Falling Hard - 18

Melody's POV

The plane lands at a private airfield in the French Alps. I grab my stuff from the overhead compartment and step off the plane. Before I make it to Security, my phone goes off, and I pull it out of my bag. Looking at the phone, I see it's a message from Aliyah.

Aliyah: There's a car waiting for you. You don't want to arrive at the house with your employer. It might give everyone the wrong impression.

She's right, and that's the last thing I want to deal with regarding the people I will be working with.

Hunter stops next to me and looks at the phone that I'm holding. "Is everything okay?"

"Yes," I look towards the cars parked in front of the airfield. I've got a car waiting for me. I don't think it's appropriate that we arrive together. I don't want the other employees to get the wrong idea.

Hunter shakes his head and starts laughing. "You used me for a ride here, but we're not good enough for you to arrive at the house with us?"

"I don't want to cause a scene, Hunter. After all, we don't know each other. There's no need for us to make everyone believe otherwise."

Hunter picks up his bags. "I'm looking forward to getting to know you, Keegan." He lowers his voice, only for me to hear. "When we get to the house, I'll ensure you won't get away from me. I'll have you to myself for three months." With that said, he walks away, leaving me with my mouth agape.

"Close that mouth." Suri touches my chin. "You shouldn't be surprised my brother would say something like that to you. It's been long since he's shown interest in a woman. I have a good feeling about how things can turn out with you."

I'm not here for a relationship. I want to forget my problems.

"Come on," Suri says. "I want you to meet Jeff."

A guy with dark hair and blue eyes steps out of a room and walks over to Suri. He pulls her into his arms. "Suri Westbrook, it's great to see you again."

"Jeff," Suri kisses his cheek. "I'm glad you're here today." She takes a step away from him before introducing me to him. "Jeff, I want you to meet Keegan. Keegan, this is Jeff."

Jeff's face lights up as he looks me over. He whistles. "Hello, gorgeous. I'm Jeff."

Taking his hand, I shake it. "Keegan," I quickly drop my hand and look towards Hunter.

Hunter sees the discomfort on my face and yells. "Leave the girl alone, Jeff. It's bad enough you spend time flirting with my sister." He moves to my side and leads me to another guy.

"Thank you, Hunter."

"You're welcome." A smile spreads across his face.

I give my papers to the border patrol, watch as he stamps them, and tells me to have a great time in the country. "Thanks," I say, putting my passport in my bag as I make my way out of the airfield.

A guy in a suit steps out of a black BMW holding a sign with my name. He opens the trunk and waits for me to walk over.

"I'll see you at the house, Hunter."

Luna, Ayden and Suri walk out of the building and watch me walk towards the guy holding a sign with my name.

"Aren't you coming to the house with us?" Suri asks as she moves towards me with her luggage.

"No," I look toward the driver. I don't want to cause a scene with the house employees. Arriving with you will cause a scene. I will see you when I get to the house. "

Suri throws her arms around me. "Okay, I'll see you soon, bestie." She steps away from me and moves over to her brother.

The driver takes my bags and puts them in the trunk. He closes the trunk and then opens the car door for me.

Climbing into the car, I wait for the driver to close the door. It doesn't take him long to start the vehicle. He looks in the rearview mirror and says, "Hello, Melody."

"Zane," I smile. "Did Aliyah give you the address to the house we're going to now?"

"She did." Zane pulls the car onto the road. "Why are you working for a rich family for three months?"

Sighing, I look out the window. "I'm having a hard time right now and need a distraction. Working for a family like this is a way for me to forget all about the sorry excuse ex-fiancé that I had."

"I heard about that." Zane's eyes capture mine in the mirror. "That guy is an idiot for letting you go. There are men out there who want you, and they will treat you better than he ever did. When that man comes along, promise me you won't let him get away."

A smile spreads across my face. "Zane, I promise I won't let that man go if I find him. I deserve the best and will give someone a shot when they come along. How's the family, Zane?"

"They are great. Lily wants to know if you're coming here to tour, and if so, she wants to come to the show."

"Unfortunately, I don't have tours for this place, but I will perform in Paris in April. If you can, I will get Aliyah to put tickets away for you."

"That would be great. Mel and I will stay with her parents in the City and take the girls to the show. They would love to see you again."

Pulling my phone out of my bag, I message Aliyah.

Me: Please set aside four tickets to my Paris show for Zane and his family.

