Chapter One -Z

Zayley Gildarts' Point of View

"Crap."

"Zayley, did I just hear you swear?!" I hear my nut job of a father from downstairs.

"I swear that old man has super hearing," I mutter. I hear some pans cluttering downstairs, "Well, maybe I was born with it, maybe it's Maybelline."

My father.

"Shoot."

I bet he burnt the toast again.

Stepping down the stairs two at a time, he turns to me from the counter, he points outside the window with his spatula.
"Hurry, your little friends are here."

I raise a brow at the spatula, "what?" he shrugs and points again at the toaster, "toaster's broken."

He slides a plate across the counter with bread burnt at the edges, and slathered with melting butter. I quickly stick a square in my mouth and grab a bottle of orange juice.

"Mmmye!" I open the back door and quickly get in the silver little car, my friend, Annie greets me and her older sister, Janet.

Janet is the only one of us who can drive, she's a senior. And the most popular one. With her dirty blonde hair and dark brown eyes which melt your heart.

Annie, couldn't be more different, of course she's a sophomore, and a nerd. Every school has a "Queen B" but not ours. Janet isn't mean, she's the sweetest person I know.

Janet and Annie are like twins but not.
Janet: Cheerleader, heart throb.
Annie: Nerd, Sarcastic she has lighter brown eyes that turn a weird poop color green but she makes it look beautiful.

They are my best friends.
"Zay," I turn to Annie, "Did you study for the test we have for Chemistry?"

Holy cheese nuggets.

"Uh... Nope."

She sighs, I then notice the bags under her eyes.

"Annie, you shouldn't sleep deprive yourself."

She looked at me with her captivating orbs, "I try not to. I really do. You're lucky you're naturally smart. I mean, you don't have to study but you still manage to be the school's top five percent."

We arrive.
Janet parks behind, our usual spot. Not too far, but yet, not too close where these crazy animals can pull a prank on your poor unsuspecting vehicle.
Last time that happened... I'd rather not get into it.

I really hate our uniforms.
At least, it's not that strict where they make all the girls wear skirts and such.

It's just a button up white sleeve -not see-through material by the way- and dark navy or regular black dress pants. It's either that or the issued skirt.

They also issue the school's coat with the little emblem, but no one even bothers to use it anymore.

I mean, some people still do, I'd just rather not.

"Okay, I'm taking off now," Janet says. We all know she has a boyfriend, practically the whole school knows. She spends a lot of time with him.

Annie and I are in the same grade as sophomores.

I'm in my third period, Chemistry, taking my somewhat tolerable test, and just then the whole class is dead silent after we hear a knock on the thick door. It squeaks opens to find a kid I've never seen before.

He walks to the front where my lady teacher is at and hands her a note, she looks up at me. Let me tell you, this old lady is creepy.

"Zayley Gildarts, Counselor's," she says in her booming voice and reaches her knarly arm out with the yellow slip.

I grab it and head out. I find it near the main office to the side and step into a little hallway. I knock on the door with a small sign that says, 'Counselor's' and stick my head in.

"Zayley Gildarts?"

"Y-yes, M'am."

"Take a seat." She nods at two marroon cushiony chairs in front of her.

I awkwardly sit my butt down.
