Chapter 10

"You know, Seo Jiyeon was really admired by a lot of teachers in this university. The reason why no one could replace her was because Ms. Kim was certain that no one could have a voice as lovely as hers. Even Wendy here tried to audition once, but heck she got rejected." Irene sighed.

The youngest of the group was listening intently. "Jinjja? Should I step down for you, Wendy-unnie?" She asked, full of concern.

Wendy was taken a back, "Oh no no no." She laughed. "That was months ago. I was over it. Maybe it really wasn't for me, but for you." She smiled dearly.

"Then, one day, news and rumors were spreading that she left. Nobody knew the exact reason why, but of course, since Mark and the girl were close, we knew why." Irene explained.

Joy patted her arm and looked at her worriedly. "Unnie, we can't tell her everything. Mark might get mad. We don't want to see him mad."

Irene sighed and looked at Joy, "We can't just keep this forever, Sooyoung-ah. She's one of us, she has to know. Besides, she's Eunmi. Jaehyun's sister. We can trust her." She gave the rest a reassuring smile.

She turned her head towards Eunmi's direction. "Anyways, the boys will be late since Mark has some errands to do for the school council. Lucas was called by the principal. The 00 liners are having their physical education activity, and the maknaes, Chenle and Jisung, have their music class right now. The older ones are having a hard time escaping their classes, obviously." She sighed and shook her head. "Well anyways, back to what I was saying earlier..."

She leaned forward and gestured Eunmi to do the same. "Some of us were also dear to her, but we all knew the reason why she left. Well, the school administration also knew, but they decided to keep it to themselves."

Eunmi nodded. "What happened to her? Where did she go? Is she okay?"

Wendy stifled a laugh, "You don't need to worry about her, Eunmi-yah. She's fine now." She smiled.

"Oh and yeah, Wendy and Jiyeon were close." Irene added. She sighed and looked at Eunmi straight in the eye.

The eldest of the group was dead serious at this moment. "She died."

And Eunmi felt the colors of her face faded. She started to sweat cold, and her palms became sweaty. She shouldn't have asked why.

"W-What? Di-Died?" She gulped.

Irene slowly nodded. "She did. The day the school announced that she already left the university, that was the only moment we knew that she was hiding something." She sighed. "Her mother told us that it was cancer, that she's been fighting for 2 years already."

Eunmi looked down and felt sorry, "I-I'm sorry..."

"You don't need to be sorry. It's been months." Wendy smiled.

Eunmi was home and she still couldn't get over the fact that the former vocalist died.

And Mark never told her? Unbelievable.

She sighed and scanned the pictures she took when they were rehearsing. She smiled, looking at the picture which  looks like she was poking Mark's cheek.

"Maybe that's the reason why you didn't tell me? Because you miss her? You're friends after all.." She said, talking to the picture she's looking at. "Oh, who am I kidding? Of course you won't tell me... who am I to know about it anyway?" She sighed and turned her phone off.

She went downstairs and followed her brother that was once again cooking. She sat on the counter like what she always do and watched him cook.

Jaehyun turned around and was startled to see Eunmi seated on the counter. "Oh, what the hell! Since when have you bean sitting there?!" He asked, clutching his chest.

The younger laughed, "I got here just now." Once her brother calmed down, she looked at his face. "You should have seen the look on your face, you looked hilarious!"

Jaehyun rolled his eyes, "Whatever makes you sleep at night, dear sis." He continued cooking and turned his head towards his sister. "Why are you here anyways? Shouldn't you be in your room doing homeworks?"

"I don't have any. Anyways, I'm here to ask you something, oppa. If you don't mind..." She sighed.

"Yeah? What is it?" Jaehyun asked.

"Do you happen to know who Seo Jiyeon is?"

Jaehyun stopped what he was doing and looked at his sister. "Why'd you ask?"

"Mark told me she used to be the female vocalist, but then she left. Then, according to the girls, she... sh-she—"

"Died." Jaehyun finished her sentence. "She died." She looked at Eunmi straight in the eye.

The younger slowly nodded, "Y-Yeah..."

"Why do you want to know anyway?" Jaehyun asked.

"Mark told me before that people used to ship him and J-Jiyeon..." She looked down.

Jaehyun chuckled, "What, are you jealous of her?"

Eunmi glared at him, "What the heck are you even saying?! I just want to know who she is—"

"She used to be Mark's girlfriend. Which explains why he is grumpy at times. She didn't tell him that she was sick. We just found out the day she died." Jaehyun looked away.

