Seven
"I absolutely detest the concept of school," announced Kaelie as she came over to me, her hair in a knotted mess. In fact, her entire outfit was a mess and about 5 minutes later, I watch my brother walk in, fixing his hair.
"Damn you guys got to it fast," I said with a whistle as Xavier joined us and Carla blushed.
"We just slept together, no big deal," said Xavier with a roll of his eyes and I could see the hurt flit across Carla's face. She'd known what she was signing herself up for though. She'd stayed over at my house enough times to know of my brother's player ways.
"Way to be insensitive about it," I said as I whacked Xavier across the head. He immediately looked to Carla, who'd wiped of the disappointment from her face and gave him a smile.
"What? She's perfectly fine," said Xavier, turning back to me before he looked over my head at something else. Or more like someone. It was Kaelie, and she gave him a pointed look before gesturing to the janitor's closet. Xavier grinned like he'd hit the jackpot before stepping forward. I quickly caught him by the arm.
"Remember the plan and don't forget, she's using you," I said. I didn't want to see him get hurt. Not at my expense.
"Yeah I know but she's still a good lay," he said with a grin before walking away. Right, my brother catching feelings was about as likely as me getting a boyfriend in the next decade. I turned my attention to Carla, whose smile was now gone.
"Car, you know how he is," I said and winced as I came off sounding more like scolding than sympathetic. But comforting people had never been my thing. And besides, she should have known better.
"I know. It's just I thought I would be different considering I am your best friend," she said sheepishly and I pulled her in for a brief hug. I felt her stiffen in surprise before I quickly pushed her away.
"I didn't think you two would sleep together. I thought you guys might talk it out first. That's why I didn't warn you," I said, feeling a little guilty. She brushed me off and put up a fake smile on her face.
"Meh, I deserve better than him anyway," she said and I didn't push.
"Babe you deserve the world," I said dramatically as I pulled her in for a side hug. She did deserve the world, for putting up with someone as prickly as me every single day.
"Did you ask her meet you at the bar tonight," I asked Xavier between classes and he gave me a brief serious nod before bursting into laughter.
"What the hell are you laughing at," I asked.
"I feel like we're in a spy movie. It's so cool," he said and at moments like this, I was again harshly reminded by the fact that despite being the same age as me, mentally, my brother had made no progress since he'd turned five. He was still the same crazy kid that mixed ketchup with water to make Kool-Aid when my mother said we'd run out.
"At moments I pity you Xavier Reece Hamilton," I said as I slowly shook my head. He raised his eyebrow in question.
"I think I may have stolen all the smart genes when we came out of the womb together and for that, I'm truly sorry," I said. Yeah he was my twin, even though we were absolutely nothing alike.
"Shut up Rach," he said, a scowl appearing on his face before walking away to his next class. I watched him go with a smirk before turning to go to my own class. Oh god it was History. Ugh.
