Chapter 55

Willowpaw looked down at her paws, she didn't think she would ever be able to meet somebody's eye again. She heard the ThunderClan cats leaving and wanted to curl into a ball and cry. She wanted to hide from the world. Hide from everything.
"I can't believe you would do that...," said Gorsestar under his breath. "Anyways, I hope you really reflect on what you did. And I hope that this punishment will let you think about what you did and that you will repent." Willowpaw couldn't even manage a nod. She was so ashamed. So embarrassed. So sad. Brownclaw stood not too far off, a look of disappointment and hurt on his face. Mintspot was beside Gorsestar, her eyes blazing with fury, disappointment and every bad emotion in the world. At least, that's what Willowpaw told herself.
"You may go," Gorsestar said. Willowpaw turned around and almost sprinted to the apprentice den. The other apprentices were there, ready to make fun of her.
"You coward!" howled Snailpaw with laughter. Snowpaw and Dovepaw chuckled and taunted Willowpaw as she snuggled into her nest.
"Leave her alone!" yelled Acornpaw, trotting to Willowpaw's side. He lay down beside her and tapped her on the back.
               "Loser!" snapped Snailpaw.
"Willowpaw. Don't listen to them. Why did you run away?" asked Acornpaw.
"I don't know...," sniffed Willowpaw. "Why don't you just go away?"
"You're my best friend. Your punishment's not too bad," Acornpaw said. "Once, Snailpaw had to clean ticks off the elders for two moons, non stop."
"But his lessons weren't taken away from him!" sighed Willowpaw. "Brownclaw is so disappointed. He really thought he'd be able to train me to be a good warrior."
"Of course he can!" exclaimed Acornpaw. "You're going to be a good warrior. Just because you don't have training for half a moon and you're not allowed to go out doesn't mean train. You can train with me."
                 "Really?" asked Willowpaw.
                 "Yeah. I promise," promised Acornpaw.
"You'll train with me?" Willowpaw asked once more.
                  "Yeah," assured Acornpaw.
"Thank you," Willowpaw managed a small smile. Acornpaw was like the light in her dark world. She couldn't help but feel so happy when she was around him, so grateful.
"Thanks for being there for me," whispered Willowpaw.
                  "Always," swore Acornpaw.
