Today something... interesting shall I call it happened. I got a message from the K.A.C after quite a few weeks of nothing. I have also gained symptoms of a common cold. Hopefully my stocks have enough for me to work with. Today's challenge shall be interesting
Test Tube's P.O.V:
I woke up to see a large box in my lobby. It seemingly came from the vending machine snack drop, next to the mail shoot. I should've built it better so stuff would stop falling down here. But it seemed to be sent here on purpose, not accident. I tried to pick up the box, but it was around 3/4 the size of my body and heavy weighted. So I just grabbed a cart and wheeled it to my office. Once inside, I turned on the light of my office and opened the box. From the K.A.C. Great.
"Test Tube"
Wait, how did they learn my name? I was sure my hint was not that easy. Continuing on-
"We have heard and remembered the letters you sent us of the deaths of the following objects:
Lightbulb
Apple
Marshmellow
And we have finally found a solution to the murder. Scientists from a different society have provided us with a type of machinery that holds the ability of revival"
Part of being feels disturbed and disappointed by this, but a small part of me feels pleased. I continue to read.
"They say if you set it up correctly, you'd have a 80% chance of revival of mattered object. We thought of this useful, considering we have three dead objects on our hands. Instructions are in the box. Once someone is revived, tell us. Send them back, we demand so."
Not bothered to be signed of course. Personally, I don't have to listen to their commands, they're my subjects. But a thought slipped into my head
Bring someone back? Who would it be....
Then that thought turned into an idea. I lifted the box the best I could, and headed towards the food shoot.
Paintbrush's P.O.V:
I fiddled with my chip necklace. She felt so close, yet so far away. It felt as if she were sitting next to me, holding my arm and chattering away like she had used to. But feeling becoming reality? Disappointment was inevitable. Fan played with his phone, like he had been for the past few weeks. It was probably to it's last moments by now. Then the food shoot made a large thud sound, something slammed against the metal and nearly fell onto Fan once it fell out of the shoot. Startled, he yelled quickly and scrambled away. I chuckled quietly at this, before getting up to examine it. I started walking, then stopped as Test Tube's voice boomed over the intercom.
"Good news Subject. The K.A.C have sent me a package which may be able to bring back one of your friends. Today's challenge is to build it, instructions are in the box. Hopefully you'll be able to bring someone back, if you don't mess it up. Begin"
"Yes!" Fan punched the air, and squealed excitedly. I looked at my necklace gripped it tight.
I'll bring you back, Lighty.
Fan reached into the box and pulled out a sheet of paper. It must've been the instructions. The print was nothing I could read, so I just looked at him. He scanned over the paper, then excitedly jumped and squealed again. "Test Tube taught me how to read these!" He said ecstatically, then flinched awkwardly notice he said that monster's name. "We'll get them back!" I cried, irrantionally hugging Fan. I was honestly too relieved to care. "We'll get her back!" "O-Oh" Fan said, pulling away from the hug. I was fine with this, as I didn't mean to do it in the first place. "We're getting ligh" He stopped. "tbulb back" "Duh!" I stated, relaxing finally. "Who else would we get back?" I quietly prayed to God that he didn't have some other dumb opinion. He started to open his mouth, then shut it as if not wanted to finish. Then he actually spoke. "Okay. Let's go this"
Fan's POV:
Reading that sheet was a breeze. Test Tube had spent an entire day teaching me how.
"Now if it has that symbol next to it, that means it must be inserted where the arrow is pointing" She had explained. The sun shot off her glass and made her green glow so satisfying to look at. Her smiled was eased, comforting and trusting. "So what does this mean?" I had asked, pointing to another symbol. "That's a key, instead of writing the name of the equipment, refer to the right side of the instructions, where the numbers are next to the words" "That makes sense!" I replied innocently...
What happened to her? I stared helplessly into the intercom. She isn't like this....
