I've heard they smash

the teeth 

tear out the claws of cats with pliers 

then fling the damaged bundles  

still spitting defiance 

among baying greyhounds 

that snatch and tear 

stiff tailed 

eager 

their tendoned legs a-bulge 

their foaming muzzles loose with desire.

It's called blooding. 

It's illegal. 

It happens.

So I'm told.
