1: Anywhere and Everywhere Where Do You Want To Start?
Clara Oswald was working at a diner in Nevada, U.S.A., music is playing on the old jukebox, when an older man, with an electric guitar slung over his should. "Hi. What can I get you?" She asked the man, The Doctor.
"I don't have any money. But I play." He told her, gesturing to his guitar, Clara smiles as she remembers him playing it.
"Okay." She agreed, The Doctor sits on a stool at the counter. "Don't you need to plug that thing in?" Clara asked him, he agreed. He takes off his sunglasses and places them by the transistor radio, and then he activates them. Oh, I'm going to miss those, she thinks.
"You're English." He commented.
"You're not." She joked.
"How did you get out here?" The Doctor asked her.
"Magic." She replied, a smile on her face, "Or maybe I went to an airport and caught a plane." She lied.
"Ah."
"You?" She asked.
"Magic." I did she smiled sadly. He strums his guitar and the sound goes through the transistor radio, then crackles into the diner's sound system.
"I believe you. You been travelling?"
"Yeah, from time to time." Me too. He plays a slightly melancholy tune on his guitar. She recognizes the song, the one he wrote for her, back when he was bow ties, and childish.
"Is it a sad song?" She asked, even though she new the answer.
"Nothing's sad till it's over. Then everything is." The Doctor told her.
"What's it called?" Clara.
"I think that it's called Clara." Clara, smiled a sadly, knowing smile.
"Tell me about her." Clara told him.
The Doctor, goes on to explain about going to his 'Hometown' but Clara knew exactly what he was talking about. Her favorite part, was when the General, told The Doctor to lay down any weapons, and he put down his spoon. She remembered when they went and saw Robin Hood and his Merry Men, The Doctor, not believing he was real, and him fighting Robin with a spoon and winning.
"Oh, you like a cliffhanger, don't you? So you went back to your home town." Clara asked, even though she knew it was Gallifrey.
"Something like that." The Doctor replied, she poured them both a drink from a large pitcher.
"Glasgow?" Gallifrey.
"Er, well, sort of Glasgow. Space Glasgow." He said, she smiled at that.
"And there was this gang boss and he wanted to kill you." She hadn't heard that part, but it was the Lord President, or Rassilon.
"Wanted to, yeah." He replied.
He goes on to explain, the soldiers, how they stood with him, and didn't kill him, which was very good. Clara thought.
"Is this a story or did this really happen?" Clara asked, but she knew it really did happen.
"Every story ever told really happened. Stories are where memories go when they're forgotten." We're all stories in the end, just make it a good one. Clara thought, The Doctor had told her this once in the library.
The Doctor told her, how he became President, and he saved, her,(but he doesn't remember her, just that he couldn't live with out here anymore,) he also told her, that he killed the general, just to save her. She loved that he did that for her, but she also hated that he killed him for her.
The Doctor is strumming his guitar.
"This Clara person, you must really like her." Oh, he did. Clara pointed out.
"Why do you say that?" The Doctor asked.
"You killed a man. You don't seem the type." Not on purpose, unless it involved saving her.
He told her about the Cloisters, and what he remembered about her being there. What she said to him.
"When something goes missing, you can always recreate it by the hole it left. I know her name was Clara." That's me, "I know we travelled together." Yeah, we did, "I know that there was an Ice Warrior on a submarine and a mummy on the Orient Express." Oh, I miss those times, "I know we sat together in the Cloisters and she told me something very important, but I have no idea what she said. Or what she looked like. Or how she talked. Or laughed. There's nothing there. Just nothing." He said, very upset that hardly remembers her, how he doesn't even remember what she looks like.
"Are you looking for her?" Clara asked.
"I'm trying." She smiled.
"She could be anyone, right? You don't know who you're looking for. I mean, she could be me, for all you know." Clara hinted, even though he wouldn't get it.
"There's one thing I know about her. Just one thing. If I met her again, I would absolutely know.
I think that we were here, you know? I think that we were here together once. I'm sure I'll remember. Over here." He walk over to the tables by the wall. "Stupid Doctor. Amy and Rory. It was Amy and Rory." He smacks himself for thinking he was with Clara there, it was when River 'killed' him.
"What about your Tardis, hey? Have you found that yet?" Clara asked trying to lighten the mood.
"No. Somebody's moved it from London." Me did, "I'm still looking. But this diner. It wasn't always here, was it? It used to be on the other side of the hill." He commented, it was in Utah, why is it in Nevada now? He asked himself.
"Well, maybe someone will find your Tardis for you." When we leave, you'll see it, and you'll see the artwork Rigsy did.
Clara comes out from behind the counter and heads for the door with Elvis painted on it - Rest room, Guys Dolls. The Doctor starts playing his guitar tune again, and she pauses. "What Clara told you in the Cloisters,"
"I don't remember a single thing about it."
"You said memories become stories when we forget them. Maybe some of them become songs." She hinted, but he turns away and continues playing.
"That would be nice." He agreed.
"Yeah, it would be, wouldn't it?" Clara opens the door to reveal the new/old TARDIS console room, and goes inside. It dematerialises, leaving the Doctor standing alone in the Nevada desert. Alone except for the blue Police Telephone Box with artwork by Rigsy.
Me, is studying the Gallifreyian manual. "I don't think I've got the Chameleon circuit working. The outer shell might be stuck as an American Diner." Me told Clara.
"Awesome." Clara commented.
"Still no pulse?" Me asked her.
"Time isn't healing. I am still frozen." Clara said.
"You know what that means?" Clara nodded.
"It means my death is a fixed event. The universe depends on it happening." She replied.
"I'm sorry." Me told her.
"Why? Why does everybody think I am so scared? We all face the raven in the end. That is the deal. If I go back to Gallifrey, they can put me back, right? On Trap Street, the moment they took me out?" She asked.
"Of course." Me said.
Clara smiled, "Mind you, seeing as I'm not actually ageing, there's a tiny little bit of wiggle room, isn't there?"
"Wiggle room?" Me asked a smirk on her face.
"Wiggle room. Yeah, you know, wiggle room. We could, er, you know, stop off on the way." Clara sets coordinates, while she smiled.
"Where are we going?" Me asked.
"Gallifrey. Like I said, Gallifrey. The long way round." The American Diner whizzes through the Vortex, and the Police Box whizzes past them.
"Where all of time and space, anywhere and everywhere, where do you want to start?" Clara asked Me.
"Random." She replied. They look at each other, and Clara pulled the big lever, sending them who knows where.
