Chapter Two

Jane, Jack, Barney, Amy and Craig.

I barely knew them. And, I believe, they barely knew each other. So together we were in a terrifying classroom with complete strangers.

Barney scratched his chin thoughtfully. Perhaps he was wondering if they were actually dead bodies. I answered his question for him.

I stood up. I walked over to a slumped body in a chair. As much as I tried I couldn't stop my hands from shaking. I brushed the corpses hair back and realised it was Arian. She was a perfect student: perfect grades and a perfect reputation.

There wasn't any blood but she wasn't moving. She was dead. Dead. The word echoed around my mind.
How was this happening?

"Maybe we should go look for someone?" Craig asked me. He picked at his finger nails as if trying to clean them.

"The killer, perhaps." I said sarcastically. In situations I don't know how to handle I often found myself being sarcastic. I suppose it was my way of relating to the world.

Almost as a protest to me, Amy stood up. She glared at me defiantly. From her dark her and her fiery eyes I could tell she wanted to be in charge. She wanted to be the hero.

What was I supposed to do?

Several thing actually, I could have argued, I could have protested myself or I could have gone onto the school system.

I did none of those things.

"Well? What's your brilliant idea?" I hissed. She smirked.

"We call the police."

Silence. That in truth was a good idea. At least I thought it was at the time.

Amy got her phone out her bag and I watched as she dialled the number. She hit speaker so that we could all hear what the police had to say.

"Idiots." Said the crackled voice on the phone, "you think you can call the police? Bad move."
That was when I understood. This was a giant chess game. He moves, we move, he moves, we move.

We had just put a bishop in front of his king. Of course we were idiots.

The lights went out. It was almost pitch black. That was what he had taken away.
