Falling Hard - 22
Melody's POV
Beep, beep, beep. The alarm on the nightstand goes off, I open my eyes, reach across the nightstand, and turn the alarm off. Climbing out of bed, I go through the top drawer and pull out a matching white pair of underwear. I put it on, and then the maid's uniform. I brush my hair before walking into the kitchen.
I wash my hands in the kitchen before opening the fridge to see what's in it. The refrigerator has fruits, orange juice, milk, bacon, eggs, butter, and margarine. I pull out the bacon and eggs and place them on the table. I also grab some fruit and put it on the table.
I go through the drawers to find a chopping board, knife, fork, and everything else I need to make breakfast.
I hope Hunter will like breakfast.
Putting spray in the frying pan, I cook the bacon on low heat as I prepare the fruit. There are an apple, a banana, an orange, and a strawberry. I cut them and put them in a bowl.
The bacon sizzles on the stove, and I turn it over before cracking an egg and putting it in. I put two slices of toast in the toaster. Placing a plate on the table, I wait for the toast to pop before buttering it and putting the bacon and eggs on it.
The door to Hunter's room opens, and I hear his voice. "Thanks for calling, Matteo. I'll sort that out. Bye," he walks into the kitchen and stops as he spots me. "What are you doing, Keegan?"
"I'm making breakfast, and I thought you'd like something made in this kitchen." I place the food on the kitchen table and wait for him to sit. Once he's seated, I say, "I hope you like it."
Hunter looks at me. "Where's yours?"
"I'll eat later."
"No," Hunter says. "You will eat with me. Now make yourself some food and join me. Can I have a cup of coffee too?"
"Sure," I return to the kitchen and turn the kettle on. I cut the bacon into strips and cook it. Once crispy, I crack an egg in a bowl and pour milk into it. Then, I add pepper before putting the mixture into the pan.
While that's cooking, I make a coffee for Hunter and tea for myself. I put the bread in the toaster and made freshly squeezed orange juice. I take the tea and coffee to the table, and then I return to take the orange juice.
Hunter looks at the juice. "It's been a while since I've had fresh juice. Sometimes it's easier to pour from a bottle."
Grabbing a strawberry, I place it in my mouth. "I know what you mean. Normally, I grab a small bottle and have it during the day."
The toast pops, and I move to the toaster and take the toast out. I butter it and then put the bacon and eggs onto the toast before taking it to the table and joining Hunter for breakfast.
Hunter looks at me. "Keegan, I want you to look after yourself when I'm not home. Eat whenever you want, and use the restroom when you need to. You don't need to ask anyone for anything."
"Okay, Hunter." I eat breakfast and enjoy Hunter's company.
After breakfast, Hunter stands. "Keegan, if you want to snowboard today, just grab a board from my closet. Have a good day, and I will see you for dinner."
"Have a good day, too, Hunter. I was thinking about joining everyone for dinner tonight. I can't eat all my meals with you. People will think that I'm being rude."
"Do you care what they think, Keegan?" Hunter smiles at me. "Forget, I asked that. I'll join them as well. I don't want to eat alone."
Leaning forward, I say. "Why don't I bake a cake and make it up to you for not having dinner with you?"
"Deal," Hunter takes my hand and we shake on it "Are you going to make one for everyone else?"
"Yes, I am. I'll be making it in the main kitchen. At least after dinner, the group can eat their cake, and we can come back here and eat ours." I stand and start clearing the table. "See you later, Hunter."
"Bye," Hunter walks to his room and closes the door.
While I'm doing the dishes, I hear Hunter leave his Wing. After the kitchen is clean, I make the cake for Hunter.
The door to the West Wing opens, and Suri enters the room. She moves over to me. "What are you doing today, Keegan?"
"Working, I have to clean the Wing and bake a cake in the other kitchen. After that, I'm going to town. It's a cute place."
A smile spreads across Suri's face. "Yes, it is. I have to grab skis from Hunter's closet. Mike doesn't have a pair and wants to come with us."
"Have fun. I'll be hitting the slopes over the weekend with Hunter. He wants me to back up my words that I'm good at snowboarding."
Suri laughs. "Damn, my brother won't live it down if you kick his ass on the slopes. No one in the family has been able to beat him. I would love to see him compete with someone who's not afraid to deflate his ego. Because he is huge." She moves her arms, showing me how big his ego is.
It makes me laugh. "I will make sure it deflates," I wink at Suri. You should come with us. Or maybe you can time how long it takes us to reach the bottom."
"I'll take you up on the offer another time. If I join you, I'm sure my brother will get annoyed. He's trying to get to know the woman he likes. Besides, we can hit the slopes at a different time. How about tomorrow when you finish cleaning?"
