Falling Hard - 27

Melody's POV

The door to my room opens at 9 a.m., and Hunter enters with a tray. On it is orange juice, a slice of toast with bacon and eggs, and a bowl of fruit salad on the side. He places it on the nightstand. "Good morning, Keegan. How are you feeling this morning?"

"I feel fine," I say as I sit up in bed, and Hunter places the tray on my lap. "You didn't have to bring me breakfast in bed."

A smile appears on Hunter's face. "Yes, I did. After all, it's my fault that you got hurt." He sits on the bed beside me. "I can't forgive myself for not being here for you. If I were, you wouldn't have blacked out, waiting for your friend."

Placing my hand on his arm, I say, "I don't blame you, Hunter." I take a breath. When I woke up, I was happy that you were at the hospital. We haven't been in each other's company for long, and you're changing my life—in more ways than you know."

"You're doing the same to me, Keegan." Hunter stands and moves to the door. "I have a few things to deal with right now. If you need anything, call me."

"Thanks, Hunter." I take a drink of the orange juice, just as Hunter leaves the room.

Hunter smiles at me as he closes the door. "I will see you later."

"Okay," I start eating breakfast.

When I have finished eating, I put the tray on the nightstand. I pick up my notebook and grab the pen before writing the next song,

Before the three months are up, I think I will have a new album that needs to be recorded.

Song Title: It's the Beginning.

Last night we stayed up,
Talked about things,
We liked,
We hated.

We have the same interests,
We've been heartbroken,
Cheated on,
And left by the ones we loved.

It's the beginning for us,
The attraction is there,
When you look at me, I can tell you're falling for me,
I'm falling for you, too.

Let's give it a shot,
And see where things go,
I'm ready,
If you're game.

You work hard for the things you have,
I work equally as hard,
Which makes us a perfect match,
Take my hand and show me what you've got.

It's the beginning for us,
The attraction is there,
When you look at me, I can tell you're falling for me,
I'm falling for you, too.

When the time is right,
I want you to kiss me,
Show me what it's like to be with the right one,
And make me fall like I never had before.

The last guy cared about himself,
And I was left behind,
Now, I know what it's like to be with someone who cares,
I'm ready to leap.

It's the beginning for us,
The attraction is there,
When you look at me, I can tell you're falling for me,
I'm falling for you, too.

Knock knock, knock.

Looking at the door, I say. "Come in."

The door opens, and Suri walks in. She smiles. "Hi, Keegan. How are you feeling?"

"Good," a smile appears on my face. "Have you chosen a song by Melody Stryker that you want to perform at Karaoke night?"

"Yes," Suri gives me a piece of paper. "This is the song that I want to sing."

Taking the paper from her, I go through the song and recognise it as the one I performed at the concert before everything turned to shit: ' Shutting the door.' I look at her and ask, "Do you know the meaning of this song?"

Suri sits on the bed with me. She turns towards me and says. "Yes, I do. It's about leaving your love for the person before and being open to giving it to someone who deserves it. I haven't been through something like that before, but I can hear in Melody's words that she's open to finding love again, despite the stuff she went through in her previous relationship."

A smile spreads across my face. "I will learn the words to this song, and when we go on stage over the weekend, we'll crush it and have the entire bar talking about us." I wink at her.

Suri laughs. "I hope that's true." She hugs me. Looking at the notebook, she asks, " Are you back to writing again?"

"Yes," I look at the page. Since I need to rest more after the head injury, I thought it wouldn't hurt to write something. It helps clear my thoughts."

Ding, Suri's phone goes off, and she looks at it. "Shit," she stands. I have some things to sort out with my company. I will be by later." Suri walks out of the room, closing the door behind her.

Grabbing my phone, I call Aliyah. It rings a couple of times before she answers.

Aliyah: Hey, Melody. What can I do for you?

Me: Can you arrange a couple of All-Access Cards for me for the concert at the Staples Centre?

Aliyah: You've never given anyone All Access to you before. Why now?

Me: You will find out when I come home.

Aliyah: Is Melody Stryker falling hard for the Male Westbrook?

Me: Shut up.

We both laugh.

Aliyah: I will have those passes available for you. Tell me their names when the time comes closer.

Me: I will.

Aliyah: I have to go, Mel. The client I'm working with right now is too demanding.

Me: Sorry, I left you in the lurch.

Aliyah: I don't need your apology. Just look after yourself and enjoy your time in the French Alps.

Me: Thanks, Aliyah. I will look after myself.

Aliyah: Bye,

Me: Bye,

Ending the call, I climb out of bed and take the tray to the kitchen. I rinse the dishes before putting them into the dishwasher.

The door to the Wing opens, and I wait for whoever walked in to make an appearance. A woman rounds the corner. She jumps when she sees me. "Hello, Miss. I'm Thalia."

