Here and There

The bar seemed empty, besides the few passerby's but that doesn't seem to matter, not really. Behind the mahogany bar, rested the 22 year old bartender, hair tied up into a bun as his geeky t-shirt displayed loud and proud that he is indeed "nerdy." His doe eyes seemed to be amplified under the glasses that he wears, his face burning with what seems to be a sun burn? Or is it a normal burn? He doesn't exactly know. Odd right, not really once all the pieces are put together.

The bartender has previously went by the name of "Jeremy Gray", a third year college student who seems to get moderate grades and attendance. Why is this important you may ask? Why would someone just repeat back their own lives like this? Well, that's not him, nor will it ever be him.

My name is Kyle Leyrone, and I keep waking up in other people's bodies.

It started off going to a bookstore on Thomas avenue, three blocks away from where my home lies. It was a rustic yet traditional style, one that seemed to carry a sort of homey charm. The steps seemed to be wearing thin, the wood splintering up to the heavens as holes spread across the uneven surfaces.

In front of the store, this is where I come in! My name is Kyle, always go by Ky just for the sake of trying to sound cool I guess. I live in a moderate home, one with two loving parents and a older sister. I love my family, but at times they can be a bit.. much? Yeah. Family drama and all of that, well, if you can call family game night dramatic. I may love my family, but I am not getting caught up in the pillow-fights and bickering that may go back and forth.

So here I am, three blocks away from home at a bookstore, library looking place. Carefully, I had taken steps on the stairs , hoping to god that the stairs are still stable enough to apply any amounts of pressure to without crumbling and sending him to a very painful fall. Each step seemed to bring forth a cringe, I don't know why I was so scared of those steps, or even that building back in the day? Maybe it was the worn down appearance or the malevolent atmosphere it had. The tension was so thick, just from those earned stairs that I remember the ten minute goosebumps that followed.

Once past the stairs, there was a sign, a new sign from the looks of it, it had read, "Welcome to the Thomas avenue public library!" The words were in cursive, which was odd to me at the time but now it makes perfect sense why. It could have been something that was intentional or maybe it could have done with the fact that most of the avenue seemed archaic and in the process of collapse.

"A library? I don't remember a library being here?" I had questioned, rubbing my neck with his nails in order to just try and figure out why this building seemed to catch his interest. All the buildings here looked the same, graffiti scattering most of the buildings that had managed to stay up for their multitudes of generations. Yet this building had no touch of the infamous street art.

The metal was cold to the touch, fingers having seemed to catch what I could only imagine was a type of static electricity. And with a large tug, along with a few grunts of exhaustion in the process might I add, the troublesome door seemed to become unfastened and swung outwards, knocking my lanky form straight onto the wooden planks.

"OW!"

The smell, god, the smell. It was dank and foul. Gagging, my bloody hands seemed to make their way to block that god Awful stench. I don't remember why I walked in, but the smell seemed to get the best of me, the darkness falling around my vision, my body falling. One would expect to hit floor when you fall backwards, but no. I didn't hit anything. Nothing as my body continued to fall, going from a backwards fall to a head fall, eyes focusing down into the endless void that was being displayed.

Now one would think that could be the scariest part, falling from such heights with nothing but your erratic heartbeat to remind you that you are alive. No, it's the tingling sensations that seemed to pull at his limbs. It went from tingles to burns, to a clawing sensation that seemed to never stop. It burned so bad, the screams I yelled out caught in my mouth. It was so scary, like every-time I tried to scream, a beast would claw at my neck, marks ranging near my vocal cords to my chin. I felt so useless at the point, the pain becoming to much for my mind to handle. And as I watch the black silhouettes swarm closer to my body, my eyes finally closed completely.

- - -

"Ti—"

"Timmy are you..."

"Honey- Fine."

My eyes struggled to open, feeling heavy as the burning seemed to intensify. God it hurt so bad, it was like getting stabbed with hot blades all over, no limb excluded of course.

"Wake up. Please."

"Darling I don't think he will be awake for a while."

"It's been days .."

"I know."

The pain seemed to ease, just enough for the last few lines that I could catch to actually sink in. Who were those people, not in a rude way no, more so in the I don't know who these people are way. Why were they worrying, where they worrying about me? No. They shouldn't. They can't. Why would complete strangers try and worry about me? No, that just doesn't make any lick of sense.

"Do you think he will ever wake up..."

"Don't say that dear, of course he will wake up. Injuries from that accident can't exactly heal over night.."

Wait, injuries. That doesn't, again, make sense. This must a dream, everything must have been a dream and the two people speaking are my parents. Yeah, that's it. That has to be it, because.. what if this wasn't tho? I had to find a way to tell. A way to breach this endless darkness that confides my every thought and action. It was odd, I recall, the whole event of waking up the first time... it was like re-emerging from a cold pool of water, only to find that the air outside is even colder than the water is. Shivers cascaded down my body as the once heavy eyelids twitched, hands clutching against the metal frame of the bed I had been placed on. 'Come on Ky, come on, just focus. You can wake up from this nightmare, come on... just. Count to three. Maybe that will work.' If at that moment, my arms would have responded to give of the most repetitive face palms ever. That is so stupid, why would counting to three help.

Sooner or later, after many repetitions if the interval one to three, the veil lifted and the once blocked eyelids flashed open to a blinding light that burned at his Eyes.

"H-h-" he tried to speak, the words and tongue sounding foreign to him. He sounded so much more masculine than before? Which was odd at the time
Because I had the squeakiest voice for a teen, it was quite embarrassing.

"Charley! He's awake!", the outline of a woman seemed to blur its way besides the bed. "Oh my god Ty, it's been so long!" Sobs left the woman's mouth as she hugged the once sleeping male.

"Uh..."

"Where am I."

Hello everyone!
Names fantasy, and here is the first part to the Here and There series! I feel quite proud of this first part and now that I reread through it, I feel like it has some originality. Tho the thought of switching bodies is not a original idea, the idea of switching into more than one body seems like a grand idea! Even if it has been done before, I will be doing my own spin into it.
