Falling Hard - 17

Hunter's POV

At the airfield, I watch as the crew puts away our luggage, checks the plane over to make sure there are no mechanical faults, and puts fuel in the aircraft. I'm distracted by what's happening that I forget entirely about us having another person fly with us.

Ring,

My phone buzzes in my pocket, and I pull it out.

Answering, I say. "Hello, this is Hunter."

Voice: Mr. Westbrook. It's Keegan. I'm at the gate.

Looking at the gate, I see a car waiting to be let in.

Me: Shit! I forgot to tell Percy that you were coming with us. Give me a few minutes, and I'll ask him to let you in.

Keegan: That's fine.

I know it's not fine that I forgot to tell Percy. She's saying that to make me feel better, but it's not working.

Keegan: I'll wait a little longer. Please do not take too long, as I need to use the restroom before we leave.

Me: I will see you soon, Keegan.

I hang up. I call Percy at the gates, and the phone rings a couple of times before he picks up.

Percy: Hello, this is Percy.

Me: Percy, can you let Keegan in? She's flying out with us today. I'm sorry I didn't tell you earlier. With all the things I needed to do before we leave for the Alps, it slipped my mind.

Percy: I will let the woman in. Have a safe flight, Sir.

Me: Have a good couple of months. We will see you when we get back in March.

When I hung up, I put my phone in my pocket and watched the car drive towards the hangar.

The car park is close to me, and I watch a beautiful woman exit the car. She's got long legs, and her black hair reaches below her shoulders. A pair of designer glasses sits on her face.

Keegan pulls the glasses off as she walks towards me.

Watching her closely, I notice that she admires the private plane. "The toilets are in the back. I'll get the bags on board for you."

Growing up, Mom used to tell us that when a woman said she had to use the bathroom, she meant it. I have also seen it happen with Suri and Luna.

"Thanks, Mr. Westbrook." She picks up a small carry-on and takes it to the restroom.

Keegan gets closer to the restroom when she stops by Suri. They exchange pleasantries before she enters the room.

Suri walks over to me and throws her arms around my shoulder. "I like her. Do you think she'll want to be friends with me?"

A smile spreads across my face. "I'm sure you will be friends with her, Suri. No one can resist the charm you have."

She grabbed the notepad and a pen from my pocket. "I'll assign the help to rooms and who they will care for." Suri winks, writes my name on it, and puts Keegan's name next to mine. "Keegan's going to share the wing with you. Whatever you need, she will help you with it."

It doesn't take long before Keegan joins us in the hangar.

Looking at my siblings and Luna's boyfriend, I say, "Suri, Luna, Ayden, Mike. I would like you to meet Keegan Jennings. Keegan, I want you to meet my siblings and my sister's boyfriend. Suri, Luna, Ayden, and Mike."

"What's up?" Mike says.

Ayden has a frown on his face, and he looks unhappy. "Hunter, since when do
We invite you to join us on the plane?"

Why did he have to ask that while she's close by?

I don't bother giving my brother a response. Instead, I say. "We should board
the plane if we want to leave on time." I climb onto the plane without waiting for them.

Three minutes after I board the plane, my siblings join me. Keegan takes a seat behind me. I put the earbuds into my ears and listen to music, closing my eyes.

Feeling eyes on me, I open mine and turn towards Keegan, who doesn't look ashamed of watching me. "Is everything okay, Keegan?"

"Yeah," she moves her eyes away from mine. "I was wondering what song you were listening to."

A smile spreads across my face. "Do you want to listen?"

"Sure," Keegan says, taking an earbud from me and putting it in her ear." A smile spreads across her face. She likes the song. "Are you a fan of Melody Stryker?" she asks.

Placing a finger to my lips, I whisper. "Don't tell my sister. She would scream the plane down if she heard that her excessive playing of these songs has made me like the artist."

"Your secret is safe with me." She gives me back the earbuds. I'll let you listen to my playlist in a few days. I'm sure you will enjoy that." She winks at me before pulling the table down and putting a book on it.

Turning away from her, I close my eyes and listen to my playlist. I feel the seat next to me move. Opening my eyes, I look at the person disturbing my peace. "What do you want, Collette?"

She holds up a packet of nuts and moose. "Which one do you want?"

"I'll have the..." Keegan cuts across me before I finish.

"I'm allergic to nuts," Keegan tells us.

"I want you to get rid of the nuts. Make sure no one on the plane takes it."

"Okay," Collette gives me the moose before walking to the back of the plane and telling everyone to keep the nuts away.

Turning in my seat, I look at Keegan. "Were you going to tell us about the allergies to nuts?"

"No," she closes the book she was writing in. It's been a while since I've been anywhere without..." She trails off, not wanting to give too much away about herself.

