Chapter 7
[Chapter 7]
Nixon and I have been ignoring each other the whole afternoon. I didn't want to see him after that little stunt he pulled during breakfast anyways. I stayed locked up in the guest room all afternoon, afraid that if I leave, I'll run into him again and he'll most likely try putting me into another chokehold. And I can still feel his fingers digging into my skin. I may seem overdramatic about this, but it's true.
When I left the dining room, I immediately went up to the room I was staying in and checked myself in the mirror. There were bruises where his fingers dug in around my neck. Artemis has been quiet all day, probably stunned. I was too.
Now I'm slumped on the floor over by the window. I was staring out the large window that gave me a nice view of the snow-capped mountains off in the distance. Blue covered the sky with just a couple puffy, white clouds scattered across the sky. Birds flew to different trees, chirping amongst each other. I even spotted a couple of deer at the entrance of the forest.
The loud rumble coming from my stomach snapped me out of my daze. I placed my hand on my tummy as I began to feel hungry. Getting up, I walked over to the door and slowly opened it. I peeked out to see if the coast was clear. When I didn't see him, I tip toed down the stairs. I winced when I heard one of the steps creak, but quickly and quietly made it all the way down and into the kitchen.
I almost sighed in relief when I made it into the kitchen, but immediately froze when I saw Nixon digging in the fridge. I stood there a few seconds, admiring the way his muscles flexed when he went to reach for something. When I snapped out of it, I wanted to mentally punch myself in the face for staring at him even if he is my mate. I was about to turn around and make a break towards the stairs, but the sound of him closing the door to the refrigerator and clearing his throat stopped me. I looked over my shoulder and saw him staring at me.
"Sit." he ordered. I crossed my arms across my chest and scowled at him.
"What am I? Your pet dog?" I snapped.
His jaw ticked in anger but he sucked in a deep breath to hold back his anger. "Please, sit down." he gritted out. I slowly walked towards one of the chairs at the island table and sat down, not because he told me to, but because I wanted to. I was hungry anyways.
On the counter in front of me was a sandwich, sitting on a plate. I stared at it, wondering if it was for me. "Eat." he told me and pointed to the plate in front of me, confirming my thoughts. I eyed it and lifted the bread up to see what's inside. I'm not being picky or anything, but who knows what he could've done to it. I sniffed it, making sure he didn't put some kind of poison or drug in it.
"Are you picky too? It's just a sandwich." I rolled my eyes and took a bite of it. It tasted like a normal sandwich, maybe slightly better. But of course I wouldn't say anything to him. I could taste the Provolone cheese, mayo, lettuce, and turkey. Nixon stared at me the whole time I was eating. When I finished, he took it over to the sink and began washing it.
"I'm going to go for a run." I told him as I started to get up.
"No you're not." He said as he began drying the plate with a towel.
Are you kidding me?
"Um...Yes I am. You're not the boss of me. If me running away is what you're afraid of, do you honestly think I'll do that? You already know where I live so it's no doubt that you'll go back to kidnap me again. You'll probably murder my family along the way." My voice wavered a bit at the last sentence because I knew he was capable of doing it.
"You're not going." he stated as if he hadn't heard what I'd just said. I quickly stood up from the chair.
"What's the deal? You brought me here. What's the point of me being here? Stay up in my room for the rest of my life?!" my voice began to raise. "Can't I at least go for a run? If it worries so much, you can just come with me."
He looked like he was about to oblige but then something held him back. "No. If I say no, it's no." His voice was low. He held my eyes for a few seconds before turning towards the door. He was about to leave, but I grabbed his wrist. The electrical sparks caused my hand to tingle, but I ignored them.
"Please." I begged. "My wolf is getting upset because she hasn't been let out in a couple of days. She really needs to get let out." It was true, Artemis has been complaining about how she needed to get out. I normally go for a run every night, but I obviously couldn't yesterday.
