Chapter 6

Ian stares at the black-haired girl in front of him, the exact same girl who had saved him back in his apartment when Chihuahua Lady attacked.

Thalia.

He knows this and yet he isn't sure exactly how he does. He has the feeling he knows her and could even tell you multiple things about her. Yet he has no memories to go along with all this, only the vague recollection of her face from his dreams.

Thalia, for her part, glares at him while Dani, a Daughter of Apollo lingers nearby. Finally, the Daughter of Zeus reaches out a hand to Ian, a name on her lips, and hope stirring in her chest that he actually remembers.

"You were a tree?" He says it like a question, quite sure of the information but unsure of where it came from. "And.." He turns to the other girl. "I don't know you."

"Per- ... Ian, what do you remember about me?" Thalia asks slowly, a hesitance to her voice and not at all irked that the first thing he remembers was that she was a tree.

He shakes his head. "Just that you were the one who saved me back at my apartment, but that's it. I-I don't know how I know that stuff about you."

Thalia sighs as she realizes that he really doesn't remember. Her hopes are somewhat dashed. Of course whatever Dani did must have created some kind of link to his past life, but not enough for him to glean anything more than information. Sort of like when you know the names of objects, but you have no clue where you actually learned it. You know a chair is a chair and the color pink is the color pink, but you can't recall where you actually learned it or who taught you it. (A/N I hope that makes sense)

- O - O - O - O - O -

Chiron looks up from his game with Mr. D as Thalia and Ian approach. He smiles kindly at them and the blonde boy's eyebrows crease as he stares intently at the pair. Thalia only watches him closely and says nothing in greeting.

"How did you sleep my boy?" the centaur asks.

Ian shrugs, then his eyes flicker to Dionysus. "You're a god, the Greek god of wine......"

Thalia is glad that she gave Ian the rundown of the Greek gods and the whole they-exist spiel. He was much more accepting than what he likely would have been, but the resurfacing knowledge of his past seems to be responsible more than anything. The god looks up and grunts. "You shouldn't be here mortal boy. Now go back home before I have to turn you into a dolphin."

"Mr. D, Ian here was attacked by a monster. He's be safe outside the camp's borders at the moment. We're just going to let him stay until we've sorted out this problem," Chiron interjects. Then he wheels his chair away from the table and motions for the two teens to follow himself. In the living room of the big house they sit across from him at his desk. "So have we learned anything that could help our friend here Thalia?"

"Only that he knows about the gods and he knows things that he shouldn't, things that Percy knew," Thalia starts. She then goes on to explain what happened. A frown creases Chiron's forehead. By the end of the rather quick explanation he looks to have aged ten years.

He sighs and leans back in his chair. His eyes drift over to the mortal, coming to a sad realization. "You can't leave then." he says. "Monsters are already targeting you because of your past life. With this new development, you will be even more at risk."

"I was this Percy guy in my past life then?" Ian asks. The two nod. "And I did what exactly to make so many monsters want to eat me?"

"You killed them ... and saved the world, not just once but over and over again," Thalia states matter-of-fact. "Plus you just never knew when to shut that dam mouth of yours." She turns back to her mentor. "What do we now? He obviously has to learn to protect himself, but he's not a demigod."

Chiron rubs his chin thoughtfully. "It can't be helped really. He'll have to train with the campers. He won't have the same reflexes and he'll have to stay here in the Big House, but I don't see why he can't."

So with that the conversation changes to making arrangements for Ian's stay and the blonde teen wonders out onto the porch seeing as he can't really contribute all that much. He sees Mr. D in the same old spot, sipping a diet coke and looking entirely bored. He wonders over, not entirely sure what he intends to say or do.

The camp director looks up him and squints. "What are you doing here boy? Didn't you get the break you always wanted? Why'd you come back here to annoy me?"

"Excuse me?" Ian says taking a seat, careful not move too quickly or jostle his arm.

The god snorts and takes another drink. "Well are you going to play or not?"

Ian looks down at the cards laying on the table. He slowly shakes his head. "I don't know how."

"What are you good for then?" Dionysus grumbles and scoops what was Chiron's hand up to look at.

"Skateboarding, soccer and being late," Ian chirps automatically.

Mr. D. looks up at him with a glare, his eyes flashing slightly. He finally flips the cards onto the table and leans back in his chair. "Same old mouth. What's your name in this life boy?"

"Ian Carter," he replies, staring apprehensively at the god. He's not sure how he should act. Part of him knows he should be respectful and try not to get himself smote, but another part of him is revolted at bowing down to anyone, especially someone he doesn't think deserves it (and where did that attitude come from??).

"Very well then, Isaac Canton-" Mr. D starts.

"Not even close," Ian grumbles, causing the god to glare at him once again.

Dionysus continues as if the boy never interrupted him. "Run along and don't cause any noise. Those brothers just finally moved out and I don't want you ruining the peace. I will turn you into a dolphin."

Ian gulps and nods, turning and getting up just as Thalia and Chiron emerge. The black haired girl grabs him by his uninjured arm, pulling down the porch steps toward the open strawberry fields. Ian sees the familiar gardens and turns to stare back up at the farm house, realizing that this is the same place that he couldn't enter in his dream. However instead of a boring stretch of land, there is a Greek war camp spread out.

He stares in wonder at the strange buildings and the dangerous climbing wall. There's a pang of familiarity in his chest, but once again he's not sure where it comes from.

There's also a voice in the back of his head, whispering things about the place. It's a strange feeling because at first he thinks he's just imagining it, but no, the voice is obviously there. The voice is male and sounds not too different from Ian's own. This one though is heavier, more weighed down by some unknown burden and stronger in the sense that whoever processes it must be confident. Ian also gets the odd feeling that this voice actually is his.

Then it hits him.

This is Percy, the person he supposedly was in last life. Ian stares out across the camp, one thought echoing louder than the others.

'I'm home.'