"I'll have to call the house and get someone to take the nuts out of the house. My mother is the only one who eats nuts, and she's known to hoard that stuff around the place."

Suri moves over to Keegan. "Do you have an EPI-PEN?"

"I do. Why?" Keegan looks at the overhead compartment.

"Tell me where you keep it. If we need it in an emergency, at least one of us knows where to get it from."

"It's in my handbag. I don't go anywhere without it; if it runs out, there's more in the suitcase. How do you know about EpiPens, Suri?"

Suri looks at me before she tells Keegan, "I'm allergic to seafood, which is why we avoid all types of fish on Christmas. I hope that's not something you have all the time."

Keegan shakes her head. "I don't eat seafood much. Is there anyone else with an allergy?"

"No," Suri shakes her head. "Why?"

"I was thinking about making a cake for dessert. Sometimes, I like to bake things, and I don't want to cause an allergic reaction for someone."

"Thanks for thinking about us, Keegan," I tell her. "Nuts and seafood are the two things that will be out of the house while we're there."

Suri pulls her phone out of her pocket and adds a note. "I'll call Mom when we arrive and tell her not to bring nuts for Christmas."

"Thanks," Keegan smiles at her.

Collette returns with Moose for everyone. "Here you go."

"Thanks," Suri and Keegan say.

The pilot's voice comes over the intercom. "We're about to hit some turbulence. Please return to your seats and fasten up. It's going to be a bumpy ride for a bit."

Keegan puts her seatbelt on and looks towards the window. "The last time I dealt with Turbulence was when we flew through a storm. I could hear the rumble of thunder and couldn't sleep until we landed safely at the airport we were going to."

I knew it wasn't the first time her leaving the US.

Suri turns her attention to Keegan. "Where did you go? To experience the turbulence?"

"I was travelling to Italy. The plane jolted, dropping for a bit before the pilot steadied it. We were in the storm for 30 minutes. A couple of times, I was worried that we wouldn't make it safely to the ground."

Suri grabs Keegan's hand. "Do you think that will happen to us?"

Shaking my head, I look at my sister and sit. "I don't think that's what's going to happen. We might be heading through some air pockets."

"Okay," she loosens her grip. "I can't wait to get off the plane. I need to stretch my legs. I'm starting to feel cramped up here."

"I'm with you on that one, sis." I look at Keegan as she scoops some moose onto the spoon and puts it in her mouth.

"What?" She asks. "Do I have something on my face?"

"No," I shake my head. "You're beautiful." I blurt out.

Suri's mouth drops open at hearing me say that to Keegan.

I'm not embarrassed to say something true; Keegan should know what I think.

"Thanks," her face is slightly red from the compliment. She finishes the moose and puts the container in the pocket at the back of the seat. "Do you have any pictures of what the house looks like?"

"Sure," Suri says, showing Keegan the house photos. "The house has four wings. The north wing is for the workers. The south wing is Mom, Dad and Luna's. The East Wing is Ayden's and mine. The West Wing is all Hunter's. He wanted a private area for himself. There's an office and a spare room up there. There's a separate kitchen too. Most days, he won't have breakfast with
the family."

Keegan looks at me. "Why don't you eat with your family?"

Looking away from her, I say. "I can't get out of all my responsibilities. I need to be available if there's an emergency."

"Are you taking time off now?"

"No," I admit to her. I work for a couple of hours each day and then, depending on the weather, spend the rest of the day in town or skiing. Do you ski?"

"No," a smile spreads across Keegan's face. "I snowboard. Should we hit the slopes together?"

"You can show me your moves."

"Deal," she holds her hand out to me, and I shake it. "I can't wait to see what you can do, Keegan."
The pilot's voice comes over the intercom and tells us that we're about to land at the airfield."

Suri sits next to Keegan, and they start talking about random stuff.

I wish she were sitting next to me. Maybe she'll be sitting next to me when we go home.

It doesn't take long before the plane lands and we're told we can get up and get our stuff.

Opening the overhead compartment, I grab Keegan's stuff and place it beside her.

A smile spreads across her face. "Thanks, Hunter." She grabs her bag and starts climbing off the plane.

Suri looks at me. "I can't wait to see her face when she finds out she's assigned to look after you." She takes her bag from me and climbs off the plane.

I see Keegan pull her phone out of her bag and lay it on the ground. She looks at the screen.

"Is everything okay?" I ask.

"Yes," she lifts her head and looks into my brown eyes. "I've got a car waiting for me. I don't think it's appropriate for me to arrive with you."

I laugh. "You used me for a ride here, but we're not good enough for you to arrive at the house with us?"

"I don't want to cause a scene with the other employees. After all, we must pretend we don't know each other."

Grabbing my bag."We don't know each other." I whisper in her ear. "I'm looking forward to knowing more about you, Keegan."