Nixon sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose with his thumb and index finger. "Fine." he sighed. "But I'm sending my best warrior with you." My face dropped slightly. Even though Nixon's an asshole I kind of wanted him to come with me. Both Artemis and I wanted to see his wolf. He's probably huge and beautiful just like his human form.
I quickly allowed a smile to make it's way onto my face. I jumped up and down in excitement. I honestly didn't think he would agree!
I wrapped my arms around his neck and gave him a quick hug. I could feel the heat and his scent radiating from his body. His body stiffened under my touch. His hands went up to my own and unwrapped them from his neck. Cold air slapped against my body when he stepped back. I tried ignored to ignore the hurt feeling that washed over me.
He continued to hold my hands in his as he stared at me.
"Don't try and pull anything." he warned. "Because I wouldn't mind having to kill everyone on Earth if it meant getting you back." I didn't know how I was suppose to feel about his threat. Wanted or intimidated.
His eyes fogged up so I'm assuming he's mind-linking someone. When his eyes went back to their normal green, he glanced down at our hands. I quickly pulled my hands out of his and took a few steps back.
We stayed silent until we heard a knock on the front door. Nixon went over to the door and opened it. "Alpha." I heard a deep voice that sounded kind of familiar.
"Trinity." Nixon called me over. My heart skipped a beat. The sound of my name rolling off off the tip of his tongue caught me off guard. His deep voice rang through my head, replaying over and over again. When did I ever tell him my name? Is he a stalker or something?
Well he did know where I lived....
I walked over to where Nixon was standing. My eyes widened when I saw the man in front of me. He was tall, not as tall as Nixon, but over 6 feet. He had short, wavy blonde hair that sat on the top of his head. The sides of his head were shaved a little. His grey eyes stared at me, recognition swirling in them.
"Caden?" my voice was barely above a whisper. He was seventeen the last time I saw him. He looked a little more mature than the goofball he was four years ago. He used to have curly blonde hair that stuck out in different directions, it looked cute. Now, his hair wasn't as curly and it was more tamed. And he had a little stubble growing too. I would be lying if I said he didn't look hot, because he does. He was wearing a grey tee that had the sleeves cut off a bit to look like a tank top, showing off his biceps, and a pair of black athletic shorts.
The corners of his lips curled up into a smile. "Trinity." he breathed out as he stared at me in shock. I released a squeal as I ran up to him and jumped on him. My arms went around his neck and his arms went around my waist, embracing me into a bear hug. "I missed you so much!" he mumbled into my hair.
I felt a lump form in my throat, but I held it in. "I thought you were dead." I whispered, pulling away slightly so that I could look at him.
"C'mon, do you honestly think I'll die that easily?" he teased as he allowed his hands to sit on my hips.
A loud growl from behind us erupted as I felt Caden being ripped away from me. I gasped when I saw Nixon shoving Caden into the door. "You'll be dead in seconds if you ever touch her again." he barked at him. Fear flashed across Caden's face as he quickly nodded in submission, "Yes, Alpha." Nixon gave him one more shove before turning to me. He stepped towards me so that my face was practically touching his chest. His eyes were no longer their emerald green color, but a red. And it wasn't just the iris, it was his whole eye.
He leaned over slightly so that his nose was inches away from me and he gripped my chin, forcing me to look up at him. "Don't touch any other male. No matter who they are. Unmated or mated. I don't care. You're mine and mine only." he growled. His hot breath fanned across my face and I felt my legs turn to jello.
I composed myself and scoffed at what he said. "You sure don't act like I'm your's." I muttered under my breath.
"What was that?" he asked.
"Nothing...." I gritted. Nixon knew that I was lying but didn't press on further. He released my chin and took a step back. He glanced at Caden, who was still in fear of his Alpha.
"Be back by six. If you are one second late, there will be some consequences." He said, eyeing me. Then he looked at Caden, "And if you do anything to her, I won't hesitate ripping your head off with my bare hands and shoving it up your ass." I cringed at what he said.
Is he serious? Of course he is.
"Now get out before I change my mind." he waved us off before pivoting on his heel and disappearing down the hallway, leaving us at the entryway. I turned to Caden who was still in shock and I smiled at him.
