Chapter 11
NO HATE INTENDED IN THIS CHAPTER. It is a story. I don't know anything about Harry's relationships (real or not) so please do not take this chapter to heart. It's specifically written for the book, not because of hatred. Although I'm not a huge Hendall shipper, I've never sent hate to her or Taylor. PLEASE DO NOT GET MAD AT ME. I AM NOT HATING, I SWEAR. c; Enjoy<3

Chapter 11 – Harry’s P.O.V.
“Kendall?” I asked dumbly as the brunette stood before me.
She gave me a small smile with a little wave. “Hey there, Harry.”
“Erm… What do you want?” I questioned, scratching the back of my neck awkwardly.
Kendall shrugged. “Management said I should come and visit you. They said it’d be best if they saw me out with you while on your vacation,” she explained.
I groaned, rolling my eyes as they fell onto the clock. I had to get Valerie soon. Thinking this, I said, “Sorry, Kendall. I have some, erm, things to do,” I stammered.
“You can’t say no. It’s management,” she muttered. “It’s just for a couple of minutes.”
I knew the boys would be listening in from the kitchen, but they already knew the whole “Hendall” thing was a publicity stunt. They get pretty fucking annoying after a while when you can’t even see who you want.
“I don’t have a couple minutes,” I told her, grabbing my keys off the counter. “Maybe some other day. Management isn’t going to die.”
Kendall sighed, raking her fingers through her hair. “Fine, but at least let me walk out with you. At least then we’ll be spotted together and management won’t chew other of our asses out,” she said.
“Whatever, sure,” I sputtered.
Walking beside Kendall out the door didn’t feel right. I’d much rather be walking beside Valerie at this moment, holding her hand and never letting go. It’s crazy how fast feelings can actually develop, but I don’t mind them. We’ll balance each other out; she can be obsessed with me and I’ll be obsessed with her.
It’s a beautiful compromise.
Valerie’s P.O.V.
‘Cause no one ever looked so good,
In a dress and it hurts, because I know you won't be mine tonight,
No one ever makes me feel like you do when you smile,
Baby, tell me how to make it right…
And what was I doing right now?
Jamming out.
The end of the day bell just rung and since Stevie was home sick, I had no one barging into my personal bubble. I haven’t listened to my headphones at school in a while, but I was definitely changing that right now. Nobody Compares… Old, but so fucking gold.
As I was walking towards the bus ramp, I then remembered Harry said he was kidnapping me. The thought instantly brought a smile on my face (well, a bigger one since I was already smiling like an idiot to my music). Remembering this, I walked to car pick and my breath hitched in my throat.
Harry was standing over my the entrance near his car, leaning against the pole as he scrolled through his phone, his eyes occasionally glancing up in search (of what I hoped) for me. He looked so freaking beautiful, just standing so casual and leaning on a pole. Yeah, I’m weird, but oh fucking well. I had a damn right to be abnormal, didn’t I?
Some girls waves while other squealed and jogged up to him. I huffed, feeling that damn jealousy feeling as the pretty girls practically clung to him. That’s always been one of my biggest problems in this fandom; the pretty girls. The gorgeous ones that throw themselves on the boys, well aware of their perfect face and perfect bodies. Well aware of their perfect lives in perfect houses.
Why can’t I be perfect?
Harry was smiling as he took a few pictures, but then his eyes met mine. For a brief moment, I thought he was just going to ignore me and continue with the flawless ladies, but he didn’t. In fact, he did the thing that made me want to cry; he pushed past them and made his way over to me. He literally moved them aside… just to come to me. As if I couldn’t process all this crap and his kindness before, I really can’t process it now. He could’ve picked any of those girls that were far prettier than me, but he still chose me. Again, I was grinning like a moron.
“Hi,” Harry smiled, jamming his hands in his jean pockets. Then he noticed my earphones. “What are you listening to?” he asked, but before I could reply, he took one headphone out and pushed it into his cute ear. Yes. Harry Styles has invented cute ears. Gross? Maybe. Can he pull it off? Hell to the yes.
It was now on Little Things, and I swear I was nearly in tears. This song just has that effect on me. I really don’t know why, but it brings out my sensitive and emotional side. In fact, I was swallowing my tears right now.
Harry’s grin stretched slightly. “One of your favorites?” he asked, keeping the bud in his ear as I sheepishly nodded. Harry smiled. “Mine too.”
