Chapter 2: Lessons

Sorry this is late...

I've had a really full on few weeks and I'm exhausted, so apologise if this isn't the best...

On the bright side, I'm on term holidays now so expect a few more updates...

I'm really bad at keeping to schedules aren't I?

Mitch's POV

I sighed as I followed Jerome into the castle and towards the library. I was starving, but I knew we'd probably better go check what was going on.

As we turned the corner, we saw a familiar face coming out of their room.

"Hey guys..." Ty said, giving a tired smile "Have you seen Adam?"

I shook my head "No, but judging from the flashing lights outside, I'm gonna guess he's practicing with Seto again..."

Ty gave a nod of understanding "Ah, makes sense..."

"Yeah, we're going to check on them now. Care to join us?" Jerome asked, twirling Betty in his hand.

Ty just shrugged and nodded "Sure. I just hope he doesn't teleport me into the desert like last time..." He said, causing the three of us to laugh slightly as we continued to walk to the library, this time with Ty following.

See, sometime after the whole episode with Skybrine, maybe about a month later? We began to realise that Adam, Ty and Jason's powers hadn't all vanished along with their hybrid get looks.

We realised this when Adam accidentally lit his room on fire and teleported into my room when I was taking a nap.

Notch that was terrifying....

As we walked towards the library, several flashes of light could be seen underneath the door, until there was a loud BANG and a bright flash of yellow light from under the door, making the door shake violently.

My eyes widened and I swore as the three of us drew our weapons and ran to the door. I grabbed the handle and pulled the door open, causing a sickly yellow smoke to pool out of the library.

I coughed and waved my hand in front of my face as I walked further into the library "Adam? Seto? You guys alright?!" I called out as the smoke slowly began to sink to the ground, curling around our legs.

For a few moments, there was no reply, until we could hear a groan coming from one aisle.

We cautiously walked into the aisle the groan came from. It was pretty easy to tell that this was where the explosion had come from, several shelves of books had fallen to the floor, leaving large piles of books scattered around the aisle, pages from different books floated down and long the aisle, several were even on fire. The remains of the table that used to stand in the middle of the aisle was scattered as little fragments of wood along the aisle.

"Adam? Seto?" Ty called out with a worried look on his face "You here?"

The only reply was another groan, this time, coming from the nearest pile of books, which was moving slightly.

My eyes widened and I sheathed my sword as I rushed over to the pile, quickly pulling books off the top and tossing them behind me until I pulled away one large green book to revel Seto's face.

I sighed with relief as Jerome came over and helped me pull several more books off him before helping me pull Seto up with a grunt.

"You ok?" Jerome asked, still holding Seto's arm as he leaned on me with one hand and grasping Betty in the other.

"I think so..." Seto muttered, rubbing his head to dull the pain he no doubt felt.

"Where's Adam?" Ty asked with a frown, sheathing his sword "Is he here? What happened?"

"Adam f**ked up, that's what happened..." Seto said shaking his head in annoyance "I told him that when he was pronouncing the spell, not to say the 'h' at the end... It's 'ra' not 'rah...'"

I opened my mouth to reply when someone beat me to it.

"Well they sound the same! So sorry if I don't get it right the first time!" Adam's voice groaned in reply from under another pile of books. The pile shifting to reveal Adam's head poking out the top. "Now can someone please help me out? Everything's spinning and I think I'm gonna hurl..."

Ty sighed and walked over to Adam, digging him out of the pile and helping him up.

"We've been going over this spell for the past hour!" Seto moaned.

Adam sighed, rubbing the back of his head and shaking it slightly to clear his mind "I'm trying, it's just... hard to get the hang of..."

Seto sighed "We'll continue this tomorrow... It's getting late and I'm hungry and tired. Plus, I need to fix the library..."

Adam just gave a small nod "Alright, do you want me to-"

"No! Don't worry about it!" Seto said quickly, pushing himself off me and stood straight. "I can do that..."

Sky opened his mouth to say something but instead, he sighed and nodded "Alright..." He said, turning and walking out of the library.

