Chapter 18
What Xelqua didn't realise was that around that same time the rest of the watchers in the council had also noticed their opponents' different grips and had also succeeded in making them lose hold of their blades, which meant that all five of the other opposing watchers had cast the same spell which made all of the watcher council members also lose their blades, which were all now sticking up in the concrete they landed in. On the admin side of things, it wasn't much better. They had also all noticed the different weaker grips and followed the same steps as everyone else with having their opponents' blades knocked out of their hands. Since admins weren't able to magic instead of the spell that they instead typed a command in that was unheard of, it moved the blade from the hand of the admins to a random location further away, they were lucky that it was their admin blades that they were using since most other items they would have just been able to destroy with the use of the clear command.
The battles were now focused on the specific traits of both sides, with the admin battles it was a mix of commands. It involved summoning simple items such as potions as well as teleporting to get the best attack possible. Another way that they could attack was by summoning lightning, but they needed to be careful where they sent it since there were many trees in the park nearby. Both sides used the same attacks and the council was just glad that the /kill command was only a server thing. Their opponents were still stronger though, it seemed that they were able to type faster than the council members meaning they were able to attack faster and they were starting to get the upper hand.
On the watcher side of things, it was magic, and in the air, it was much more obvious that their opponents had the upper hand. Their magic was much stronger since unlike the council members they didn't have as much player blood, which didn't hold any magical properties. Their fireballs were larger and faster, their shields seemed to be able to hold up against spells without them using as much effort. They also seemed to be able to use less of their stamina with every spell which would be bad normally but since Xelqua was much weaker at the moment he knew that he was last nowhere near as long as he normally could. His main focus was keeping a barrier in any place where Hycathin kept attacking because that was all that he was currently able to do.
After a few rounds of fireballs, Xelqua started to notice a pattern with how Hycathin attacked. It seemed he sent a rapid attack of seven fireballs before taking a few seconds to prepare for another attack, Xelqua thought that this would be a perfect time to send a counterattack. As Hycathin finished off his attack of seven fireballs Xelqua dropped his barrier and sent one back at him. It seemed however that Hycathin was prepared for an attack like this to happen and directed the fireball back at Xelqua, with even more power than before. Since Xelqua had taken his barrier down it meant that he was defenceless when the fireball hit him. Luckily there was a high building up nearby so his landing was much less hard than what it could have been if he landed on something further away because he would have had time to gain speed to make his landing harder.
Xelqua knew that he was struggling and as Hycathin approached, which was still a fair distance, he used his watcher vision to see how the other council members were doing, and it seemed that they were all struggling. He could see that the admins weren't able to hold potions since the second they had typed the command the opponents' had one ready that removed the item completely since they weren't on the same level as their admin swords. He could also see how their clothes were lightly burned showing that the lighting the attackers were summoning was only narrowly missing the council members. He could also just see but the way that they moved that their stamina was going down, he could also see that it was becoming harder for them to type.
For the watchers the fireballs they were producing only just had enough power to reach their intended targets, and their barriers seemed to be slowly gaining cracks as well. He could see how tired they were as they kept raising their hands to attack with more spells. He knew that they needed backup and he was wondering why the High Leader hadn't shown up as she did last time, but as Hycathin approached he didn't have enough time to dwell on it. In a tired voice, he said, "Astaria can you help..."
He didn't need to yell since he had no doubts that she was watching and since he had learnt of her ability to lip-read he knew that she would get his message. He saw as Hycathin approached but instead of attacking he looked beyond Xelqua where Astaria was now flying.
Astaria was currently very weak, she knew that. After the day of non-stop moving and fighting in the alternate reality, she was running on very little energy. Normally she would take a day or two to rest after using so much magic but when she had gotten the message from Xelqua she knew that she had to come help. When Lysabel told her to stay she was somewhat relieved that she had more time to let her energy levels get up before she entered the fight. She was looking after Dyneris, who Astaria helped fall asleep, while she was watching the battles. She said that she would wait until someone had called for backup but it was becoming harder for her to wait when she could see that they were struggling. She watched as an attack hit Xelqua and as he landed on the top of a nearby building. She saw as he said her name and asked her for help, she spread out her wings and flew out the window to help.
As she flew out she could see all eyes turned to her, she also knew that her energy was still very low so she decided that she needed to get more energy. She felt the magic in her core surround her as another pair of wings burst from her back, her hair started to float and a single halo surrounded it. The council members who could see Astaria were surprised that someone else other than the High Leader was able to access a higher level of magic, the ones who weren't in the medical wing were able to tell that this was the watcher who they referred to as the white-haired watcher and they were wondering why she was revealing herself to help them. Even though she had gotten more energy Astaria wouldn't be able to do any magic that was offensive while trying to protect everyone else at the same time. So instead she decided to do a powerful defence spell instead, as she cast it she focused on each of their enemies.
A lavender light came out of her hand and started to form a barrier, but the council noticed how it was different from what usual watcher barriers were. As it went out it sent it pushed back the opponents and continued pushing them until they were out of sight. The council didn't know the spell that she used but they could also tell that the attackers weren't actually dead, they were thankful though since they were most likely about to get defeated and that they now had more time to find another way to defeat them. Gryff, being able to fly, flew up to Astaria, who was facing the other way. Not knowing her name he just said, "We need you to come with us to the council room please,"
She simply replied, "Okay,"
Gryff honestly didn't expect her to agree to come since she hadn't shown any signs of wanting to talk to any of the council members with the exception of Xelqua. The admins teleported back to the council room as the watcher flew back, they were all tired and hurt but at least they were alive.
