Chapter five

Sarah's POV

I was in a vacant classroom wearing my red dress again. Desks were arraigned ready for class. Scanning the room, I notice I'm not alone. Jason Vanlee stands before me with a genuine smile that could fool anyone, even me.

He's in his suit ready for the dance. The Valentines Day Dance.

In a blink of an eye, we are in the gym swaying to a slow dance song that plays in the background.

My smile that felt forced is glued to my face. My arms wrapped securely around his neck while his hands glued to my hips.

Soon enough the song was over and now we're  at a table in the corner, chatting away about our night. Then he left for a bit while Blade came.

"What I want is for you to be careful about that Vanlee kid."

His words echoed in my brain and won't vanish. Before I knew what was happening, he's gone and Jason is leading me somewhere. We enter the same vacant classroom as I had earlier.

This time, Blade is on the floor and I'm in between Jason's arms. Glancing down to see crimson red staining his white shirt, eyes glowing carmine red. Pain screamed in my waist.

I tried to hold my gaze in his but my head lowered to see the same crimson red staining my red dress. The blood seeps through as my legs buckle. Everything went back.

-

I jolted awake from my horrid of a nightmare. I pant as sweat drips and staining my bed sheets. Glancing at the clock it's only quarter past two.

I can't believe it!

My nightmare is the night of the dance where I go stabbed and almost died, and where everything went down.

I always hated that day and Blade's warning kept ringing in my brain. I couldn't get rid of that day no matter how hard I try to burry the event deep down, locking it up.

But I can't.

This is the first time that I relived this in a dream. That I felt like I was back in that day.

I toss and turn trying to get back to sleep. I couldn't.

Finally getting up, I head to the kitchen for a glass of water. Turning on the news for some background noise. Not paying attention until a newscaster said, "A couple was found dead in the forest. The male found in the car while the female was found seventy feet away from the car."

I almost dropped the glass. Turning up the volume I listen intently of what happened.

"Vampires whom live in the forest, called in from hearing screams in the night. One say they might have spotted the murderer, but not sure if it was the attacker or the victims."

My phone rings, quickly picking it up.

"Hello?"

"Sarah, are you watching the news?"

"No, Sabe. I'm sleeping."

"You don't sound asleep."

"Cause I'm not. Have you ever heard of sarcasm? Anyways, I am watching the news. Was that you guys that found the bodies?"

"Yes. We were just hanging in the living room talking when we heard a scream."

"Okay, I'll-"

I got cut off by my phone ringing again.

"I'll have to call you back, someone's calling."

I hung up on Sabe and answer to my boss. "Hey boss."

"Harper, I need you, in the morning, to go and see what the vampires have to say about their encounter or so. Get as much information as possible. Bring Will with ya."

"Okay boss."

"Don't fail me."

Hanging up I sigh. Now the Tandlers are a witness. All of them. Turning back to the news, it switched to the Stanley Cup winners in Canada. Turning off the news, place the cup in the dish washer, then off to bed.

-

"Okay, this is the plan. Let them explain what happened before we start questioning them," I told Will who sat in the passenger seat of my car, nodding to everything I say.

"We can't nag at them and assume they did it. They're my friends and even you know that they wouldn't do anything."

"I know I believe they didn't do it either. Do they know we're coming?"

"Yeah, I phoned Sabe before we drove out to give them a heads up. Hopefully he let the others know."

Driving up the long driveway, memories flood back in my brain. Parking in front of the house, we got out. Butterflies are swimming in my stomach. Will knocked on the door and we wait.

It didn't take long for someone to answer the door. "Sarah, nice to see you again," Raul welcomes.

"Nice to see you too, Raul."

"Come in. Glad your here to talk about last night, and keep your shoes on."

Will and I follows Raul through the main entrance into the living room where everyone else sat. Everyone's eyes laid on us which I'm thankful I didn't come alone.

"Take a seat."

We did. On a white leather couch, Will sat at the end while I took a seat right beside Will and Blade.

Of course.

I didn't complain but still.

"Mind if we take this on recording?" Will asks.

"Not a problem," Victoria said.

Will got out the recording tape and we started.

"So tell us, what happened last night from the beginning." I order.

"Well, we were just chilling in this very room chatting away," Raul begins. "Nothing out of the ordinary and just finished collecting blood from the blood bank. In case you're wondering, Blade and Lennix went. We unpacked the bags into the fridge taking one for ourselves. Anyways, we were just chilling and talking when we heard a blood curdling scream."

Amber continues, "We didn't know what was happening. We thought someone was just playing a prank on us so we didn't bother checking it out."

"Then I heard someone scream, 'please leave me alone.'" Nevada said.

Corbin jumped in, "Nevada told us and I went to check it out. Checking through the blinds, I saw a blue Hyundai running outside our home, but it wasn't moving. I noticed a guy half laying outside the window. Being the nice person I am, I went to see if he was okay. When I got out there, he wasn't moving and I notice a bite on his arm. I called the others out and that's when we heard another scream."

Kathrine speaks up, "we rushed into the forest towards the screams, but when we got there, no one was to be seen but the poor woman. I checked if she needed help. Flipping her on her back, he head flopped to the side. Noticing the bite on her neck, I realize that she was murdered. We assumed the same happened to the poor guy."

"We finally called the cops. They delay with the bodies and interrogating each and every one of us," Blade exclaimed, finishing it all off.

Will and I nodded. It was a lot to take in. Will and I asked questions. "We're there any signs of a person being there?" I ask.

"Apart from the bites and I believe bruises where the attacker took hold, no," Keir said.

"What time would you say you heard the screams?" Will asks.

"I'd say maybe around . . . Eleven? I'm not sure when it happened," Dawn replies.

It took us all morning for this interview. Just as we're finishing up, my phone rings.

"It's Dean, I'll go take it then we're ready to roll."

Getting up, I answer the phone as I walked into the hallway away from the others.

"Harper, I talked to the cops about this murderer. They said that we have to take care of it. Which means we are going to catch this guy."

"Okay."

"No matter what happens we are going to chase this guy down."

"When you mean chase, you mean . . ."

"Yes, I mean we may have to go on a trip if this guy moves on. We need to make sure he's dead. If that happens, then I'm assigning you, Will and I will go. Isaac and Morgan will stay behind and run the team. We only need so many to go. Or we'll scare him."

"Yes, boss."

"Good. How's the interview going?"

"It went well. We've got it in record and just packing up now."

"Perfect. When you get back, I'll have a listen."

"Alright, see you in a few."

I hang up walking back into the living room.

"Ready to go?" I ask.

"Yep."

We thanked them for letting us interview them about last nights events. "What'd the boss have to say?"

I explained to Will everything that Dean has told me. Driving into the parking lot we headed inside the warehouse.

Dean stood in the doorway waiting for us. "Here's the recording."

"Thanks. While I listen, go train."

We nodded and set off to the training stations.