We both walked over to the door and he opened it, allowing me to go out first. He closed the door behind us and we started making our way towards the forest in silence. "Sorry about him...." I apologized.
"Don't be. It's my fault. I shouldn't have touched you." He replied.
"You didn't know."
When we reached the entrance of the forest, we both went behind trees to take off our clothes. I tied my clothes around my ankle before shifting. I allowed Artemis to take over my body.
Sandy fur started poking out of my skin, my bones reshaped themselves, and my teeth began to grow into canines.
Once I was fully shifted into my wolf form, I stretched my limbs before walking out from behind the tree. A big, reddish-brown wolf stood by the tree across from me.
I walked up to him and he flashed me a wolfy grin. He nodded his head in the direction of the path. We both took off running.
Green blurred passed us as he ran. Our paws thumped against the ground. The smell of pine trees and grass blew passed my nose. I breathed in deeply, enjoying the smell of nature. It felt so nice being able to let my wolf free. It was so tempting to go back to my pack, but I knew that Caden would catch up to me and Nixon would get me back.
Our senses were really strong and I knew that he would be able to find me because of my scent. So I'm basically stuck here for the rest of my life.
After an hour or so of running, we stopped at a clearing. It was an empty meadow with tall trees circling around it. I shifted back into my human self, leaving me bare. I knew Caden was able to see me naked, but I didn't really care. I untied my clothes and slipped them on. I sat down on the ground and laid back so that I was staring up at the blue sky above me.
Caden came and laid next to me. We stay silent as the sound of birds chirping and bees buzzing filled our ears. "Alpha Nixon isn't that bad you know." Caden told me.
"He almost killed you, Caden." I pointed out with a frown.
Caden chuckled. "Well I was touching his mate. If some male touched my mate, I would do the same thing."
I released a small laugh. "Who's your mate?" I asked in curiosity.
His smile turned down into a frown. He sighed as he stared up. "I....I don't know.... I wish I knew. I haven't found her yet."
I placed my hand on his arm. "You will see her soon. I can feel it. Don't worry, I'm sure she's around here somewhere."
"I hope you're right...." He mumbled.
Caden kept quiet after that. I'm guessing he's just imagining how great his mate will be. Probably picturing her in his mind. I let out a small sigh as I thought about my mate. I wish he would love me like he's suppose to. He does anything but that. He kidnaps me, doesn't let me do anything—this is only a one-time thing, and he doesn't know how to be nice. Plus he physically hurt me earlier.
He obviously doesn't want me if he doesn't care for me like mates are normally suppose to. He probably only took me because it's almost impossible to live without your mate. Either that or his wolf wanted me.
Werewolves' wolves are more attached to their mates than the actual person in my opinion. Artemis seems to like Nixon when he's not being an asswipe. I just hate him.
"Like I said before, Alpha Nixon isn't as bad as you think." Caden said. "He has his reasons."
I rolled my eyes even though I knew what he was saying was true. I've heard some pretty nasty rumors about him. Some went as far as him getting abused by his parents and pack members. That he used to be an omega when he was little and was disowned by his parents. Some said that he got rejected by his mate, but I know that that one wasn't true if I'm his mate. Unless he has two mates and I'm the second one. But that's rare. Only royals can have two mates.
I wasn't sure if all of the rumors were true, but I knew something bad must've happened to him. Most people who acts this way went through something pretty bad.
"Yeah, I know." I sighed. "But I'm his mate. He shouldn't act this way towards me."
Caden sat up to look at me. "Give him some time. I know he'll open up to you."
I scoffed. The hell he will. "How come you're defending him. Last time I checked, he captured you when he attacked our pack."
"When he captured me, he took me to the cells. Let me tell you, the cells are horrendous. They were so disgusting that I almost killed myself when I was stuck down there for a year. After the year was up, they came back to get me. They were surprised that I was actually still alive because normally their prisoners die beforehand."