"Why are you doing this?!" I cried to her, hoping to summon my Test Tube from the depths of wherever she went. "It's for science Fan. I'm perfectly sane. This is just for my studies" She replied, smiling. I flinched as she touched the edge of my paper. I glanced up at her worriedly. "You wouldn't...." I said quietly. "Oh 3, but I would"
"Oi, Fan Kid!" Paintbrush snapped his fingers at me, finally dragging me back to present reality. "You okay? You were spacing out there" He wondered if I was okay. I honestly expected them to yell at me for my ignorance or something like that, but I guess he had gotten tired of that. "Yup, all the parts out?" I asked stupidly. The floor was littered with metal parts, a plastic bag of screws, and a paper bag of tools. "No I shoved them all back up the food shoot" They replied sarcastically, rolling his eyes. "Yes, they're here. What's my first step?"
Paintbrush's POV:
"And then you'll need to hammer that screw into 5" Fan instructed. Usually him telling me what to do would result in a hard slap across the face, but this time I depended on him. He can bring Lighty back, just shut up and listen. I pounded against the screw, then pulled out the screwdriver to secure it. We had been working 4 hours now, nonstop. (A/N:Music: GENTLEMEN OF THE JURY, I'M CURIOUS, BEAR WITH ME. ARE YOU AWARE THAT WE'RE MAKING HISTORY-)
I waited for Fan's next instruction. He flipped through the instructions back and forth, then looked at me with relief. "I-It's Done!" He said. I stood up and ran over to him to stand beside him and look at what we'd done. It was a sort of small machine. It had a circular base and a glass cover, the roof following the base. If I'm honest, it looked a bit like a small shower.
"Splendid! The instructions should tell you how to power it" The intercom buzzed out. Yeah Twisted Tube, thanks for the help. I thought sarcastically. Fan scanned through the pages again, then put down the papers and sighed in defeat. "We need to put a DNA sample in there" He pointed to a tiny opening in the circular base. It could only fit a cube of cheese if we really tried. "We don't have anything"
Instantly I began to panic. We didn't have anything left of Lightbulb. "We could use the blood sample?" I asked, remembering her blood being painted on the door. I shuddered thinking of it, but hopefully this would solve our problem. "It says we can't use liquids. And even if we could, how would we get it off the door?" Fan sighed as he dropped the paper and sat down in his corner. I almost broke into tears. I was promised a chance to get her back, we worked so hard....how could it all just stop here? I wrapped my arms around myself, then flinched when I felt something dig into my arm. I pulled Lightbulb's chip from my arm. It had really sharp edges and was in the shape of a square.... Then I realized. I screamed happily, jumping up and running over to Fan. Fan just stared at me, expecting an explanation. I picked him up and hugged him, making him yelp, then set him back down. He was standing now, and I shoved the chip in his face.
"Th- The chip!" I yelled. Fan still looked at me, concerned and confused. "It's square and was in Lightbulb's hand!" I watched as his eyes lit up, then he too was squealing like a little kid. "Put it in! Put it in!" He squealed, pushing me towards the machine as we both shook with excitement. I inserted the chip into the slot. A perfect fit! I thought to myself. I closed the hatch and Fan turned on the machine. It whirred as the glass became foggy, light emitted from it's depths. I held Fan close to me, anticipation crawling over us like the Trash Rat.
Finally the machine gave a loud crack, then stood still. We both stared at it, expecting something. After a lifetime of silence, suspense and worry, something rubbed against the fog clearing it away. Behind the glass stood a perfectly healthy and fit figure stood. Grey and yellow aligned next to each other, confused grunts coming from the glass tube. Fan and I were speechless.
"L-Lightbulb?" I trembled. The though of having her actually being back killed me and gave me life in the same heartbeat. Fan opened the door, and steam filled out. Finally we stood face to face with the figure in the machine. It stood at the entrance and stared at me and Fan. Then the expression changed.
"WHY THE HELL DID YOU REVIVE ME?!"
