Chapter Three
Spara Pov
When I was woke up surrounded in five inch deep water, I was not surprised.
And actually, this didn't even feel like water.
It was thicker and more gel like, but it still had the same buoyancy that salt water did. It was thicker than water, but thinner than lotion or soap. It felt weird, mysterious, and dangerous.
And Jonah was still sleeping.
I tried to shake him awake, but he was out cold. I started to panic as I noticed more of the water stuff was finding its way into the room.
"Jonah! Wake up!" I said and gently slapped him across the face. He didn't move. I slapped him harder. Still no movement. Then a thought crossed my mind, What if he's dead?
The water-gel suddenly froze around us, leaving us trapped in the ice.
I tried to jump back in shock, but the lower half of my body was frozen in the ice.
Oddly enough, I didn't really feel that cold.
I looked around, trying to figure out what caused the liquid to turn to ice. However, in the dim lighting, I caught a glimpse of my reflection and saw that my eyes were a silvery blue.
What if I caused this some how, like when I burnt the mannequins and Jonahs hand?
No, that's just nonsense. I'm probably just in shock from being kidnapped and going through this hell. My mind is just playing tricks on me to help me cope.
But Jonah's burnt hand was real. The ice entrapping me is real. How is that explained? Is this something our captors are doing?
I gulped nervously and focused on finding Jonah's pulse.
I let out a relieved sigh when I found his pulse. The ice turned back to water-gel.
I was about to put down his hand when I noticed in the dim light, that he had what looked like a shot on his wrist, as if someone had injected something into him, and the skin around the area was a deep red, almost purple.
Was this why Jonah was out cold? Did our kidnappers do it? If so why did Jonah only get it and not me?
The water-gel was now up to my stomach when I was kneeling. I had to find a way to get Jonah to stand up, otherwise he would drown.
And then the lights were turned on. Oh no. I thought. Last time the lights turned on there were mannequins.
I took a deep breath and was happy to see no mannequins. However there was something that felt off.
I looked up and saw a ladder, and above that a ledge, if I could just get Jonah up there......
The ledge looked smooth and tiled at the top, like the floor of a hospital, it was creepy matched to the dark gray slimy looking walls and ladder below it.
This seemed to obvious, like that's what the kidnappers wanted us to do. However, I didnt see any other way out; the way we came from was also filling up with water.
I grabbed Jonah and attempted to drag him to the ladder. I could just imagine the fit he would throw if he knew that I dragged him, Jonah The High And Mighty, through this mess.
However, with the thickness of the water-gel and the wetness weighing down both of our clothes, and not to mention that Jonah was at least a foot and a half taller than me, I made little process and kept slipping. If I had this much trouble getting Jonah to the ladder, imagine how impossible it would be to get him up the damn thing.
I let out a sigh of relief when I finally reached the ladder. I tried to prop Jonah upright the best I could between me in the ladder, at least the water was doing it's part to take care of some of the weight as it kept filling the room.
I now had Jonah leaning up against me and the water was up to my chest. I suddenly got a brilliant idea
What if I hung onto the ladder and used the water to push both of us as it filled the room? This way I wouldn't have to worry about carrying Jonah up the ladder, the water would have enough buoyancy to lift us up, as long as our heads were above water.
My plan was working. We were nearing the top of the ledge when the water-gel stopped filling up the room. Now I was greeted with a new problem. How to get Jonah on the ledge.
I couldn't climb up without letting him go, but I wasn't strong enough to push him up with one hand.
What if I froze the water like before? I could just freeze Jonah in place then unthaw him after I got to the top and could pull him out?
I shook my head. That was crazy talk. That was just my crazy imagination earlier, and if it wasn't, there was no possible way that it was me who froze the water-gel.
Then a new idea popped into my head.
We were not that far from the top, and my idea would work if I pushed from the right angle and if I was fast enough, I could get Jonah onto the ledge without drowning either of us.
Hopefully.
I freed one of my arms and grabbed onto the ladder, and with the other I propped up my arm behind his back and under both of Jonahs arms and grabbed the ladder from that hand.
When I had a good grip, I let go of the ladder with the side that wasn't holding Jonah up, and slipped off my running jacket.
Somehow, with great struggle, I managed to tie my jacket around the ladder so it replaced my arm that was holding Jonah up.
After I was sure Jonah wouldn't slip and drown, I took a deep breath, and went under the surface, and began slowly releasing my breath and swimming backward and deeper into the water-gel, but I made it so that I was still facing the surface.
I kept my eyes open, even though the water-gel stung my eyes. I needed to be able to see the dark blob above me that was Jonah.
I stopped when I could barely see Jonah's blob, then swam up as fast as I could, and rammed myself into Jonahs lower body.
