Falling Hard - 31
Hunter's POV
I can't believe someone got rid of all the anaphylactic shots we had in the house. Without the secret one, we could have lost Keegan.
My hands form into fists. I breathe and try to control myself, but it's not working. "Why would Tia go through all this to get me?"
Suri places her hand on my arm. "Tia's mentally ill. Her family need to take care of her. Since she started working for us, her health has declined as she got obsessed with you, Hunter. She's watched everything you've done over the years. There's a board in her room with pictures of you and her together."
A shiver runs down my spine. "Once we finish questioning everyone, I want to see this creepy wall."
"Okay," Suri walks ahead of me. "It's got a naked pic of you and her together." She gags. "It's disgusting."
"Stop, Suri." I walk into the security room, see Ayden going through the footage, and stop for a second as the screen goes blank.
Ayden looks at me and says. "Someone's wiped the footage. Do you know someone who can restore it?"
Keegan's friend will be able to restore it for us. He told me to call him directly if I had any more problems.
Pulling my phone out of my pocket, I call Vance. It rings a couple of times before he picks up.
Vance: What happened, Hunter?
Me: Someone's wiped more footage. This time, it's to hide their track of getting rid of anaphylaxis shots throughout the house.
Vance: Someone tried to kill Keegan?
Me: Yes,
Vance: I will make this person suffer tenfold. I will be there in half an hour.
Vance hangs up.
Ayden looks at me. "You've got someone coming to look at it?"
"Vance will recover the missing files, and then he's going on a witch hunt. He's not happy that someone got away with doing what they wanted to do with Keegan."
"Should we be worried about Vance?" Ayden asks.
"No, the people who should be worried are the ones who tried to hurt you, Keegan." Moving to my brother's side, I say, "You should bring your maids to the dining room." I turn to my sibling and say, "You all should. We will also talk to the kitchen staff and the security team. This shit show ends now. I want Keegan safe behind these walls."
"We all do, Brother." Suri hugs me. "We will see you soon."
I watch as my siblings disappear to their Wings. Walking over to the kitchen, I tell everyone to meet me in the dining room once the kitchen is cleaned.
Pulling my phone out of my pocket, I call Wallace. It rings a couple of times before he answers.
Wallace: Hello, Hunter.
Me: Wallace, I want to see all my security personnel in my office in an hour and a half. Keegan's people will take care of the security until we finish.
Wallace: Sure, I can do that.
Me: Thank you,
After hanging up, I made my way to the dining room and sat in my usual seat.
Eliza is sitting in the seat she had after we finished dinner. She looks over at me with teary eyes. "I didn't want to do it, Hunter. Tia threatened me and told me that she would pay my parents a little visit and hurt them. My family have been vulnerable since my father was involved in a serious accident. It's why I need a job."
"Eliza, you had a chance to talk to us, but were busy trying to make your enemy happy. Did you think about how Keegan's family and friends would feel if they learnt of her death or hospitalisation? Of course, you didn't. It was all about you and your family."
"I want to apologise to Keegan. Can you bring her here?" Eliza asks.
Ring. Looking at the caller ID, I see Wallace flash across the screen. Picking it up, I say, "Hello, Wallace."
Wallace: I caught Tia on the surveillance camera near you, Wing. You should check on Keegan and make sure she's okay.
Me: Thanks, Wallace. I'll do that.
Hanging up, I run from the dining room towards my ward. Opening the door, I see Tia sprawled on the floor, and Clive is on top of her. He cuffs her hands. "You're the bitch that has been causing so much trouble, I'm glad I'm the one that got to you before you got to Keegan. You'll be in jail by the end of the night." Clive turns towards me. "Call Zane. I'm sure he wants to know about this."
Keegan walks out of the room with her phone. "We've got, Tia."
Voice: Great, I'll swing by in half an hour to pick her up.
Keegan: Tia will be waiting. Thanks, Zane.
Tia's face goes pale. "Zane? As in Dean's Uncle?"
Keegan moves towards Tia and grabs her by the shirt. "Yes," a smirk appears on her face. "Are you afraid now?"
Tia shakes like a leaf, repeatedly muttering 'Sorry,'
No one pays attention to Tia.
Turning towards Keegan, I say. "I'll be back shortly. We're handling the kitchen staff and the Maids. This house will be safe for you soon."
"I'll come with you," Keegan says. "I want to know why these people did what Tia wanted. I wouldn't be surprised if Zane takes them with him, too."
Keegan and I walk to the dining area where all the staff are gathered. She joins the staff instead of staying by my side. The one place that I want her to be.
Looking around the room, I say. "Tonight, one of you gave Keegan a cake with nuts, which could have caused an anaphylactic reaction. We searched the entire house to find out that all shots were cleared out. Which could have cost Keegan her life."
"What?" Someone yells. "Why would someone do that?"
