Falling Hard - 25

Melody's POV

As I start to wake, a few voices are near my bed. When my eyes open, I let out a groan because the light hurts my eyes.

The lights turn off, and I hear a familiar voice say. "Is that better?"

"Yes," I croak. My eyes open, and I see Suri, Hunter, and Zane in the room. "Can I have some water?"

"Sure," Hunter pours some water and brings the cup to my lips. Once I've finished drinking, he asks. "How are you feeling?"

"Tired," I tell him honestly. Looking around the room, I notice that I'm in the hospital. "When can I go home?"

At that moment, the Doctor walks into the room. He picks up the folder on the end of the bed and quickly goes through it. "You have a concussion, Keegan. If you want to go home, someone needs to keep an eye on you for the next 48 hours, and you'll have to rest more. Do you think you can do that?"

"I'll be with her," Hunter says. "How long do concussions last?"

"It could be two weeks," the doctor says. Everyone is different. Give her slight chores to begin with before she resumes full duties."

Suri hugs me. "I'm glad you're okay, Keegan." She pulls her phone out of her pocket. "I'm calling Mom to tell her about Tia."

"Don't," Hunter places his hand over his sister's. "We don't have proof that she was the one who caused the injury to Keegan."

"Why don't we have proof? I thought we had cameras all over the house? Isn't that supposed to keep us safe?"

"Somebody erased the video," Zane says. "I have a friend who will be at yours in fifteen minutes. You should make sure that someone allows him access to your house."

Suri moves towards the door. "I'll call Wallace. He's usually at the gate at this time." She walks out of the room with the phone to her ear.

The Doctor looks at me before saying, "I'll have a nurse come around to give you discharge papers. If something happens, I want to see you back at the hospital immediately."

"Okay," I look at Hunter. "Are you okay with me slacking off on the work I'm supposed to do?"

"I'll be fine with whatever you do, Keegan. As long as you're safe, that's all I care about." Hunter's words are sincere, and I am lucky to have a man like him in my life.

Zane moves over to the bed and places his hand on my arm. "While you were unconscious, he was worried, Keegan. Give him a chance. I'm sure he will change your life for the better. Hunter will take care of you. Call me if you need anything, and I will be there for you."

"I will. Thanks, Zane." I hug him. "Sorry, I had you worried."

"You did. Thanks for trusting me enough to call and rescue you when you needed it the most." Zane looks at his watch. "I have to pick up the girls. Stay safe, and I will see you soon."

"Okay," A smile spreads across my face. "Thanks, Zane."

Zane hugs me before walking out the door.

Suri moves over to me and whispers. "How do you know, Zane? He drives high-profile clients. So, how does he know you?"

Looking towards Hunter, I whisper. "Can you keep a secret?"

Suri nods. "Sure,"

"I know Melody Stryker, and he's the one who drives her when she comes to town."

Suri screams. Then she covers her mouth. "Sorry," she smiles at me. "What is Melody like? I'm a huge fan of hers."

I know she's a fan of mine, which is why I'm being careful about revealing my identity. However, she deserves some truths.

"Melody is down to earth. She's not a fake person. However, she can't tell the difference between people being real and those who are fake."

"Is there any way you can get me backstage passes to her concert in LA? I'm supposed to attend the one at the Staples Centre."

"I can't promise you anything, Suri. I will call her when I hear she's back home. She's in hiding to recover from what happened with the wedding and the breakdown at the concert."

"Do you know if she's okay?" Suri wraps her arms around her legs while sitting in the chair across my bed.

"Melody is getting through it. When she returns, I think she will be better than she was before. Taking time off lets people heal when they need it."

"What is it like to be in love? I've never been in love. I have had boyfriends, but no strong feelings came out."

Taking a deep breath, I look over at Suri and say. "I used to know what love was, but when my fiancé left me at the altar, I realised I didn't love him. He was convenient. I'm glad that he left me."

"How do you move on from being left like that, Keegan? Your story is exactly like what happened to Melody Stryker." Suri looks at me closely, trying to find any semblance of her favourite singer. She shakes her head. "You remind me of someone."

"Yeah," I lean forward. "Who do I remind you of?"

"Melody," she lowers her voice as she adds. "You seem to know a lot about her. Also, I've seen you writing in a book. One that I think might be a song book. Can you show me what you've written?"

Shaking my head, I say. "No," looking at the door, I add. "It's good not to know everything, Suri. Isn't it good to have surprises in your life?"

I hope she will let the Melody Stryker stuff go.

"Fine," Suri moves over to the bed. You can trust me, Keegan. I will keep your secrets safe."

"I know you will. Right now, can you let me keep mine safe?"