Seto sighed once he was gone "I hate to do that to him... But after what just happened, there no telling what could have happened..." He said before raising his hands and murmuring under his breath, his eyes and hands glowing a bright purple.

All at once, the rubble around us seemed to rise, floating over to its original places, fixing itself as it flew across the aisle, burnt pages returned to their original state before flying into books the gently placed themselves on the now fixed shelves. The wood from the table rose up and floated to the centre of the room before joining with other bits of wood to form the table.

Soon, the aisle was as it should be, the only marks that revealed the explosion had ever occurred was the blackened marks on the floor, and even those were faint...

Ty sighed "I'm gonna go to dinner now, may try and comfort Sky if I see him." He said, turning and leaving.

Seto just nodded before going over to one shelf and pulling out one of his grandfather's journal's and placing it on the table in the aisle. (Reminder, some of the journals are good, most are bad, but these are the good ones...)

He then summoned a small purple quill and proceeded to write in the book, editing different pages slightly.

"Seto, what are you doing?" Jerome asked with a confused look on his face.

"Editing." He said simply, continuing to write. "This is the book on hybrids I showed you a while ago, I know a lot more about them now... So I'm editing it for future sorcerer's who need answers...

"I don't get it..." I muttered "I mean, when Adam was... Different, his powers were fine, why are they acting up now all of a sudden?" I asked, trying to avoid the subject of Skybrine.

Seto seemed to pause for a moment, thinking. He then put the quill down next to the book and leaned back on his chair "I've thought about that... And I've come to a few small conclusions."

"You have?" Jerome asked "What are they?"

"Well... For one thing, his powers are a lot like mine, their connected to his emotions, the stronger he feels about something, the stronger his magic, which is quite dangerous considering how passionate he is about a lot of things..."

"I guess..." I sighed "But that still doesn't explain why he has no control over them, that just explains why his magic is so powerful..."

"I know..." Seto said, looking at the table, his fingers tracing the marks in the old wood "My only other guess is that Sky is resisting the magic..."

"Resisting?" I asked, frowning "What do you mean by resisting?"

"Well... Ok, let me ask you something... Who gave Adam his powers?"

"Herobrine." Jerome and I said immediately.

"Exactly, and Herobrine is the God of the Nether, he is the symbol of evil, his powers cause death and destruction... And since Adam's powers come from Herobrine, his powers are the same..."

"Yeah, so?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at the sorcerer.

"So, Adam doesn't want to use those powers like that, thus he's resisting them. Notch said the potion that turned him into a brine, was meant to give him the powers and personality... And like it or not, magic is linked to the original owner and their personality. When Adam was Skybrine, he was using his powers for death and destruction, like their meant to be used, so they were fine. And when we freed Adam and he fought Herobrine, he was angry and wanted to kill Herobrine for revenge, so his powers were still fine..."

"Oh, I get it..." Jerome said, nodding "So now that everything's back to normal and Adam's not using his powers the way they're meant to be used, they're going out of control..."

"And the longer Adam doesn't use them like that, the worse they'll get." I finished.

Seto nodded "Exactly, it's the only logical thing I can think of at the moment." He said grimly.

"So what can we do?" Jerome asked

Seto just sighed "That's the thing, I just don't know... The best I can do for the moment is teach Adam how to somewhat control as best as he can..."

I looked at Seto, it was pretty clear to see that Seto didn't think it would do much, judging by his expression, frankly, looking at him closely, he was exhausted...

"We should get to dinner..." I sighed "We've all had a long day and need rest..."

Seto nodded "That I can agree on..." He said quietly.

Jerome just smiled "Yeah, I've got a raw fish with my name on it!" He said, heading towards the hallway to the dinning room.

Seto closed the book he was writing in and left it on the table "I'll come back to it later..." He said, giving me a small smile before following Jerome.

I smiled back at Seto and walked with him, before running up to Jerome, who was further ahead.

But one thought kept coming back to mind as I walked...

'What will happen when Adam looses control?'
