(THEY'RE ALL LIARS)

It's not true.
Tell me I've been lied to.
What the hell did they do.
I gaze at the paper before me, my hands trembling as tears threaten to tear apart the paper. I try to blink them away, try to read over the words. Try to make sense of it.
The original report say the deaths are a result of a homicide and not an accident? Why is this document in my father's office?
Photos, evidence, written reports from official officers, medical examiners. All covered in dust hidden behind a locked drawer.
"Aurora, your dad left a few minutes ago, were you waiting on him?" I hear, the feminine voice being familiar.
I wipe my eyes slightly before sniffling ever so gently, "Uh no, he just wanted me to uhm pick up some papers," I say closing the file before waving the brown folder.
She nods, "Get some rest though kid, you look tired,"
I smile softly and return the gesture, when she walks away I close the drawer and grab my keys off the counter before walking out of his office.
My legs shiver which each step as I walk towards the elevator. My facade almost cracking into various pieces as I try to calm my nerves.
I press the button with trembling fingers, as I feel my own body ready to give up on me, when the doors open and it's completely empty I almost let out a breath of relief.
I step into the elevator and wait for the doors to close before my body leaves me no other choice and I drop to my feet, tears stream down my down my face as I gasp for air.
My heart tumps in my chest, ready to explode through my body as the elevator moves down.
I grab my chest, my shirt ruffling under my fist as I try to pull myself together, despite my efforts the tears keep flowing, my hands keep shaking and my heart keeps pounding.
I want to scream but I can't. I want to ball myself up in the corner of this elevator and never come out but I can't.
I notice the elevator number growing closer to one which prompts me to get up onto shaky legs, I wipe my tears, my eyes probably red and wet but I push myself through it.
I take a deep breath, holding the papers close to my chest as the elevator dings and the doors slide open.

I walk down the corridors, my eyes focusing on nothing more than my feet as I step forward.
Tears pry in the corner of my eyes, threatening to fall even if I blink. My vision is blurred, blocking me from seeing much of anything.
Just then, my head collides with someone's body, causing the tears to flow against my cheek. I wipe them away as fast as I can before I raise my head to apologise but no words fall from my lips.
Christian stares down at me and the words don't hesitate to leave his lips, "What's wrong?" His brows furrow and he grabs my hand before pulling me into an empty class.
He takes his bag off his shoulder and slides it onto a table before turning his attention back to me.
"What's going on love, talk to me,"
I sniffle slightly as I gaze at him, I hate that I'm always crying, lately I haven't been feeling like myself and now that he's back it's just intensified by ten.
I blink away the tears, "I found the original report in my Dad's office," I try to keep my voice as clear as possible but it's hard to.
"They knew and they lied to everyone for years,"
"Why'd you go looking?" He questions as he sighs softly, "I didn't want you to be involved, I already fucked up once I wasn't gonna do it again,"
He rests his hands on my shoulders before cupping my face, "I would've done this on my own,"
"I just needed to know," I say, biting my lip hard as I conceal the tears waiting to crumble, "After everything that happened, I wanted to know,"
A quiet sob leaves my lips as the tears finally win the battle against control and slowly start to flow from my eyes.
I didn't deserve to cry.
I don't deserve his comfort yet his arms wrap around me, pulling me closer to his chest as I grab onto the jacket. Tears penetrate the fabric and sink deep into his clothes as I continue to cry.
"It's okay," he tries to reassure me.
His hand rubs against my back gently, as his lips fall on my head, "It's alright,"
"They knew and they lied to you," I croak out, "My own parents...their fucking best friends,"
My breath gets strangled in my throat as I close my eyes letting the tears run down my face only to be caught against him.
"I'm sorry," I sob.
He pulls me tighter into his chest before resting his chin on the top of my head, "It's okay, it's not your fault,"

I take my seat next to Avery, who's been determined to ignore me since she found out about Christian and I.
As much as I don't understand the major issue she has, I gave up on talking to her. She clearly didn't want to.
At least that's what I thought, until she turns to face me and hands me a few papers, "I picked this up from the firm a few days ago, you were supposed to get one,"
I gaze down the papers, "Now you speak to me?"
"I'm over it, you can date or sleep with whoever you want, Aurora," she says, but it's not her normal tone.
I raise my head to glance at her, "What's the big deal with Christian?"
She scoffs slightly and shakes her head before returning my gaze, "Everything needs an explanation?"
"When you don't make things clear yes?" I say, my brows furrowed at her words.
"It doesn't matter anymore," she mutters but I decide to pry, I turn my feet across the chair to face her.
Crossing my arms over my chest, I raise a brow, "What did he ever do to you to make you hate him so much?"
She sighs softly and mutters the words, "I did everything in my power to make sure you forgot about him, yet you still fell for him again,"
Just then the words hit me, "What do you mean by that, did everything in your power?"
"I kept you guys apart, I sent messages to his phone and I blocked and deleted him on yours, all those messages you sent were going to my older phone," she mutters.
My eyes narrow in disbelief and my heart sinks ever so slightly, "Why would you do that?"
"I had feelings for you, and he knew that but he still kissed you when I told him not to,"
"Why didn't you say anything?" I ask, "We've been friends for so long, why didn't you just tell me?"
She turns to face me, "Would it have changed anything?"
I sigh softly before gazing away from her,"You're my best friend, that's not something you hide from me,"
"It doesn't matter anymore, it's in the past," she says, "I got over you,"
Although she says those words my mind wonders, I can't help but think what would've happened had she not done any of this.
She's the main reason I suffered so much, why I resented him so badly after all these years. She sat next to me everyday, knowing that he never did anything wrong.
My own best friend stabbed me in the back and kept the knife in for years.
I grab my bag from beside me and rise from my seat before walking towards the exit, today has already been way too much. And that, that was just the cherry on top.
When I get to my car, I unlock the doors and hop inside before placing my bag into the passenger seat.
Just as I got to start the car, a cloth covers my mouth as a hand presses it against my nose. I grab onto the arm scratching them as hard as possible.
As much as I try to scream, my efforts are meaningless as my vision slowly start to fade, I try my best to fight the person behind me but I suffer the more I fight.
Their arm presses against my neck as they push the cloth closer, making me inhale all the toxic fumes from it.
Soon my eyes close and my hand drops as I fail to save myself.
