"Papa it's hot" I said hoping papa could make it cooler.

"I'm sorry sweetheart you're just going to have to bear with it it's a desert after all" my papa replied holding my hand as we kept walking down the street. There were bright pretty colors everywhere and people moving to and fro as papa took me into a shop off the main road.

"Alright sweetheart stay here while papa picks up a few things." Papa said leaving me to look around the shop while he found whatever it was he needed. I noticed a man with dark eyes and black hair he was looking at a statue of a bird-man holding a clipboard I also noticed a woman next to him with platinum blonde hair. The woman turned towards me and smiled before putting down the cat statue she was looking at and walking towards me as she got closer her hair changed color to a golden blonde and her eyes turned green like my kitty at home's eyes.

"Well hello little kitten, how are you?" The lady asked kneeling down to my height.

"I'm not supposed to talk to strangers." I replied causing the lady to laugh.

"Don't worry kitten, i'm not a stranger, but I have to admit you are very smart how old are you?" the lady asked.

"I'm four."I said holding up four fingers.

"A well how about you stay with me until your father comes back?" the lady asked taking my hand and leading me over to the statues and the dark eyed man.

"I wish you+ would stop using my disciples as conduits Ubesti" the man said without emotion.

"Oh come now jehuty it's not like you haven't used my disciples as conduits." The lady ubesti replied before picking me up so I could see the things on the table.

"Here always keep this close and you will never be alone" the lady said giving me a small statue of a black cat.

"Bast may I have my daughter back." my papa said once he approached us. The lady handed me to my papa before turning away and leaving to another part of the store.

" let's go if we do not leave we will be late." Papa said as we left the store.

"Papa where are we going?" I asked.

"Don't worry sweetheart when this is over we will both be free." Papa replied. We walked for awhile until we reached the edge of town where papa rented a jeep we traveled to the point where the sun was near setting when we came across a temple in ruins. Papa stopped the car and grabbed the bag of supplies he had bought at the store got out of the jeep and helped me out of the jeep. He set up a ritual circle of some sort once we got to the center of the temple.

"Stay in that circle no matter what alright sweetheart." Papa said while he poured salt in a circle around me.

"Wapasha I am in need of your assistance." My papa called out causing sand to condense into a blonde jackal.

" what is it you require Malik?" Wapasha asked.

" I am going to break the curse upon my family." Papa replied causing the jackal to shake his head

"Setekh is a powerful spirit Malik and he does not take being denied very well." Wapasha said.

"Will you help me or not?" Papa asked angrily.

"Of course I will help you as long as you realize the consequences should we fail." Wapasha replied.

"Then let's begin, I call upon the power of fate to change the path of my bloodline. I reject the contract between my ancestors and setekh, I reject my connection with setekh and the name given to me by setekh, I refute the claim on my daughter and her heirs by setekh." My father called out as he performed a ritual of sorts. Once he finished wapasha started growling as the atmosphere around us turned dark and angry. The sand turned red as it condensed into a humanoid shape that was constantly shifting in looks.

"You dare to reject me." The form angrily yelled at my father who nodded in return defiantly..

"Fine then I have no reason to keep you alive hopefully your daughter will have more sense than her fool of a father." The figure said as two new forms appeared by the figures side. Giant beasts with squarish ears a downward turned snout, a forked tail, and giant claws. The two beasts set upon my papa but were stopped at the edge of the circle when a shield of energy formed. The beasts continually attacked the shield causing cracks in the shield. My papa was smart papa would make things safe again right? The beasts broke through the shield one attacked wapasha while the other attacked my papa I screamed at the beasts to leave my papa alone but they wouldn't red water was everywhere finally the beasts stopped and turned into sand. I ran over to my papa ignoring his earlier orders when I reached papa I tried to wake him up but he wouldn't wake up.

"What a pity. Hopefully you are smarter than your father and realize your place as my disciple."the figure said before placing a hand on my shoulder.

"Time to sleep little one, don't worry we will meet again when you are of use to me." the figure said before everything went dark.