Eunmi felt like something was twisting her gut which is giving her a hard time breathing. She took time to process everything that she knew this day.

She felt cold water being splashed to her. She looked down, not feeling anything but hurt?

"Are you okay?" Jaehyun asked and patted her shoulder. "Eunmi-yah." She didn't gave Jaehyun a response. The older sighed. "Hey, are you crying?"

Eunmi wiped her eyes and that was the moment she noticed that she was crying. "H-Huh? O-Oh, what? Why am I-I crying? Haha... this is lame..." She sniffed.

Her brother sighed, "Hey, don't cry... Mark won't like it..."

"He... H-He... Mark... Mark still loves her, r-right?" She asked.

Jaehyun slowly shook his head, "Not anymore, to my knowledge."

She chuckled bitterly, "Oh come on, oppa. Be honest!" She tried to be cheerful, but no matter how hard she try, it still sounded fake and broken. Well, she tried.

Jaehyun shook his head, "No. Why do you think that I don't want you near him?"

Eunmi looked at her brother, who was giving her a thin smile.

"H-Huh?" She asked.

The older ruffled her hair, "You'll find it out yourself."

The next morning, Lucas was surprised to see Eunmi's chair next to hers.

"Oh, Eunmi? Shouldn't you be seated in between Mark and Yeri?" Lucas asked the girl who was busy with her phone.

"Oh hey Lucas." She greeted. "No, I asked our adviser if she could transfer me to another seat since my old seat was near the chalkboard, I can't stand getting allergy attacks every night." She timidly smiled.

"That sucks." Lucas shrugged and seated beside her. "Anyways, you better stop talking to me." He said worriedly.

"What are you talking about?" Eunmi asked. "That's rude." She said, as if she was hurt, although she wasn't really.

"I don't wanna die yet." Lucas pleaded her. "So please... uh, just play on your phone, if you want... j-just... please..."

"Lucas, what the heck are you talking about?" Eunmi asked.

"Eunmi, if looks could kill... Mark already killed me." Lucas whispered.

"What?" Eunmi looked at Mark's direction. He was looking at them, and his face was void of any emotions. The way how Eunmi and him first met, at the cafeteria, and at the garden.

Mark was the first one to look away, and continued what he was writing in his notebook.

Eunmi turned to Lucas, "Don't mind that jerk." She scoffed.

"Wow, he's a jerk now?" Lucas smirked.

"Yah!" She hit his arm and the latter just laughed, knowing that he'd probably die because of Mark later.

Mark, on the other hand, stood from his seat and dragged Eunmi out of the room. Lucas just watched in shock as the two disappeared from his sight.

"Why are you doing this?!" Mark asked once they were alone in the locker room.

"Me?! What am I doing?! What did I ever do to you?!" She asked, gritting her teeth.

"Why did you switched your place?! Why didn't you tell me?! Why are you avoiding me?!" He asked.

"Me? When did I ever avoid you?!" She asked. "Why don't you ask your ego why?!" She looked down.

"Right, I don't have the right to know anything because I'm just new here and who am I to ask?" She scoffed. "Of course, I don't have the right to say anything because I don't know what had happened before, right?" She looked at Mark who was looking at her.

"Well screw you and your antics, Lee!" She said, not giving a damn if someone hears her. "I've been trying hard to avoid you but heck, every time I do, your the one who's getting near me."

"I told myself to stay away from you if you'll be the one who'll say so, and I did. So what's your problem now?!" She shouted.

Mark was taken aback. Everything she said was right. He couldn't even say something.

"Now what, even talking to Lucas, who is my friend, is bad? Why? Who are you?" She asked, challenging him.

Mark couldn't say anything and just looked away.

"Just tell me if you couldn't move on from Jiyeon! Don't include me in your rage! Because I will understand you, and I will try to understand you and don't ask me why, because I, myself don't even know the reason why!" She looked down.

Mark looked at her and raised a brow, "What's with Jiyeon?!"

She scoffed, "Don't play games with me, Lee. She's your girlfriend, and even if you won't tell me... I would know..." She looked down.

"I'm not stupid, Mark." Her voice started to soften.

Mark could feel his temper go away when he heard the girl in front of him sniffed.  "Why are you crying?" He asked cautiously.

"You don't need to know why." She answered coldly.

She wiped her tears and left the room, not planning to attend classes this morning.

Mark was left inside the room dumbfounded.