I think I made progress in pushing him onto the ledge, but I didnt surface to see if I did or for more air even though my lungs were starting to burn.
Instead I kept pushing from below, until there was no weight left for me to push.
My vision was getting spotting and I had maybe seconds left of air before I passed out.
I surfaced and was happy to see that only Jonah's legs hung off the ledge, and so I started to make my way up.
Just as I was about to climb up, something grabbed a hold of my leg, and yanked me back under the water-gel.
I could hear my gurgled scream under the water. I was scared, terrified. Who knew what had me.
From below the surface I could tell that the lights went out, because everything went dark.
Oh no. Here we go again.
Whatever had a hold of my leg, somehow got me in a sort of choke hold and started to spin. The whole thing reminded me of an alligator attack.
Infact my captor felt scaly like an alligator. God I hope it wasn't an alligator.
Every limb in my body was screaming to fight, to break away. But I spun with the creature, letting myself go limp.
I figured that this way would cause the least amount of wear and tear on my body, and also I was exhausted from making sure Jonah didn't drown.
I somehow managed to kick what I assumed was its face hard enough that it let got. I swam up to the surface. I only had the chance for a couple breaths before I was pulled under again.
It was a fight of slow moving and unsuccessful punching and kicking on my side and a lot of well placed hits from the creature.
I was about out of breath and I knew I would have to give into the inevitable as I was pulled back under the water-gels surface for the umpteenth time.
I closed my eyes and accepted my fate.

JONAH POV
I woke up to find myself drenched. I was annoyed that I had slept in wet clothing.
"How am I wet?" I demanded. "And why does my wrist hurt?"
I received no answer. I looked around, but could not see the blabermouth girl.
Don't get me wrong, she was pretty with curly dishwater blonde hair and a thin willowy figure, but the sound of her voice was just too optimistic and cheery it annoyed me.
I just couldn't stand it.
I looked down and saw water below me. Weird, I thought, That had not been there when I fell asleep.
I looked around and saw something that stopped me dead in my tracks.
The girl was in the water, face down.
I suddenly had a flashback to what happened before I was kidnapped.
"Jonah!" fan girls cried out. I waved to them and nodded my head cooly. I winked my left eye and heard my fans scream with delight.
I smiled at them before disappearing into my hotel room where my girlfriend actress Cara Delevga was waiting for me.
Cara was golden-literally. Her hair was a golden blonde, her tan was golden, even her brown eyes looked golden. And she always wore golden clothes, like right now she had on a gold halter dress with some matching gold gladiator sandals.
Right now she had a magazine in her hand and was rolling her eyes at me.
"Seriously Jonah? Have you read any of these articles?"
"No, it's just a bunch of gossip about people that I don't care about."
"Oh yea? This ones about you."
"Is it now?" I said plopping down onto the lazy boy recliner.
"Yea. It says 'wow and look at how Cara Delevga downgraded to every tween girls favorite boy, Jonah Hudson.' omigod! Do you know how embarrassing that is?"
"Extremely?" I guessed, rolling my eyes at how absurd this conversation is.
"I know right?! I don't think I can do this anymore."
"Do what?" I asked confused.
"Us! I just can't-" she made a dramatic sigh and went out the sliding doors to where the pool was.
"Here we go again." I mumbled rolling my eyes.
This was an extremely common occurrence, but she'd be over it in a matter of moments.
I waited about fifteen minutes for her to come back, but there was no sign of her.
I got up and went out the sliding doors that lead to the outdoor underground pool and looked around but couldn't see Cara pouting in one of the many lounging chairs. My gaze settled onto the pool and I was horrified at what I saw.
Cara lay face down in the water the pool tainted with her blood.
For once in my life I was speechless.
I turned around to go back in and find my phone to call the cops, but came face to face with a featureless person.
From there my world had gone black until I awoke tied and gagged.
Now here I was. Again.
I jumped into the water without thought or hesitation, which didn't even feel like water, and managed to pull her over the ledge. I layed her on her back and started to perform CPR.
15 compressions and then a shared breath, and then repeat.
I was at for a while but she never responded.
Maybe I was doing the CPR wrong, I wasn't actually taught how to do it and was honestly just guessing.
"Please wake up." I pleaded. She couldn't die. We were in this together, she can't be dead.
She can not leave me alone. Not to deal with all this. No, I'm not going to let her take the easy way out. Not when there is the slightest chance of escape.
I got no response as I kept begging, and trying the CPR. I started to say it louder and faster. Still no response. He skin was purple and I wondered how long she had been in the water for.
If only I had woken up sooner.
"WAKE UP!" I suddenly yelled shaking her shoulders.
She unexpectedly started to cough up the water and her eye lids fluttered open.
"Jonah?" she said hoarsly.
I had never felt so relieved or happy to hear my name.