"Sure, when you want to talk to someone, please come to me."

"I will," I promise her. "I can't wait to go back to the house. Being in a hospital sucks."

Suri laughs. "I'm guessing this isn't the first time you've stayed in the hospital?"

"You've got that correct. Have you had hospital food?" Suri shakes her head. "It's terrible. I had to get Mom to buy outside food and bring it to my room. I would only eat from Mason's."

"I've wanted to eat there forever, but my family told me that the place isn't worthy of our social standings."

"Just because you're rich doesn't mean you must spend money at all the upscale places. I don't waste my money on upscale places, they make the food too fancy and that's not my type of food."

Hunter walks over to us. "What are you two talking about?"

"Upscale restaurants VS lower-class restaurants," Suri tells her brother. "Keegan likes to eat at Mason's."

Hunter looks at me. "Really?"

"Yes," a smile spreads across my face. I heard that you enjoy upscale restaurants. I don't get why they have to make food so fancy and put it on a plate. At the end of the day, we consume the food, we digest it, and then we shit it out. So, why would we want to eat art?"

Suri bursts out laughing, which makes the hunter laugh too. "Damn, Keegan. My brother will have to find a place that suits your tastes."

"Suri," Hunter nudges her with his shoulder. "You can't think that far ahead when I haven't asked her out."

"Are you going to ask Keegan out, Hunter?"

Remaining quiet, I listen to the siblings squabble.

Hunter looks at me. "I do want to ask you out, Keegan. Right now isn't the time, though. You need to get better first. Then I will take you to the slopes if you'll accept a date."

"I will accept it, Hunter, when the time is right. When do I get to leave this place?"

"Soon," Hunter says.

At that moment, a nurse walks into the room, carrying a folder and a pen. She gives it to me. "These are the discharge papers." Looking at Hunter, she adds, "If there's any problem with Keegan, please bring her right in."

"I will," Hunter promises. "Thanks, Julia."

I signed the paper and gave it to her. "Can I go now?"

"Yes," Julia says as she takes the clipboard from me. I hope we don't see you here again, Miss Jennings." She smiles at me before walking out of the room.

I climb out of bed, grab my clothes, and walk into the bathroom to get dressed. I then walk out of the room and put the gown on the bed.

Hunter stops next to me. "How are you feeling?"

"I'm okay, Hunter."

Julia brings a wheelchair into the room and says, "You have to be wheeled out."

"I want to walk." I protest.

"It's the Doctor's orders." Julia waits for me to sit in the chair. "Who's going to wheel her out?"

"I will." Hunter takes the wheelchair handles and starts running for the lift, which makes me laugh. When he stops at the lift to press the button, he whispers, "You didn't need a wheelchair. I just wanted to hear you laugh."

Suri catches up to us and smiles. "Running through the hall is like old times," she says.

Hunter's smile falls from his face. "It is. I think that's why I wanted Keegan to be in a wheelchair. We used to run through the halls like this when you were allowed outside for a few hours."

Turning towards Suri, I ask. "Why were you in the hospital?"

Suri places her hand on my shoulder. "I had leukaemia when I was younger. I've been in remission for fifteen years. Sometimes, I worry that it could come back and I won't get to see and do many things I wanted."

"What's the first thing on your list?" I ask.

"You can tell Keegan, Suri." Hunter encourages her. "I don't think she will laugh at what you want to do."

Suri plays with her hands for a bit before saying. "You know how I'm a fan of Melody Stryker's?"

"Yes,"

"The first thing I'd like would be an All Access Pass to the concert, photos with her, autographs, and the last thing would be to sing one of her hits on stage in front of millions of people."

I will make her dreams come true. I will allow her to have some of that with Keegan Jennings.

The lift doors open, and we step inside. On the wall is a poster for karaoke night this Saturday night. "Suri, do you want to sing one of Melody's songs?"

"Yes, why?"

Pointing at the wall, I say, "They have karaoke this weekend. Choose a song and let me know which one. I will sing along with you."

"Are you serious?"

"Yes," a smile spreads across my face. "I wouldn't joke about something like that."

"You're supposed to relax for a few days," Hunter says.

Turning towards him, I say, "I will relax. Listening to a song and rehearsing it won't drain me, Hunter. Besides, I don't want Suri to be a laughing stock to the people in town."

Once the lift is on the ground floor, Hunter runs out, and we quickly get into the back of a black BMW.

The driver looks at Hunter and says. "Where would you like to go?"

"Can we get ice cream?" Suri asks.

Hunter looks at me. "Do you want to?"

"Sure,"

On our way home, we stop at a local ice cream shop. We order our flavours before returning to the car.
