing that's ever happened to you. I'm just trying to prove him at least half right." She says, and a small smile crosses his lips as he looks at her.
"Not half. He was exactly right." He says, and she smiles as he leans over and kisses her.