"Alpha Nixon realized how strong I was when they started allowing me to train with all of the other wolves. So he allowed me to either spend the rest of my life in the cells or join the pack. Of course I chose the latter because spending a year in the cells was like living in hell."
"After I joined the pack, he appointed me as a warrior because of my strength. After a year of fighting, everyone saw my strength and tactics, so they appointed me as their head warrior. You know, basically the leader of all the warriors. I was very surprised that Alpha Nixon did this for me considering the fact that I was from a pack that he attacked and held captive. I expected to live in terrible conditions for the rest of my life. That's what I thought when I was in the cells. It was such an honor becoming the head warrior because head warrior is a high rank. Just below the delta. I adapted to the knew living conditions and I realized that it wasn't so bad."
I was honestly surprised that he was head warrior. I didn't expect Nixon to be so generous towards his prisoners. But then again, Caden's probably the only one he's ever been nice to.
"So how's Jaylon and Kiera?" Caden asked. I looked over at him as I sat up.
"I don't know. They were good a couple days ago when I was with them, but now I'm not so sure. Jaylon seemed broken after you were taken. He wouldn't leave his room for weeks and your parents couldn't get him out. Your parents were so worried and so were the rest of the pack members. After the attack, the ones who weren't killed became rogues. Luckily my father knew Alpha Trystan, the Alpha of the Moonwater pack, so we were able to join their pack." I answered.
I saw his eyes become glossy as a tear slipped down his eye. "I miss them so damn much." he whispered.
"Me too." My lips quivered as I fought the lump that was making an appearance in my throat while holding back the tears that were threatening to fall.
"Come here." he whispered as he opened his arms. Without hesitating, I scooted next to him and allowed his arms to embrace me. Caden had always been like an older brother to me. "It's going to be okay." he assured.
I knew he was just trying to help, but it wasn't helping at all. "No it's not. I really miss my pack, my family, Kiera and Jaylon, and my nice warm bed." He pulled me closer so that I could rest my head on his shoulder.
We both stayed silent for a few more minutes until we decided that we should head back if we want to get back before six. It took us an hour to back to Nixon's house, a minute right before six.
I waved Caden 'goodbye' before entering the house. I jumped when I saw Nixon leaning against the wall in front of me. His green eyes were narrowed at me and his black hair was disheveled in a sexy way. His arms were crossed over his chest, allowing his biceps to bulge. Hot damn.....
It didn't help that he was wearing a black, sleeveless tee and pair of black athletic shorts either.
He took a step towards me. "Did he touch you?" he asked. I was a little shock that he didn't trust Caden around me. After what Caden said, I kind of expected there to be trust between the two. I rolled my eyes at him and walked away from him. I wanted to eat.
Entering the kitchen, I walked over to the pantry to see what was there. My eyes scanned over the different food items. Chips, bread, spices, cereal, cake and cookie mixes, and snacks. My eyes landed on a packet of Original Oreos. I immediately grabbed the packet and brought it to my chest.
A hand was placed right next to my head, on the door frame to the pantry. I looked from his hand and up his arm. My breath hitched when I felt his hot breath hit the side of my neck. I swallowed as I felt my insides become all fluttery. I shivered when I felt his lips lightly graze my ear as he spoke, "When I ask you a question, I expect you to answer."
"What if I don't?" I asked once I found my voice. I winced slightly when my voice kind of shook. I didn't want him to think that he was affecting me even if he wasn't.
He growled lowly in my ear. "You'll regret it." he replied.
Artemis began to purr while I shuddered. "How do you know I'll regret it?" I pressed on. I knew that I shouldn't have continued this conversation, but I did. He growled at me, not approving of my boldness. I rolled my eyes again and shoved him away from me. He stumbled back in surprise.
I placed my hands on my hips and glowered at him. "You may have the whole pack wrapped around you finger, but I refuse to listen to you. You may be my mate, but you'll never be my Alpha." I spat.
I walked over to the stairs and glanced over my shoulder. Nixon was staring at me in anger. His whole body was shaking with anger. I saw that he was advancing towards me, so I turned on my heel and began running up the stairs.
