47. Remembering

Several Months Later

Lia's back was killing her, but sitting idle in her bedroom as the day passed her by was killing her more. She was due to have the baby any day now, and Mr. Kim was making it his personal mission to make sure everything went smoothly for her. That included making sure she saw the best doctor that money could buy. She had suggested going back to Doc for her check-up - the fear of complications ringing in her head - but Mr. Kim wouldn't hear of it. She, of course, had another motive for going back, but doubted it would result in anything. She hadn't heard from any of the seven boys so she was left to fantasize the worse.

Walking through the foyer of Mr. Kim's house, Lia walked to his library. Ever since she had been given time off work for maternity leave, she had found the best solace in there. At least reading a good book by the window helped her to escape everything for a while. As she entered the library, she noticed a small stack of books by her favorite emerald green armchair; all of them haphazardly stacked like they belonged to an in-progress game of Jenga. She smiled softly as she looked at the spines.

"I wonder if you'll like stories too," said Lia softly as she looked from the books to her rounded stomach. "I hope you do because I have quite the story to tell you."

She sank down into the armchair with a sigh, placing her hands over her stomach when she felt a kick from inside; as if the baby was encouraging her to continue. She smiled softly as she leaned back and focused on the far wall.

"It's a wonderful story about seven men that changed my life forever..." she started, pausing almost immediately as the memories began to replay themselves in her mind. Tears pricked her eyes. She missed them so much. Every day was becoming more painful than the last especially with the arrival of her baby getting closer.

Lia heard the sound of a door opening outside the library, figuring that it was Mr. Kim come back early. She moved to stand up from the chair and opened the door to the library to go greet him. She was sure she'd get the fatherly scolding for being on her feet instead of resting in her room, but she was used to it by now. Lia kept her hands on her stomach as she moved towards the front door, looking down at it as she started speaking.

"You're back early, Mr. K-"

Lia's sentence died out on her lips as she lifted her head to look at the person standing in the entryway. The tears that had pricked her eyes during the mental flashbacks slipped freely down her cheeks now.

"Jin!"

Lia rushed over to him as quickly as she could, giving him a hug. She felt him stiffen underneath the hug, frowning as she pulled back to look at him.

"Who are you?" asked Jin. "I'm here to see my father."

"You...you don't remember me?" asked Lia.

Jin shook his head.

"This man dropped me off here," said Jin, "Said this was my house."

"What man?" asked Lia before she realized that he must be talking about Doc.

She moved past Jin to look out the door, noticing that whatever car had dropped Jin off was already long gone. Lia sighed as she heard Jin walk over to her from behind.

"So, what's your name?" asked Jin, "And why are you in my father's house?"

"You might want to sit down," said Lia in response as she turned back to look at him, "Because it's a long story and I'm not sure if you'll believe me."

"It'll be just a little longer and then we'll be at your place," said Doc as he looked in the rearview mirror into the backseat.

Taehyung sat there with his hands on his lap, nodding his head. He had absolutely no idea what was going on, just having woken up earlier that morning in a strange place with no memory of anything except his name. This man had been the first person he had seen and had been more than kind in trying to explain the situation to him. Shortly after he had been told he was going to be driven home from recovery, he met some other men that had apparently gone through the same thing and were equally as confused by it all. He was the last one to get dropped off seeing as his family lived the furthest from this man's place.

Taehyung turned his head from looking at his hands to looking out the window as they drove through the city streets. It was then that a spark of a memory came to him in looking at one of the buildings they had passed. It seemed so familiar, and he didn't understand why.

"Stop the car," he said; Doc not listening.

Taehyung turned his head to look at the building as it started to grow smaller behind them. Just as Doc was about to round the corner onto the next street, Taehyung shouted out more forcefully, "Stop the car!"

The sudden exclamation from the backseat caused Doc to slam on his brakes. The sound of car horns honking from the sudden stop sounded out as Taehyung opened the door to get out of the car. Once out, he jogged down the street to the familiar looking building; a more intense feeling of nostalgia flooding him as he stood in front of it. He had been here before and he had to find out why.

Opening the door, he made his way up the cramped stairwell. A cat that was lying basking on one of the steps jumped up and hissed at him as Taehyung almost came into contact with its tail. Taehyung muttered a quick apology to the cat as he stepped onto the landing, pausing as he looked at the apartment doors on either side of him. As he did, the feeling of familiarity just continued to grow. His eyes landed on a door off to the side and it was then that the feeling of familiarity hit him like a truck. In an instant, his memories all came rushing back to him. He let out a gasp from how fast they were all coming back, nearly stumbling back into the stairwell but righting himself at the last moment.

"Lia..." he whispered as his eyes looked towards her apartment door.

He rushed for it almost instantly, blinking tears from his eyes as he knocked on it. He heard footsteps behind it and soon the door was opening up to a woman that was not Lia. He frowned, noticing a semi-chaotic scene behind the woman standing in front of him. A young child was half terrorizing a cat as he chased it in waddle fashion around the couch.

"Can I help you?" asked the woman before Taehyung; Taehyung turning his gaze to look at the woman.

"I'm looking for someone named Lia."

"I'm sorry. I don't know anyone by that name."

"She used to live here."

"Well, she hasn't for the last several months. I have been. I'm sorry that you have the wrong address."

"That's...that's okay," said Taehyung as he bowed his head slightly. "Thank you. I'm sorry to have bothered you."

The woman wished him a good day before shutting the door on him. Taehyung sighed as he ran a hand through his blue hair, turning around to see an elderly woman across the way looking right at him.

"Did I hear you were looking for Lia?" asked the elderly woman. "I know where she went."
