Falling Hard - 23

Hunter's POV

Before leaving the house with my family, I tell Keegan to be careful when she's in the kitchen because I've heard from staff that Tia's been hanging around Dean. I don't trust any staff to have her back if anything happens while I'm out of the house.

Suri looks at me before we climb into the limo. "Is everything okay, Hunter?"

Looking at her, I let out a breath. "I'm not sure. I have this pit in my stomach telling me something will happen, and I don't know what."

"Fuck," Suri curses. "Should we be going to the slopes now? We could go another time?"

"No," I turn towards the house one last time. "If something happens, someone will call." I tighten my hands into fists. "Manuel, we can go."

Luna, Mike and Ayden buckle their seatbelts without saying a word. However, they know something's going on with me. They know when to ask questions and when not to. Suri is the one who usually pulls the information out of me.

Leaning into the chair, I close my eyes and take a couple of breaths. I hear my phone ding with an incoming message when I open my eyes. I pull my phone from my pocket and look at it.

Matteo: I just got a message from The Cole Group, and they asked if you could come in earlier as they have something important to handle.

Me: Tell them I can be there in twenty minutes.

Suri, who has a habit of looking at things she's not supposed to, says. "So, you're not coming with us to the slopes?"

"No," I look at everyone in the car. I have to go to The Cole Group. I need to stay in touch with companies we work closely with and keep them happy. I will see you for dinner tonight."

A smile spreads across Luna's face. "You're joining us tonight?"

"Yes," I lean forward. "Is there a problem with that?"

"No," Luna looks around the car before saying. "During the dinner last night, someone commented on Keegan and you."

"What was said?" I turn towards Suri. "Suri?"

Suri doesn't look at me as she says. "Somebody said you were in the Wing, breaking all the rules with Keegan. That's why no one saw you at dinner or after that."

"Let me guess. The person who said this is none other than Tia." I shake my head. "Tia saw us walk past her room after we had the snow fight. You should have seen the way she was looking at Keegan."

"That's why you're worried about her today? When we return to the house, I will check on her." Suri says. "I don't want to see anything happen to her."

Mike nods. "I would like to know Keegan more. Having dinner with her tonight will allow us to get to know her in a more neutral setting."

Ayden claps my back. "I'll have Keegan's back when she needs it. I'm sorry that she's having a hard time with Tia. I will talk to her when we get back to the house."

"How many chances does Tia have left?" Luna asks. "I heard that she slapped you, Hunter. So, I think that was her first one."

"Two more," I tell them. "Who will tell Mom that we need to fire Tia?"

Suri shakes her head. "I won't tell, Mom. The last thing I wanted to deal with was her giving me a lecture about her favourite maid. You will have to do that yourself, Hunter."

I'm unsurprised that I must break Mom's heart about us firing Tia.

The car stops at the entrance of the Val Thorens ski resort. Suri opens the door. "See you in a couple of hours, brother." She hugs me before getting out of the car.

Manuel exits the car and grabs the ski, giving each one theirs. "I will see you in three hours. If you need any longer on the slopes, call me."

"Thanks, Manuel." Ayden moves towards the door and looks at me. Good luck with the meeting. If you need anything, call me."

"Thanks, Bro. I'll keep that in mind." I wave at the group as the car pulls away from the slopes.

I wish I were going with them. Being a boss means that I sometimes have to prioritise work over family. I'm unsure if my Wife would want me to do that with her.

Closing my eyes, I drift off to sleep.

"Sir," Manuel says. "We're at The Cole Group."

Opening my eyes, I look at the tall building in front of me. On the side of the Building are the letters C and G. It's gold-plated, but I don't think it's real gold. I step out of the car and make my way to the building.

When I get to the door, it slides open, and I walk through it. Close to the lift is a desk with a few people sitting at it. A few plants are around the fire, and photos of previous workers of The Cole Group are on the wall.

As I approach the desk, a woman looks up from her computer. "Welcome to Cole Group. Do you have an appointment?"

"I do." I stop in front of her. "I'm Hunter Westbrook."

The woman types something onto the computer and goes through the list. Her head rises, and she looks at me. "I'm sorry, but I don't see your name on the list. You'll have to leave."

"Call Brad. He knows I'm coming today."

The woman hesitates before picking up the phone and calling her Boss. The phone rings a couple of times before he answers. "Mr Cole, I have Hunter Westbrook here." She remains quiet for a moment. "I'll send him right up." She hangs up and gives me directions to the office.

Walking over to the lift, I press the button and wait for the door to open. When it does, I step in and hit the button for the 20th floor. The door closes, and the lift takes me straight to the floor I want.

