Chapter 20

Rook followed Domino, weaving through the tall sunflower stalks.
"Look, I don't know what's making you want to do this, but you don't have to. We can never go back to the farm if you want," Rook said.
"I'm not going to change my mind," Domino sighed. "Don't worry." They finally reached the end of the field. Rook glanced around. The place was quiet. Then Missing tail cat appeared. Rook tensed. Missing tail cat looked ready to fight. His scratches from the fight with Rook were gone and except for the missing tail, he would have been scarless.
"Domino, Rook, I'm glad to see you. Is it about my friends?" Missing tail cat asked in a friendly tone.
"Yes, we've decided we will help you. Unless they're already dead?" Domino said bravely. Rook was slightly surprised at his tone.
"They are not. Thank you for your help," said Missing tail cat. "I knew you would come. I'm glad you healed well Rook. I knew you would. Your humans brought you to the vet, didn't they?"
"Where did you go? To the vet as well?" asked Rook.
"I heal quick," shrugged Missing tail cat. "Did you really think I would be so easy to fight? Ha. I let you win. If I'd battered you there would be no more chance of you helping me." Domino raised his eyebrow. Rook was dumbfounded, lost for words. He didn't know what to say.
"Y-you let me win?" spluttered Rook.
"Of course. You're still a kitten. How strong . did you think you were?" laughed Missing tail cat. Rook didn't know what to believe. Of course, what missing tail cat said was true. Rook was only three months old and much smaller. Rook glanced at Domino who shrugged.
"Alright, so we will help you, in exchange for information. About the Clans. Where Rook came from," continued Domino.
"Yes, I said that, didn't I?" nodded Missing tail cat.
                "What's your name?" Rook asked.
"Ah, finally," laughed Missing tail cat.
"What is it, you've never told us," Rook pushed. He was slightly sour that Missing tail cat had pretended to lose the fight.
"Yeah, we just called you Missing tail cat," agreed Domino. Missing tail cat laughed once more.
"I'm Charles," he said poshly, dipping his head slightly. Rook and Domino stared. "Ha. I'm just kidding. Imagine. Charles, what a funny name." Rook grimaced.
"So what's your real name?" frowned Domino.
"I'm Hades," the cat said, his eyes fixed on the two young cats. "
"Hades... Saffanah talked about that once. She learnt about it in school. Isn't it like the God of fire or something?" frowned Rook.
"God of the dead and king of the underworld," replied Hades, showing his teeth. "Loove it."
"Oki...., so did like your humans name you? Or your parents?" asked Domino.
"Humans?" huffed Hades. "I have no humans. I named myself. Before that, my parents named me of course. I'm not telling you what I was called before. All you have to know is the me now." Hades narrowed his eyes. "Right, let's get to the farm." Hades marched towards the farm, Domino and Rook in tow.
"You still think this is a good idea? This guy's named after the God of Death!" Rook muttered underneath his breath. "And I didn't even beat him. He was pretending."
"Maybe he's just saying he was pretending," Domino put in although they both knew that was not true.
                   "Domino..," Rook sighed.
"Look, I really do think it's a good idea," Domino said. "You don't need to do this. We can turn back. I'll do it. I'll do it for you."
"It's fine. If you're sure. I'll do it," Rook said firmly. He pushed all his insecurities away. Hades turned his head.
"Stop it with the hushed talking. Get moving," he ordered. Rook rolled his eyes.
"Stop ordering us about. We can just turn around," Rook muttered.
"Then by all means, do," Hades snapped.
"You realised you're the one who needs help, right?" Rook raised an eyebrow.
"Yes but not from a complaining annoying cat. I thought you'd be alright. Domino and I would be just fine, if you want to go," Hades retorted. Rook glanced at Domino who shook his head.
"I never said I wanted to go," huffed Rook. "What's your plan, anyways?"
"Plan? Haven't made one up yet," shrugged Hades.
"Well, we better make one!" exclaimed Rook.
"We'll do it when we get there," shrugged Hades, not looking too concerned.
"On our way there why don't you tell us about the Clans?" suggested Domino.
"Sure whatever," shrugged Hades. "There are four Clans. ThunderClan, ShadowClan, RiverClan and WindClan. ThunderClan are the brave ones. ShadowClan are the stealthy ones. RiverClan is known for swimming and WindClan are known for their swiftness."
"Clans of cats?" Rook asked. Hades rolled his eyes.
"Yes, of course," he said obviously.
"Do they get along?" asked Domino.
"Will you let me finish?" snapped back Hades. "They each have their bit of territory. Their bit of forest. There are borders and they mark it. Sometimes, they will fight if another Clan cat crosses it. Each Clan is loyal to their own Clan. No helping cats from another Clan."
"Woah...," Rook muttered. He thought about WindClan. He imagined his parents, strong cats, fighting ThunderClan, ShadowClan and RiverClan cats.
"There is a hierarchy in the Clan," continued Hades. They had reached the farm. The fence was planted in front of them. They slipped underneath and went silent. Humans were conversing on the front porch. Hades led them behind the farmhouse and towards the stable and barn. Rook and Domino kept low to the ground, going quietly and swiftly. The didn't take the path this time. They trotted on the long unkept grasses. They peered through some weeds to the stable and barn.
"What's our plan?" asked Rook under his breath.
"Yeah. How are we getting in?" nodded Domino. Hades frowned.
"I'm thinking about it," he huffed.
"Didn't you already think about it?" accused Rook.
"No. I was talking to you about the Clans. You were bombarding me with questions," retorted Hades. "Let's go in. Improvise. "
"No. We're not doing that," Rook said firmly. "We need a plan. A plan that won't get us trapped in that barn. A plan that won't get us killed. We're not going to improvise. We'll sit out here till you, or one of us, comes up with a decent plan." Rook didn't know why he was suddenly being so bossy but he did not want to jump straight into the danger once more. He had done it once. He was not going to make the same mistake again. Domino agreed with Rook. He was glad to have Rook with him.
"Alright," said Hades slowly, narrowing his eyes at Rook. "I'll think of a plan."