"Deal," I shake her hand. "I'll have to look for the right board to use."
The door to the Wing opens, and Hunter walks into the room. "Suri, it doesn't take this long to get the skis for Mike."
Suri turns to her brother. "It takes as long as it does when you're trying to organise hitting the slopes with your friend." She pulls me in for a hug.
Hunter looks between us. "When are you going to hit the slopes?"
"Tomorrow," Suri says. "We've got unlimited passes, and I feel like seeing what Keegan has to beat you." She winks at me, making me laugh.
Hunter shakes his head. "You told my sister about our bet?"
"Of course." I smile at him. "I'm going to crush you."
Suri watches us closely. "You two are cute. I can't wait for you both to fall in love." With that, she walks towards Hunter's room.
Hunter looks in the direction that his sister went. "Sorry, Suri doesn't know when to shut her mouth."
"It's fine, Hunter." I put the cake in the oven and set a timer. "I'd better go to the other kitchen and make a cake for dessert."
"I've heard Tia's been hanging in the kitchen with Dean. Be careful when you're around that way. I don't want to hear that you got hurt by her." Hunter tells me.
As I pass him, I place my hands on his arms. "Thanks for the warning, Hunter. I'll be careful around her."
Hunter cares.
Walking out of the Wing, I close the door and go to the kitchen. When I get there, I see Dean talking to the other chefs.
Dean looks at me as I enter the room. "Can I help you?"
"No," I go through the cupboards and pull out the needed stuff.
Dean watches me. "What are you doing?"
"I'm making a cake. The Westbrooks are okay with me doing it. I spoke to Hunter about it."
"Okay," Dean helps me with the cake. He smiles. "It's been a while since I made a cake. The Westbrooks don't eat many sweets. You'll find that out the more you work here."
"Thanks for the help, Dean." I hold my hand out to him. "I'm Keegan Jennings."
Dean smiles. "I know." His smile drops as he says. "Tia's got her sights on you. She doesn't like you taking over what she does. Hunter was supposed to be hers."
Crossing my arms, I look him in the eyes and say. "Hunter isn't a piece of meat. He's a man who has the right to choose what he wants. Besides, I hear she's been sniffing around you."
Dean laughs. "You're right. She has been after me. I think she's trying to recruit me to be against you. However, I won't turn against you because you haven't done anything to me. If you do that, that's when I'll be against you."
"You don't have to worry, Dean. I'm not the type to do something to someone I don't know. If you lose my trust, you become my enemy, and that won't be pretty." I put the cake in the oven and set the timer. "I'll be back in forty minutes to check on the cake." I walk out of the kitchen and crash into Tia.
"Bitch," Tia pushes me hard and I hit the wall with my head. I slide down the wall and sit on the ground. "WATCH WHERE YOU'RE GOING." Trust her to yell the last part. Trying to gain attention from everyone.
My head begins to hurt, and I close my eyes.
People start to walk over to us. Watching the scene unfold before them.
Ignoring them, I stand and slowly make my way to the Wing. I unlock the door and walk into the room. When I get to the kitchen, the timer is about to go off, so I pull out the cake and check it. Once the skewer comes out clean, I put the cake aside and let it cool.
Grabbing my phone, I call Zane. It rings a couple of times before he answers.
Zane: Melody? Are you okay?
Me: No, I hit my head and I feel dizzy.
Zane: Is there anyone with you?
Me: No, I will wait for you outside. Please, hurry.
Zane: I will be there in ten minutes.
Grabbing my purse, I walk through Hunter's room and onto the decking. I follow that to the front of the house and head towards the main gate.
As I reach the gate, I feel faint, and I don't think I'll be able to make it much longer.
One of the guards spots me and walks over. "Miss, are you okay?"
"No," I reach for his arm. "I hit my head and I feel like shit. A friend is coming here to get me. Can you help me to the car when he arrives?"
"Sure," The guy picks up his phone. He calls someone, and it takes a while before the call connects.
Voice: Wallace, what's going on?
I wonder if that's Hunter, who he's called.
Wallace: I have a woman with me who said that she's hit her head and feels dizzy. She has a friend coming to get her. Can I let the person onto the property?
Hunter: Who is the woman?
Wallace: I'm not sure.
Wallace touches my arm. "What's your name?"
"Mel," I clear my throat. "Keegan,"
Hunter: Keep her awake. Make sure she doesn't fall asleep. As for her friend, let them in. I know this person will take care of her. Keep me updated, or make sure the friend has my number. I would like to know how she is.
Looking at the road, I see Zane's car approaching the gate. I start to move toward the gate, but before I can walk out, I collapse into the snow.