When the lift reaches the floor, the door opens, and I step out. Brad is standing close to the reception desk. He has his arms wrapped around a woman with brown hair.

The woman looks at me and says, "Welcome to Cole Group. I'm Lucy. Can I get you something to drink?"

"Sure, I'll take a white coffee with no sugar," I tell her.

Lucy kisses Brad on the lips. "I'll be back with your drinks."

Brad oversees her as she walks away from us. He turns towards me and says. "Let's go to the conference room." Brad leads me down the corridor and past three doors before we stop at conference room 1. He turns towards me. "The secretary Lucy is my wife. Before we proceed with the meeting, I wanted you to know that the way I kissed her in front of you would have looked unprofessional."

"It's fine," I tell him. "I've seen other people in more compromising positions than yours."

Brad's mouth drops open. "Are you serious?"

"Yes," I enter the room and sit at the side of the table. I look around the room and see papers in front of six other chairs. "Where is everyone?"

The door to the conference room opens, and five people enter: three women and two men. They take their seats at the remaining seats.

Lucy walks in with my coffee and places it in front of me. "Is there anything else you need, Mr. Westbrook?"

"No," I look at her. "Thank you, Lucy."

A smile spreads across Lucy's face. "You're welcome." As she leaves the room, she squeezes her hands on her shoulder. "You've got this." She kisses his cheek before leaving the room.

Brad's face turns red. He clears his throat. "Welcome, everyone. Today, we have a visitor from Westbrook Enterprises. It's Hunter."

A woman with blonde hair and green eyes looks at me. "Are you single?"

"No," I tell her. "We're not here to discuss me, but this company you work for. Please, conduct yourself professionally."

"Gina, you can't ask every man you meet that question? Not everyone is going to handle it the way Mr. Westbrook did."

"Of course they don't. All the men ever do is stare at my breasts..."

Seriously, it's not the time for her to talk like this.

"Brad, if this is how The Cole Group handles meetings, I think it would be best that I leave."

"Gina," Brad reprimands. "Get out. If you can't be professional, this room isn't the right place for you right now."

"Whatever," Gina grabs the papers from the table and leaves the room. "Call me when Mr Stick-up-his-ass is gone." She flips me off before walking out of the room.

Picking the pen off the table, I start making notes on improving The Cole Group. I won't allow this company to disrespect the things that Westbrook Enterprises does for them. Without my company, they would have lost everything a long time ago.

As the meeting continues, I listen carefully to what's been said and occasionally add a few suggestions, which Brad agrees to implement.

Once the meeting ended, I gathered my belongings and headed towards the door. As soon as I exited the room, my phone rang, and I pulled it out of my pocket. 'Wallace ' flashed across the screen.

What does my security team want?

Me: Wallace, what's going on?

Wallace: I have a woman with me who said that she hit her head and feels dizzy.

Please, don't be Keegan. She can't be hurt.

Wallace: She has a friend coming to get her. Can I let the person onto the property?

As long as the woman gets help, that's all that matters.

Me: Who is the woman?

Wallace: I'm not sure.

Hearing a familiar voice on the phone, I know Keegan got hurt.

Me: Keep her awake. Make sure she doesn't fall asleep. As for her friend, let them in. I know this person will take care of her. Keep me updated, or make sure the friend has my number. I would like to know how she is.

Wallace: Okay, her friend has pulled up. I'll let them through now.

The gate opens, and then I hear someone scream. "KEEGAN,"

Me: Wallace?

I keep calling his name, and Wallace won't reply to me.

Please be okay, Keegan.

It takes five minutes before Wallace is on the phone with me.

Wallace: The friend has taken Keegan to Grenoble University Hospital.

Me: Thanks, Wallace. I will head over there now and meet up with her.

After hanging up with Wallace, I called Suri. After a couple of rings, she picked up.

Suri: I won, I won, I won. She chants. Hey, Hunter. Is everything okay?

Me: No, I got off the phone with Wallace. It's Keegan,

Suri: What happened to her?

Me: Keegan bumped her head and is on the way to Grenoble University Hospital.

Suri: I will meet you there. I'll send a car to take Luna, Ayden and Mike home.

Me: I will see you soon, sister.

Suri disconnects the call.

As I leave The Cole Group, my mind begins to go through the moments I have spent with Keegan. The short amount of time we've spent together makes me realise that I'm lucky to have her in my life.

I hope nothing too serious has happened to her head.

When I get to the car I tell Manual where I need to go and he takes me straight to the hospital.
