Chapter three

Blade's POV

Keir, Kathrine, Dawn, Sabor and I walked through the forest heading into town to the blood bank. We may have taken our vehicles but we wanted to walk.

Since there's nothing to do we decided to walk in the forest to pass the time. Over the past nine years, we, Tandlers have gotten along well with the three friends of Sarah.

Sabor and Lennix ended up being good friends with Keir and I, while Kathrine became fast friends with Amber and Dawn.

The seven of us almost always hangs around together at once.

Nevada, Corbin and Sapphire hang around each other alone. They don't want to be part of the "action" that takes place. Nevada and Corbin finally got together but Raul doesn't seem to keen on the idea of his only daughter, whom's a lonely child, is dating. Especially the same species that live in the household.

What can I say, overprotective father.

Speaking of relationships, Lennix and Sabor finally are together as well! I'm so happy for them. They've only dated about a year now and are happy as can be.

Keir and Dawn got engaged a couple of years ago and now are a happy couple. Victoria and Raul are still together, which I don't know how long they've been together now, but for sure a long time.

The only singles ones are Amber, Kathrine and I. Although I think Kathrine is talking to someone at the moment, but not sure.

We walked in the forest admiring the view. I'd always loved the forest. I've lived here basically my whole vampire life.

I remember it like it was yesterday. Getting bitten in my home. Waking up in my bed oblivious at what was going on. Wandering around the town that was abandoned when Raul found me. He took me in under his wing.

Taught me how to control my hunger when I don't have blood, plus at the time, we had these accessories that would sting us if we craved human blood in town, until the Vanetts managed to deactivate a machine which activated ten accessories.

I remember the pain that stung us real bad. Not even stung. It felt like the venom racing through me all over again.

Not long after, war broke out between us and vampires hunters, and the Vanetts. It was awful.

A lot of poor souls got bitten and a lot of vampires and hunters died, including the original leader of the hunter group before that guy came along. Sarah's father, Jeffery Harper. I remember telling Sarah the news.

She was devastated.

We moved away not long after that to recover and collect newbies or oldies to join our group. Technically strays.

We finally came back home. Only being in town a couple of times, it seems dead. Maybe because most of the town is vampires and the mortals don't want to get bitten, even though it's the law that vampires can't bite humans or they'll die.

I mean even though it's great for the mortals, it's not for us, but they hunters did mention that there's a blood bank for us vampires.

It's a win win.

Voices in the distance snapped me out of my memory lane. I seem to recognize them. The others seem to notice and stopped.

"I recognize the voices," Sabe said.

"Same," I say.

Glancing around the area, the voices kept getting louder and louder as the closer they came.

"I doubt they have something to do with the mysterious murders."

"Well it seems kind of odd how they show up five months prior while the whole killings have gone down. Plus they didn't know the law and that there's a blood bank for them."

"Well I still think they aren't part of it."

They finally showed up. Sarah and two other guys stood in front of us. I recognize the guys from the old team years ago.

"Perfect, were just coming to you," one of the guys on her left said.

Sarah looks hesitant about the idea. "You have a couple minutes?" The other one said.

I nod as I leaned against the closest tree.

"Where were you on Friday night between midnight and three in the morning?" Sarah finally asks.

"We has a game night," Kathrine spoke.

"I told you they wouldn't have done it," Sarah defended.

"We believe ya, just boss wants us to make sure. You know him."

"We wouldn't eat anyone, that's if they trespass on our land of course but we wouldn't for no apparent reason," I say.

"What murder?" Dawn asks.

"There's been a murder at the B&B on Friday. The victim's been bitten then his neck snapped to make sure he doesn't come back," Sarah explains.

"Like the murder elsewhere?" Keir asks.

"Yeah."

In the corner of my eye, Sarah and Kathrine are hugging for their reunion.

"Well thank you for your time. We appreciate it."

They're about to leave when Save stopped them. "Wait. Are you guys doing the case or something?"

Sarah turned and nodded. "Yeah, we've been assigned to this case and won't stop and hopefully we'll catch them."

"Boss only assigned five of us to this case. The cops handed it over to us to find since the blood has been drained out."

We nod in unison.

"Well, we are heading off to the blood bank." I say pushing myself from the tree.

"We're on our way as well."

We left as a group. I stayed with Sabe and Keir when one of the guys came to me.

"Hey son. How ya doin'?"

"I'm doing good, you?"

"Good good. Where did you go?"

"Far away place where I can't say."

"Hmm."

Silence lingered between us. Everyone else is ahead of us as we strayed behind. Sarah noticed our disappearance from the group and look back. Her and I connect gazes.

A small smile reaches her lips as she slows her pace for us to catch up.

"Hey Ramose."

"Hey Harper."

"Back to last name basis now, eh?" The guy asked.

"Will, no," Sarah said giggling.

So the guy's Will.

"I'll leave you two alone."

At that, Will left us alone joining the rest of them. We stayed silent until I pluck up the courage to say something.

"How are you doing?"

"Stressed, actually."

"How come?"

"Dean, my boss, is just putting a lot of pressure on us all, especially me since I was the daughter of the vampire hunter. He's got high, and I mean high expectations for me. We've been training everyday being prepared for basically anything. He threatens to fire me, but we both know he's not going to do it."

"Was that your boss that was going to threaten to kill us?"

"Yeah that's him."

"He seems like a tough one."

"He is, but also a dick as well."

I chuckle. "I bet he is."

She chuckles at my statements. "How are you doing, Ramose?" She asks once she calms down.

"I'm doing good."

"How does it feel coming back?"

"Weird. After nine years of not being here, it feels weird but glad I'm back. The town, though . . . It seems dead from the what I remember."

"Actually, it is. Ever since Dean came song, he became 'mayor' of this town. He runs it like his own. Dean makes sure that everyone is doing what they're supposed to do."

"What happens if they don't?"

"Either executed by Dean himself, or just get kicked out of town and never return for any reason. Depending what the hell the people did."

"That's fucking insane!"

"It is. Especially with vampires living in this town."

"You've been living like this for nine years?"

"Yep. I'm also not allowed to have fun either."

"WHAT???!!!!"

"I know! Tell me about it. He never lets me or anyone have fun. No partying or anything. I swear my teenage years was better than this and I wasn't doing anything exciting, except for that year."

"Yeah, that year was interesting. But I still can't fucking believe that he won't allow you to have some fun in your life. That's what living is for, have some fun."

"I know, but I can't or I get fired and expelled from this town. I don't want to risk it since I've grew up here."

"I get it."

I really do. I've basically lived here most of my life as well so it was hard for me when I had to leave this place for awhile. I got used to it after a couple of years but it was still hard for me.

Finally making it to town, we went out separate ways after saying goodbye to each other. It was amazing taking to Sarah Harper again. A nice, general conversation together.

Hopefully we can do it again.
