Chapter 13

Kate and I frantically walked around the village trying to find Meli. As we started heading to the plaza type area near the tavern, I saw a man that looked very firmiliar. Then it hit me, he was one of the men who had been with Derik earlier. I had only briefly seen him, only for a few seconds as everyone had been running from Aria... He caught my eye and I smiled at him, trying to be friendly. I clutched Kate's small hand and turned away, trying to find Meli. "Hey!" I heard from behind me. Knowingly, I put a fake smile on and turned around. "Yes?" I asked politely. "You think that you can treat me with that kind of disrespect?..." He slurred. He was obviously drunk. I just stood there and smiled, "Pardon?" I asked. He picked me up by the collar and Kate's hand slipped out of mine. "Amethyst!" She screamed.

Before the man could say anything, he was interuppted by a firmiliar voice... "Hey! Olson! Put the girl down!" Chase... Dang this is almost like Diaries... Everything happens at the right time... "Y-Yes Lord Chase." The man put me down and Clay grabbed my hand. My face flushed and the man left. "You ok?" He asked. I nodded. "Where's Aria? I thought she was always with you!" He asked, grabbing my other hand and holding it in front of him. "She banged up her knee pretty bad. She's in the infermary with Clay right now, and we're trying to find Meli." I explained. "Oh- wait why's she with- nevermind. I just saw Meli, I'll take you to her." He told me, letting go of one of my hands, but keeping a firm grip on the other. He took us to one of the merchant stands where Meli was talking to one of the merchants. "Meli!" Chase said. She turned around and looked at us. "Yes Chase?" She asked calmly. I explained the situation at hand and she followed us back to the infarmery.

Meli kicked the door open like a boss and stepped inside followed by me, and Kate. Chase slowly behind us. "Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry I wasn't here! I was talking to one of the merchants about-" Her voice trailed off. "Wait... What's going on here?" She asked. I realized what was happening, Clay was kneeled next to Aria who was sitting on the bed. "Nothing!" Aria yells. I hold my breath, shipping gears starting to turn "Clay helped me bandage my knee that's all!" I stared at them gaping. She gives me a look, "Nothing... Is.... Happening..." She said loudly and slowly. "It... Will... NEVER... happen..." Every one else in the room gave us strange looks, totally confused on what was going on, but I understood... I understood completely...

Suddenly I felt a hand slip in mine, Chase's. He leaned to my ear and mumbled, "Hey can I talk to you for a moment?" I nodded and he took me to the front room. We sat down in a booth and he let go of my hand, but still touching it. He blushed a bit, "I know now's not the best time but, I wanted to apologize for what happened last night. We weren't trying to be stalkerish, and I don't even know if you thought of it like that. Evan and I just slipped away from the party to talk about the village, and then we heard the singing. When we saw it was you, we were shocked. I don't know about yours, but in this world there's not a lot of music. Not many people have that kind of talent, and when we heard you... For me it was like seeing a long lost friend, one that you haven't seen for a very long time. My... Mother.. She was a very good singer when she was still alive. She would sing for me and my older sister all the time. It was like I was home again, way back when I was young... Then after she died, I lost my love for music. It made me sad, it reminded me of her. But I also want to thank you, hearing your voice was so comforting. And maybe one day, when I'm not so busy, you can sing for me."

I took that all in in shock. I've never heard someone tell me something so deep. I took his hands in mine and stood up, knowing that Aria would be worried by now. "Of course Chase, anytime." As I let go of his hands and turned to the room where everyone was, I tripped, my body shifted towards Chase and I fell right on top of him. My hands were on either side of his head and my knees by his waist. He slowly put his arms around me and sat us both up. "Thanks" I said, trying to overcome the fact that I was literally three inches away from his face. He could lean in and kiss me if he wanted to. He opened his mouth to respond, but was inturuppted by, the one, the only, Aria..... Heart. "Damn..." I said quietly to myself. "Aw, hell no!" She screeched, shoving us apart. Chase stumbled back, flushed faced. "A-Aria, it isn't what you think!" I stammered. "Damn right it isn't!" She yells. Meli ran over and grabbed her arm.

"Aria calm down! Come on, we can all be mature about this!" She said trying to help. Though she probably knew she wasn't doing anything. Clay looked at this event and then to Chase, "Lord Chase, you better run." He said calmly. Chase did the only thing any sane person would do, he turned and booked it out of the door. Aria then whipped to me, Uh oh... I thought. I knew she cared about me, but if one thing annoyed her, it was my belief in true love. Sometimes in relationships I tend to get out of hand. Then when the relationship ends, Aria is always the one to pick up the pieces of the mess that was made.

Her anger turned into sadness. "We'll talk later..." She said softly. She was upset, and I needed to back down. I sat down in a chair in the corner and blocked out the world for a few minutes. What have I done?.... I thought to myself, Without even doing anything I  broke her. I made her angry, confused, regret, and worst of all disapointed. I made her feel like she's not enough, but she's more than enough... Your the one who picked me up when I was on the ground.

Calmly, I snapped back to reality. Clay was showing Meli what he had put on Aria's wound. "Clay you know that's not disenfectant right?" She asked amused. I snapped, "What?!?!" I yelled. "What do you mean that's not disenfectant?!?! Did he put poison on the cut or something?"

"What? No, no! It's not poison!" Meli said quickly. I sighed in releif. "look, I'm sorry for scaring you. I didn't mean to. You see, this," She held ups the bottle. "Is a disenfectant. But it's mied with magical herbs and potions, it's only used for serious wounds, like a deep stab near the heart, or getting bit by an animal. Not for scratches." She turned to Clay. "Why did you use this?" she asked. He smiled, "Better safe than sorry." He said simply. Suddenly, her face went from confusion to understanding. "Clay," She said slowly. "It was just a cut. She's not going to end up like-"

"Don't you dare" He cut in. All at once, the playful mood in the air changed to pure coldness. Like a winter's night, freezing and dark, no sense of knowing where your going. She tried to say a name. I felt Ari grab my arm. I felt a mixture of confusion and releif. And then it hit me, "Clay, can we go now?" I asked quickly. "Hm, ya ok, lets go."

An hour later, we said goodbye to Kate. We walked around the village and met some amazing people. We were having an amazing time, that was until Clay's fangirls came along. We were walking along, minding our own buisness, and then BANG! Fangirls were surrounding him. They showered him with compliments and 'love' as we gaped at the scene. Out of no where, Clay pulled a cut brown girl in. I almost started ranting, but Aria did all the work for me.

"CUT IT OUT YOU DAMN PLAY BOY" She screamed. That's my girl I thought. She ranted on about nobody wanting to see him kiss girls, and honestly I agreed, but she could've made less of a scene. He let go of the girl and stared blankly at Aria. He started walking towards her,  and some of the girls tried to bring him back. I glanced at the girl that Clay had almost kissed. She looked sad, but she was fuming. Clay reached Aria and she stepped back. He opened his mouth to say something but was interuppted by a cold voice, "Clay August" Elias. The chills reached up my spine. The same chills I get when I see something frightening. But he didn't scare me, he simply made me angry. I wasn't listening to the conversation, it was probably about Derik, I don't care. Something built up inside of me. Anger, distrust, and pure hate all in one. The last thing I heard before I bursted was Elias saying something about Aria not being pretty. After that my hearing, and the rest of my senses failed me. I took Aria's wrist and we backed up slowly, then took off running.

If I've learned anything in the few days I've been here, it's to read emotions. I felt Aria mentally calling for me to help us out. I'm not even sure she felt herself calling, but I heard it, loud and clear.

And she was calling for me..............................