Eliza steps forward and then turns towards Keegan. "I'm sorry, Keegan. This whole mess is on me. Tia told me to get rid of all the shots and make sure that Keegan suffered before she died."
Keegan moves towards Eliza and says. "What is she holding over you, Eliza?"
Eliza pulls a chair out and collapses onto it. "Tia found out about my father being in the hospital, and she's been threatening me with his treatment. I can't lose my father, so I did what she asked."
The door to the dining area opens, and Vance walks in with his laptop. He looks at me and says. "You should see this." Vance walks away from everyone and ensures they can't see it.
Stopping beside him, I watch the video and see another maid from Ayden's Wing helping clear out the anaphylaxis shots. Then the video follows one of my security personnel, and I notice it's Harry.
Who would have thought Harry would be caught up in Tia's web?
"Thanks, Vance. Was there anything else?"
"No," Vance says, looking at me. I have fixed your security system as well. No one will be able to erase anything without triggering an alarm. The alarm will alert your phone. All you have to do is look at the screen on the phone to see who it was."
Shaking Vance's hand, I say. "You didn't have to do all that."
"I did. Keeping Keegan safe is my number one priority. Before I leave, I would like to see her." Vance walks into the dining area. "Keegan,"
Keegan's face lights up, and she runs into his outstretched arms. "Vance," she hugs him, and they whisper a few words before pulling away. Turning to me, she asks. "Did something happen again that made you need Vance to recover your files?"
"Yes," I admit. "Vance has set some things up for me, so what's happened won't happen again."
"Good," Keegan turns back to Vance. "Can you have lunch with me tomorrow at Mal's Vance?"
A smile spreads across Vance's face. "I can schedule that into my diary. Would 1pm work?"
"Of course." Keegan smiles at him. "I'll call Mal later. I'm sure he'll give us one of the best tables in the restaurant."
"Mal will give you anything you want," Vance says.
"How do you know, Mal, Keegan?" Eliza asks.
"I worked for someone close to him." Keegan looks around the room. "We're not here to discuss things about me. It's time we dealt with the situation at hand."
"Eliza," I step forward. "You're fired." My eyes scan the group until they land on a brown haired, brown eyed girl. "What's you're name?"
The woman steps forward. She lowers her voice and says, "Jasmine. " She wipes the corner of her eyes and looks at Keegan. "I'm so sorry for following Tia's orders. I was desperate not to get on her wrong side. Tia worked for this family long and knows what they like and dislike."
Shaking my head, I look at Jasmine. "Getting rid of the anaphylactic shots could have killed Keegan. I'm not sure if the paramedics would have been here in time; that's the part that scares me."
Keegan places her hand on my arm. She whispers. "I'm here, Hunter."
Taking a breath, I look at Jasmine and say, "You're fired. Get your stuff and get out of here."
"Where am I supposed to go? I have a return ticket for March."
Suri moves towards Jasmine. "Go into town and see if someone will hire you, but I think the locals will ignore you as you've hurt someone that people respect in town."
Jasmine points at Keegan. "They respect her?"
"Yes," Vance says. You will be surprised at how fast news travels around the town." He pulls his phone out of his pocket and types something on it. Moving towards Jasmine, he shows her the screen. "Everyone will know about you in five minutes. Have fun while you're out there. Also, you might meet Zane before you leave. He won't be kind if you've tried to hurt someone he's protective of."
Jasmine steps towards Keegan and says. "Who the hell are you?"
"That's a secret I'll never tell." Keegan winks at her, which makes me chuckle. She looks out the window and sees a black SUV pull into the driveway. A smile spreads across her face. "Zane is here. I need to get outside to watch the show."
"What show?" A maid steps next to Keegan.
Keegan grabs her hand. "Tia's going to be taken away by Zane and taught a lesson."
"What kind of lesson?" The maid asks.
"The kind that people don't ever talk about. Zane can be brutal to people who try to hurt someone she protects and cares for. I would never want to cross him." Keegan and the maid leave the dining area and head to the porch to watch what happens to Tia.
Vance shakes his head. "Keegan is nosy. She has to know everything. You will learn that about her as you get closer to her."
Looking at everyone in the dining room, I say. "You are dismissed." I pull my phone out of my pocket and call Wallace. It rings a couple of times before he answers.
Wallace: Hello, Hunter.
Me: Can you send Harry to my office?
Wallace: Is everything okay?
Me: Harry is the one wiping the security footage. I won't allow him to continue doing that.
Wallace: I thought Harry was a good guy. It looks like you can't judge someone at face value.
Me: I know.
Wallace: I'll send him to you in a moment.
Me: Thanks,
Ending the call, I reach my office and open the door. I stand there and watch as Tia is thrown into the back of the SUV, kicking and screaming. "NO," she looks around. "PLEASE, DON'T LET HIM TAKE ME." The door to the SUV closes, and her voice is blocked out.
