The Journey

I look at Serenity. And she stares at me. I pick my sword off of the table in the dining room where the Empress was talking to us. I turn to my dauntless little sister.

“Let’s go.” Says a voice that isn’t my own. I turn. The twins are standing in the doorway of the living room, staring us down. “We have to save our sisters.” The voice I now recognise belongs to Andrew.

“Right.” Serenity, Aaron, and I say at the same time. We walk out the door.

I smell the air, and hold back a gag. The demon was here, all right. Serenity actually throws up, then blushes because she almost up-chucked next to Aaron’s shoes. Her face was red anyway, and the only way I know she was blushing was because I’m her sister. I know everything about her.

Serenity recovers, and Andrew is laughing at how  weak her stomach is. I soon join in.

“It’s not my fault I have, like, no immune system.” Serenity retorted.

“Eh. I forget.”

Serenity scoffed.

“Anyway…” I carried out the a. “Time to go save the girls!!” 

I pumped my fist in the air and ran towards the Everlasting forest, my metal armor clanking together. The others followed suit.

Serenity started to go eastward, toward the village.

“Where are you going?” I ask her.

“To the Nothing. Where else?” Serenity inquiries.

“The village. The Nothing is to the east, where the moon rises. How do you not remember that from, like, grade school?”

“It’s ‘where the sun sets’, smart one.” Serenity retorts. “West.”

“East.”

“West.”

“East.”

“West.”

“East!”

“West!”

“West.” I say.

“East!” Serenity says. HAHA, fooled!

“Why, thank you for agreeing with me.” I say with a sly smirk. “Onward, to the Nothing!” 

I start to head eastward, towards the Everlasting Forest. I was satisfied at the other threes’ exasperated expressions. 

I stop and turn. “Well, come on! We need to save the girls!”

Serenity kept pace with me, saying, “You’re such a pain, you know that right?”

“Yup!” I exclaimed.

As we were walking through the Forest, Andrew spoke up.

“Wait a second,” we all look at Andrew. “How, in the name of bacon, do you two know where to go?” He asks.

I look to Serenity, and she looks back. 

We say at the same time, “Because we’ve been to that damned place before.” We say sullenly.

Tears well up in my eyes. I run off. Away from sight of the others.

I hear footsteps behind me. 

“Go away, Wren. I just want to be alone.” I say.

The rumbling voice that I hear does not belong to my sister. 

“Who? I’m your worst nightmare!” I turn and my eyes bug out of their sockets. I scramble away.

I’m running. This time for my sister. I’m driving him away from Serenity and the boys.

He can’t get to them. I have to run. For my friends. He won’t got to them. He won’t get to them. He won’t-

Suddenly I trip and fall into a pool of darkness. I turn toward the demon and scurry away from him. The only thing that I can see is the demon walking toward me. Regular demons shouldn’t be able to do this sort of thing.

“I am now the dog, so to speak, and you are the shoe!” He lunges at me, and my head hits something hard. I can no longer see the demon. Everything grows even darker than before.