"Yes, I remember." A smile spreads across my face. "You were assigned to Ayden's Wing. How's that been treating you?"

Thalia shakes her head. "Ayden can be a pig. He tried to seduce me, but I told him I was a lesbian and there was no way in hell I'd go for someone like him."

"Are you, though?"

"No," Thalia laughs. "Ayden was disgusted, which was something I wanted. Now the girls stay away from me and change in the bathroom. They are afraid that I will hit on them."

Pressing my finger to my lips, I say, " Your secret is safe with me."

Thalia looks around the room. "Suri asked me to help clean this wing while you rest in bed. I heard what happened. I'm not surprised that Tia did that to you."

"Why weren't you surprised?"

Thalia fidgets with her hands without looking at me. "Tia's jealous of you. She's clarified to everyone in Ayden's Wing that you will leave this place before the weekend. She doesn't care if you leave in one piece or pieces."

Wrapping my arms around my stomach. "Thanks for telling me." I walk away from the kitchen and grab my phone. I call Zane.

The phone rings a couple of times before Zane picks up.

Zane: Keegan, is everything okay?

Me: No, I think I need protection at the house.

Zane: Does Hunter know?

Me: No, should I tell him?

Zane: It's up to you. If you're afraid for your safety, you should consider it.

Me: Okay, can you get some people together?

Zane: Sure, they will be at the house in half an hour.

Me: Thank you.

The door to my room opens, followed by a voice saying. "Who will be here in half an hour?"

Me: I will talk to you later, Zane.

Hanging up, I look at Hunter. "I don't feel safe here, Hunter. Tia pushed me against a wall, and I got a concussion. Then she broke into the Wing in the middle of the night to cause trouble. Lastly, I'm not sure what else she's capable of."

Hunter pulls me into his arms. "I trust Zane. I will allow the people he brings here onto the property, and they will be here for your protection. Are you going to tell me who you are?"

"I will." I kiss his cheek. "Right now, can we keep it a secret?"

"Sure," Hunter doesn't let me go. "Can you tell me what's making you want the protection?"

Thalia told me some things. I think it's best to have extra people around. As much as I trust you're people, I know they also have a friendship with Tia. They might follow her lead and do her bidding."

Hunter lifts my face to his. "Okay, I trust your judgement." He pulls his phone out of his pocket and calls Wallace.

Hunter: Wallace, a group of people will be coming here in half an hour. If they tell you they are Keegan's bodyguards, let them through.

Wallace: Is the protection because of the threat that Tia poses?

Hunter: Yes,

Wallace: Tia hasn't left the premises yet. I heard that she was getting kicked out.

Damn, I thought she would have left by now. I'll have to sort that out.

Hunter: Thanks for letting me know. I will sort that out. Bye, Wallace.

Hunter ends the call. He turns towards me. " I let her stay the night, because it was too late for her to leave and I didn't want to feel guilty if something happened to her late at night."

"It's okay, Hunter."

Suri walks into the room without knocking and looks at us. "I saw Tia. She was making out with Dean." She gags. "I pull her out of the kitchen and to the front door, where her bags are. I kicked her out and called for a car. They will take the trash out."

Of course, my sister would care for something I failed at.

"Thanks, Suri. Should we watch the show of her leaving?"

"Yes," Suri turns her attention to me. "Do you want to join us in watching the trash get thrown out?"

"Nah, I'll stay out of this one." I started to feel a headache. "My head is hurting right now." Moving over to the bed, I climb into the blankets.

"I'll grab you some painkillers before we head out," Hunter says. "I'll tell you all about the show." He winks at me before moving over to the door.

Suri sits on the bed next to me. "Do you want Thalia to clean the room?"

"No, I'll manage it when I'm ready."

Hunter walks into the room with a bottle of water and painkillers. "Take these."

"Thanks, Hunter." I take the tablets from his outstretched hand and swallow them with water.

"You're welcome." Hunter watches me for a moment before saying. "We'll let you get some sleep. I'll come by later and get you for dinner."

"Where are we having dinner?"

Suri smiles at me. "You're joining everyone at the main dining room. It's time for Hunter to share with the rest of us. I heard we have a cake to enjoy. The one that you made yesterday. I can't wait to try it."

"I forgot about that cake." I look at Hunter. "The one in our kitchen needs icing on it. I don't feel like finishing it off."

"I'll do it," Hunter says. "I can follow the directions from the back of a cake packet." He turns towards Suri. "Shall we watch Tia leave?"

"Yes," Suri says, holding onto her brother's arm. We will see you soon, Keegan."

"Okay," I ask, looking at Hunter. Can you turn off the light, please?"

"Sure," Hunter turns the light off as he and Suri leave the room.
