Chapter One // Jasmine
Jasmine ~ This blissfully perfumed flower represents modesty, love and sensuality, which makes it an extremely romantic flower. Jasmine also signifies elegance, nobility and grace.
The morning sun slowly beamed down from my window seal, shining onto my sleeping face. I laid curled up in my blankets with my wings covering most of my upper body.
I groaned and tried to roll onto my side, but winced in pain; I had accidently laid on my wing. I sat up on my bed, rubbing my sore eyelids before letting out a tired yawn.
" Princess Jasmine?" I hear someone say, slowly opening my bedroom door and peeking through; it was Carla, one of the castle's many maids. She was what you could call, my 'mother figure' since she acted more like a parent then a maid. She helped fill in that role ever since my mother died. She'd check on me, made sure I ate, and always helped me dress and be on time. Carla looked around my age, but was probably my mother's age due to her immortality she gained when she died and came here," Sorry if I woke you." She apologized.
I shook my head," No, you didn't."
She nodded her head," Your father wanted me to remind you that you have the orientation today." she stated formally, her hands placed in front of her.
" Thank you Carla." I say with a slight smile. And with that, Carla exits the room, shutting the door behind her.
I let out a sigh as I reluctantly swing my feet over to the right side of my luxurious queen size bed, slowly touching the cold stone floor of my bedroom, sending cold shivers down my spine.
I finally stumbled out of bed and walked over to my dresser, where I began to pull out articles of clothes.
In the end, I picked out a beautiful, pure white dress with laced patterns on it.
I slipped out of my nightgown and into my dress -which was always tricky for me because of my wings- then grabbed a hairbrush from one of the top drawers and began to brush my blond curls.
Once finished, I slipped on a pair of white high-heels before looking into my mirror. I stand there admiring my dress, but there was something missing...
That's when it clicked. I snapped my fingers and walked over to my nightstand, picking up a beautiful wooden book with an angel wing crest on it. A light smile danced on my lips as I traced my fingers over the crest. I slowly opened the box and pulled out a beautiful diamond tiara. I placed the box down on my bed and walked back over to my mirror, slowly placing the crown on my head. It looked crooked on me, and no matter how many times I tried to fix it, it would not stay in place. I sighed and stared at myself in the mirror; I had hated wearing my crown, I always prefered a flower over it. But I had business with my father today, so I had to look my best. Plus, I didn't mind wearing my mother's old crown.
" Princess?" I hear Carla say on the other end on my bedroom door," Are you almost ready?"
" Almost...." I say, trying to get the crown on right. Carla peeked in, then sighed once she saw what my predicament was.
" You can never get this on right..." she mumbles as she strides over to me, fixing the tiara till it sat perfectly on my head," Oh! And you should wear your blue shawl with that dress." she scurries over to my dresser and pulls out a light blue shawl before running back over to me, wrapping in around me.
"How do I look?" I ask, twirling around like a child.
Carla inspected my outfit before nodding," Perfect." she turns away and heads towards the door," You'll be down soon, correct?"
" Yes. I'll be down in a moment." I say. She nods before exiting the room. I let out a sigh once I hear her leave. I check myself in the mirror one last time before exiting my chambers. I walk down the long hallway, my heels clicking against the stone floors. Once I reach the top of the stairs, I spread my wings a little before diving down.
It was always better to glide down stairs then walk, since I always seemed to trip or hurt my feet.
Once I reached the end of the staircase, I gently landed on the floor and continued to walk towards the front doors of the castle.
" Good morning Princess." The guards greeted, bowing their heads to me as they push open the heavy doors.
" Morning gentlemen." I greet, walking pass the two guards. The sun blinded me when I got outside, it took a moment for me to adjust, but then continued to walk towards the front gates.
Once I passed the large fountain in the front, I spotted my father speaking to someone as he stood in front of the carriage. Once he noticed me walking towards them, he dismissed the man had been speaking to and greeted me," Good morning Jasmine."
I bowed my head ever so slightly," Morning father."
" I am glad you are properly dressed." He stated, inspecting my attire.
" This is a formal event after all, father." I say, barely making eye contact with him. A slight smile danced on his lips before he snapped his fingers. A servant quickly opened the carriage door.
" After you," My father stated, lending his hand out to me. I accepted is hand and got into the carriage with the help of my father.
Once we were both seated inside, the servant shut the door and hopped up to the front of the carriage, taking the horses reins. The ride was silent like always, with my father reading paperwork and me staring out the carriage's window.
If you are curious on what this 'orientation' is, it is a meeting where my father, the king, welcomes the new angels to, what you can call 'heaven'.
I don't really do much besides stand there while my father makes his speech, then greet some people. It is rather boring, but I must always go, being the princess and all.
-----
The orientation went well, and was boring like always. But it was nice to greet the new angels. The ride back to the castle was silent, and my father only spoke to me when I began to slouch in my seat, telling me it was 'unlady-like' to slouch.
Once we were back on castle grounds, I quickly got out of the carriage and began to walk towards the garden, a place I spend most of my time at.
" Jasmine," I hear my father say, topping me in my tracks," remember: don't go out the castle gates."
" Yes father." I replied before continuing way to the garden.
As I got deeper into the garden, I found myself at a large willow tree. Hundreds of flowers bloomed near the tree as a bench stood in the shade of the tree.
I let out a sigh of relief as I plopped myself down on the bench. I bent down and slipped my heels off my feet, placing them beside me as I my feet dug into the soft green grass. A smile graced my lips as took in my surroundings.
I began to hum a soft tune as I kicked my feet back and forth like a small child.
Soon I was singing the song softly as I enjoyed the garden's beautiful scenery.
Being the princess comes with it's own perks: the finest of dresses and jewelry, amazing food, and a very, very empty schedule on most days. But even with all that, life becomes very boring. And my father never allows me to leave the castle, unless on a official royal business.
I continued to sing till I heard a twig snap behind me. I quickly shot up from my seat, backing away from the tree slowly.
My wings were spread out, ready to fly off at any moment, though I can't fly very well," W-Who's there..?" I questioned, backing up more.
I received no reply.
I continue to back up till I suddenly bump into something. My breath gets caught in my throat as I stand frozen. I feel the breath of another next to my ear, breathing in and out. Tears slowly crease my cheeks," I-I said...w-who's there...?" I question, fear building up within me.
I received no reply.
My brain in screaming to move, to run away, but my body stays frozen in fear. I hear what sounded like a sword or dagger being unshielded, and immediately, my body begins to move.
I ran.
I ran like my life depended on it, which it actually did.
But the stranger was much faster and stronger then me, and quickly caught up, throwing me against the castle wall. The air in my lungs escape me, and I am unable to breathe for a short moment. I watch as the man slowly stalks towards me with a dagger in hand.
I'm going to die.
Just like my mother.
I will die at the hands of a demon.