I smiled back, but my rambling mouth decided to speak. “I know,” I answered quickly, but then face-palmed myself. Literally, I did it right in front of him. “I mean, I do know, but only because you said it in an interview and—“
Harry smirked. “You’re still in that nervous stage around me, huh?” he asked, but his tone carried a hint of sadness behind it. “I already told you, Val. Just be yourself. Really, I don’t mind.”
“Could you get any more perfect?” I thought aloud again, but Harry only shrugged. “Knowing you, you probably can,” I then added, again wanting to slap myself right across the face.
Harry chuckled. “Come on, love. It’s time I kidnapped you,” he smirked, grabbing my hand and tugging me towards his Range Rover.
I couldn’t help but smile as girls sent me envious glares, rolling their eyes at Harry’s hand entwined with mine. I could feel the butterflies in my stomach. The butterflies that never seemed to fade when Harry came around. Even when he was just a picture on my phone, the butterflies stayed and never left. All the 1D boys have that sort of effect on me, and even I don’t understand it. Maybe it’s the simplicity of the thought of wanting someone you can’t have. The desire to love someone who couldn’t possibly love you back, but you fall anyone because the slimmest chance tends to brighten your day.
Just like my love for all of the One Direction boys.
“Where are we going?” I asked, after he opened my door and jogged around to his side.
Harry smirked. “It’s a secret, Val. Now, I can’t give away the surprise.”
“Harry, I don’t like surprises,” I admitted. I’ve had too many “surprises” given to me from the doctors and nurses. Surprises are not my friends.
“You’ll like this one,” he smiled. “Promise.”
I sighed as I slowly nodded, rubbing my forehead before shooting Mom a text to tell her I won’t be home for a couple hours. I lied, saying I had to study because I didn’t think being gone alone with Harry Styles for a few hours would settle with her. Yeah, she has nothing against him, but she’s the type of Mom that believes in every rumor she hears. Harry being a womanizer (so not true) would be one of them.
I started scrolling through my phone, coming across pictures that made my heart sink. Harry was out with Kendall today? While I was at school? I mean, we aren’t together (even though we’ve kissed a few times now—Jesus, was it magical), but when did she come into town? I didn’t hear anything about her coming, nor has Harry even said anything about her arrival. The pictures were of them leaving the hotel One Direction was staying in.
“What are you looking at, love?” Harry asked, as if reading my mind or my saddened face.
“Nothing,” I lied, exiting the page and locking my phone.
“Valerie, what’s wrong?” Harry pestered, his eyes locked on my face in concern as I stared blankly out the window.
“I’m fine,” I told him. Even though I don’t particularly like Kendall, he deserves to be happy with someone as gorgeous as her. And if he’s happy, well, then I’m happy. It’s part of my vow from being a directioner.
Whatever makes the boys happy, makes me happy.
“No you aren’t,” Harry retorted. “Please tell me what’s bothering you, or I’ll stop the car and pull over on the side of the road and force it out of you.”
I sighed, raking my fingers through my hair. “Harry, it’s not even my business, all right? I’m fine.”
I didn’t expect him to actually do it, but he sure enough did slam on breaks and pull onto the side of the road. I looked at him questionably, but he stared at me with such an intensity, I felt like I were melting. “Please, Valerie. Tell me what’s wrong with you. If it’s really because you don’t like surprises then—“
“No, it’s not that,” I told him.
“Then what is wrong with you, love? I don’t like seeing you look all sad and depressed,” he said quietly.
He has no idea.
I pursed my lips together, shrugging. “I just don’t really care for Kendall, that’s all,” I muttered, but it came out way harsher than I planned.
To my surprise, Harry scoffed and rolled his eyes. “You and me both,” he grumbled, causing me to jerk my head to look at him in shock. “The girl is a piece of work, that’s for damn sure.”
I rose an eyebrow. “But you two—“
“Management,” he said nonchalantly, shrugging slightly. “Publicity hookups.”
This time, I was the one to scoff and roll my eyes. “Kind of like with Taylor Swift?” I muttered, hoping he didn’t hear.
My luck, he did. “Sort of,” Harry told me. “We kind of had a thing, but it wasn’t anything major, I guess. Is that really what was making you upset, though? Kendall?”
I felt extremely embarrassed by this point, sheepishly nodding. “I guess so…”
Harry gave me a faint smile, shaking his head. “You don’t need to worry about her, Valerie. I’ve got my eyes on someone else at the moment,” he beamed, sending me a wink that told me loud and clear that someone was me.
I couldn’t help it as I squealed, leading to another beautiful Harry Styles laugh.