A squeal escaped my throat when I heard his feet pounding on the floor behind me.
Once I reached the top of the stairs, I darted down the hallway. I heard him behind me, but this time he was a lot closer than before. I smiled when I saw my bedroom at the end of the hallway.
When I reached it, I tried to slam the door but he easily caught it before it could close. I squealed again when he flashed me a predatory look. He took a step towards me. I looked around, trying to find a way to get away from him.
He smirked when he noticed that there was no way for me to escape. I gulped as I kept a distance from him. I quickly jumped over my bed as he made a move to grab me.
I laughed when he tripped and fell onto the floor.
I quickly made a move to leave, but I felt his hand grasp my leg. I released a yelp when my body fell onto the floor. When I tried to get up, Nixon grabbed my arm and yanked me back down.
I gasped when I was pushed onto my back. Nixon moved over so that he was straddling me. He placed both hands beside my head and leaned forward so that his face was inches away from mine.
His intoxicating scent consumed me. He was so close that I could see dark green, gold, and blue flecks in his mesmerizing emerald eyes. I didn't realize how long and thick his lashes are until now. I began to feel jealous. It's not fair how guys have beautiful eyelashes. His eyelashes cascaded shadows on his cheeks.
My wolf began placing crude images of my mate in my head. I growled at her in irritation and told her to quit it, but she didn't stop.
I squirmed under him. He smirked when he saw my flushed face. He squeezed my sides with his legs. Artemis seemed rather fond of this position while I, on the other hand, felt very uncomfortable with it.
"Nixon, get off of me!" I exclaimed as I tried to shove him off.
He growl at me. "Alpha." He corrected. I rolled my eyes in annoyance. Doesn't the fact that he's not my alpha get through his thick skull? Trystan is my Alpha and the Moonwater Pack will always be my pack.
"I wouldn't call you my Alpha even if it meant dying." I gritted through clenched teeth.
He frowned at me and pressed more of his weight on me. I was so confused as to why he was so arrogant that his mate didn't matter to him. All he cared about was being respected and obeyed by everyone no matter who they are. And that pisses me off.
He lifted one of his hands off of the floor and gently caressed my cheek. I was pretty surprised that he didn't hit me. But I guess that's a bit low even for him even though he tried choking me this morning.
He slowly ran the pad of his thumb over my lower lip. He stared at it intently and rolled the bottom of his lip into his mouth, biting it.
I have to admit, that was pretty damn hot. But my sanity was still present so I immediately looked away, not wanted him to catch me staring at his lips.
His hand went up to my hair and twisted a strand of my brown hair around his index finger. He smirked as he leaned a little more forward so that our noses were slightly grazing each other.
His eyes glanced down at my lips and then at my neck while his lips slightly parted. His throat made a croaking noise as his Adam's apple bobbed up and down.
My eyebrows knitted together in confusion when he closed his eyes and sucked in a deep breath. In a swift motion, he was off of me. I felt the cold air envelop me as if a bucket of icy water was dumped on me.
Sitting up, I stared up at him. He ran his fingers through his midnight hair as if he was having an argument with himself. I furrowed my eyebrows when he glanced at me.
His expression from a few moments ago was no longer there and was replaced by an emotionless one.
He cleared his throat. "I have some pack business I need to take care of." He informed, "Don't bother me." His voice sounded so cold that I almost shivered in fear.
Without saying anything, he turned and left. I sat on the floor for a good few minutes before going over to the bed and picking up the packet of Oreos that I dropped when I was jumping over the bed.
I opened it up and stuffed a whole Oreo in my mouth. Normally I would smile with delight as I devour the cookies, but this time I just frowned and it chewed slowly.
My mind was still processing what had just occurred between Nixon and I.
I tossed the packet on the table next to the bed. I'm not in the mood for Oreos even if they are my guilty pleasure. Those chocolate cookies with addictive cream filling are made and sent from heaven.
I laid on my back and stared up at the ceiling above me.
I've got one hell of a mate...