Aliyah: I will put VIP tickets aside for the family.

Me: Thanks,

Putting my phone away, I look at Zane. "You've got VIP tickets put aside. When you get to the show, someone at the purchase booth will have your tickets."

"Thank you, Melody. The girls will be happy when they find out I have a great Christmas Present for them. VIP tickets to see Melody Stryker."

"Thank you for being my driver, Zane. You do more than you should when I'm in town. I will send something to the house for Christmas."

"You don't have to do that, Melody. Every year you spoil my family." He continues to drive through town. "Do you want to stop somewhere and grab a hot drink before going to the house?"

"Sure," I see we're close to my favourite bakery. "Can we stop at Mal's? It's been a while since I've seen him."

"I'll call and see if he's there. We should tell him that you are Keegan so he doesn't blow up your secret."

"Thanks, that would be perfect."

Zane calls Mal, and he picks up after a couple of rings.

Mal: Zane, what can I do for you?

Zane: Melody's in town and wants to see you.

Mal: I'm at the cafe. I'll kick everyone out so she can have the place to herself.

Zane: That won't be necessary. She's in town as an employee of the Westbrook Family.

Mal: Are you serious? Why would she do that?

Zane: She got her heart broken and needs time to heal. Which is why she's undercover here. Would you meet Keegan when she comes into the Cafe?

Mal: I will. Is she with you now?

Me: I am. See you soon, Mal.

Mal: Melody, it's good to hear your voice. I will see you soon, petal.

Zane: Bye, Mal.

Zane hangs up. He turns towards me and says. "Let's see our friend." He finds a parking spot not too far from the cafe. He climbs out of the car and opens the door for me.

Stepping out of the car, I grab my bag and head towards the cafe. When we get there, Mal steps out of the building. "Keegan," he yells.

A smile spreads as I look at the giant man before me. "Mal," I wrap my arms around him. "It's been too long since I've seen you."

"Come in, " he says, leading me into the cafe. A hot chocolate is waiting for you inside, and I have a slice of pie put aside for you, too."

"Thanks." I look around the room and see a table with a sign that says, "VIP." I move over to it, and I say, "When did you get a VIP table?"

Mal laughs. "I got the sign for you. When you're in town, I reserve the best table in the place for my favourite person."

"You're sweet, Mal."

"How long are you staying?"

"I'll be here for the entire Winter season. So, you'll be seeing a lot of me. That's when I get a break from working in the house and will be cleaning."

One of the servers brings over the hot chocolate and places it in front of me. "Thank you," I pick up the drink and sip. This is good." It doesn't take long before the pie with ice cream is placed in front of me.

Zane enters the cafe and heads in our direction. He looks at me and then at Mal. "It's time for us to go. I'm sure that you want to get there before the Westbrooks."

I do.

I hug Mal once more, and I say, "I will see you soon, Mal." I grab the cup from the table and continue to drink the hot chocolate.

As soon as we got to the car, I saw a limousine pass the street that we were on.

I think that's Westbrook's car.

Zane opens the door for me, and I climb inside. He closes the door before climbing in himself. He starts the car. "I know a shortcut to the house. We'll be there before them. You should finish the drink before we get there." He pulls onto the road and goes through the back streets.

It takes about ten minutes before we drive through a gold iron gate with a W. At the end of the driveway is a fountain with a W, too.

They want everyone to know who owns the mansion.

Zane stops the car in front of the house before stepping out and opening my door.

The house has stairs that lead to a wraparound porch. It is made of reddish bricks. The red front door opens, and a woman steps out. She's wearing a maid's uniform. "Who the hell are you?"

Stepping forward, I hold my hand out to her and say. "I'm Keegan."

The woman refuses to touch my hand, and I drop it. "What are you doing here?"

"I'm the new employee of the Westbrooks."

"Another one? Why are they hiring so many new staff without informing me?" Her face starts to turn red, and her hands begin to form fists. "They can't get rid of me that easily. I won't leave until their mother tells me herself."

Walking over to Zane, I grab my bags. "Thanks,"

Zane lowers his voice. "If you need to escape this place, call me and I will help you escape."

"I will keep that in mind." Pulling my suitcase, I approach the porch where the woman curses. "Are you done?"

Her eyes narrow at me. "No, but it looks like I have to give you the rundown on things for this house. There are rules that should be followed. However, with the newbies, I'm sure things are going to be different.
