The dreaded tryouts
"Cheyenne do I have to this."
"Yes if you want to show Jack some love." Cheyenne whispered. "Now show some school spirit!" She handed me some pom poms.
"Okay. Gimme a 'N', gimme an 'O'. What does that spell?" Cheyenne sighed.
"Hey guys!" We turned to see Jazmin.
"Oh hey Jazmin. What's up. How have ya been?" Cheyenne asked.
"Great! I made some friends so you don't have to worry about me. What about you guys? How's... Jack right?" Jazmin asked.
"We're fine and Jack's good. And we're only here because Grace wants to spend more time." Cheyenne answered. She nudged my elbow.
"Oh. Is Jack on the team or something?" She asked.
"Oh no. He's on the football team." Cheyenne answered. "All my plans are going great. Jace will sail in no time."
"Yeah!" She cheered. Some people stared at her. "What? I'm just showing school spirit people."
"Okay girls. I'm Lou, the leader and a senior. So who's ready to try out!" Some people murmured a response. "Girls's have you forgotten this is Cheer leading. Show some enthusiasm!" Everyone yelled a response. "Much better. Now any questions before we begin?" A girl raised her hand. "Yes."
"Is is true that three girls broke theirs arm while doing the pyramid?" She asked. Lou chuckled.
"Ha. I don't know where you heard that rumor from." I let out a breath of relief. "It was four." What the heck! Four girls were injured while doing the pyramid. I wonder if I can still catch the bus.
"Don't even think about it Grace." This girl must be psychic.
"Anymore questions?" Lou asked. I raised my hand. "Yes."
"We're not doing the pyramid right."
"Ha. Of course we are! Now everyone spread out!" We spread out. Cheyenne and Jazmin stood on both sides of me.
We did some stretches and some moves and if you ask me I did great. I didn't know my body could move the way it did. By the time we were done I was out of breath, sweaty and dreading what I knew was next. Lou didn't crack a sweat while doing the exercise and to top it off she was even more peppy than before.
"That was fun!" Fun? She must be crazy. "Now it's time for the really fun part!" Oh God. "Time for the pyramid!" Many girls groaned.
"Hey. Come on girls. You gotta be more cheery than that. By the way all you that just groaned do us a favor and make your way to exit." She said all of that with a smile on her face. I'd hate to be on her bad side. About half of the girls had been kicked out so there was just six of us left. The perfect number to make a pyramid. Lou pointed to three girls and told the to be on the bottom. She pointed to Cheyenne and Jazmin to be the middle. Oh no. She pointed to me. "I want you to be on top." God, I'll be seeing you in heaven soon. Everyone just stood there."Hop to it girls!" Lou barked. We scurried into place. All the girls were in position. Now it was time for me to climb on top and stand... without falling. I took a deep breath. 'God, look you already know I'm only doing to spend time with a guy. I was just wondering, do think I should make a sprint for the door because I don't feel like breaking my arm today. Yes or no answer please...... "Oh okay no answer works too!" The girls looked up at me. "Um sorry just giving myself a pep. 'You can do it Grace. No excuses!' Ha ha."
"Hurry it up Grace these girls can't wait much longer." Lou was getting impatient. Well this is it. I'm going to climb up there. Fall. Break my arm. Miss school and my chance to get closer to Jack. I hope I break my left hand and not my right. Writing would be really hard. 'Stop think so negative!' I told myself. 'Get up there and just do your best and hope clumsy's woke up on the right side of the bed today' I took a deep breath and climbed up to the top (In other words stepped on some butts) I tried to stand up. Oh no. The girls on the bottom were getting tired. The pyramid was wobbling. This is not going to be good. I should just stop. If I try to stand up, I will definitely fall and by the way this pyramid is wobbling, this is not going to be pretty.
Lou's eyes stared intently at me. She stared at me with the same gaze Mom would give me when she challenged me. I never step down from a challenge. I tried to stand up again. The wobbling even stronger, but I was determined. I stretched out my arms and stood up one knee then two knees and finally I was standing. But not for long. A girl on the bottom gave out sending me tumbling. I blacked out. When I awoke, all the girls were surrounding me. Jazmin and Cheyenne stood on both sides of me.
"Are you okay. Can you stand up? Does anything hurt and where?" Cheyenne asked as if she were the nurse.
"I'm alive. I'm breathing. I'm fine. My back hurts a little, but it's fine." I stood up and checked myself for any bruise. None. I moved my arms. No pain. Oh thank God. I'm alright. "I'm good."
"That was a nasty fall are you sure you're okay." Jazmin asked.
"Well I'm fine right now." Lou wrote something on her clipboard.
"Well that's the end of tryouts. Okay, here's who made the team: Grace, Jazmin, Cheyenne and Anna." Anna? whose Anna?
"Yay! I made the team!" Her jet black hair bounced up and down and she jumped up and down. I suppose that's Anna. She was... pretty and she looked genuinely happy that she made the team... to me.
~~~~~~~~~~~
"Anna seemed like a nice girl. We should become friends with her."
"What!" Cheyenne spat. "She is very... very far from nice. She may look nice right now but I'm telling you if you are on the wrong side she eat you up and spit you out for breakfast. Befriending her is a bad idea." Cheyenne whispered. She didn't want the other people on the late bus to hear her.
"Cheyenne's right." Jazmin spoke up. " I've only been her a few weeks, but I could tell Anna was trouble. I have a couple classes with her. On the first week I got here, she had a big fight with some girl so she spread some nasty rumors about her and now that girl is fixing to move schools. The rumors were that bad. You shouldn't talk to that girl. She brings a whole new meaning to trouble."
"Come on guys. Have ya'll ever said a word to her? She can't be that bad."
"Grace, she is that bad. Like Jazmin said, 'She brings a whole new meaning to bad.' I don't need to talk to her to know she bad news. Don't talk to her Grace." Cheyenne warned.
"Fine." Like I won't talk to her. I like making friends. It's my thing, but I'm not an extrovert.
A/N: I'm really, really sorry this chapter was late. I restarted and I had a busy weekend, but I've finished and had time to make it good. Hope you liked it!
